VAR STORM REF IN CHARGE OF CELTS

DAVID DICKINSON will be the man in charge of Celtic’s Premiership encounter against Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday.

The match official will hope he avoids any controversy in the High Noon showdown following a VAR storm in his previous game involving Brendan Rodgers’ side in the 3-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park in October.

Dickinson missed a stonewall penalty-kick for the champions after Daizen Maeda had been flattened by Stephen O’Donnell just after the half-hour mark with the visitors leading 1-0 through a Luke McCowan strike.

CRASH-LANDING…Daizen Maeda is sent sprawling by Stephen O’Donnell with keeper Aston Oxborough looking on. Celtic were wrongly denied a penalty-kick on this occasion.

The five-man review panel scrutinised the incident and the majority stated the Hoops had been denied a spot-kick.

Alan Muir was the official on VAR duty that afternoon and, coincidentally, he was the man at the technical screens for Celtic’s Premier Sports League Cup Final success at Hampden on Sunday with the beaten Ibrox side unhappy over an extra-time incident.

Dickinson was also called to his touchline monitor by his assistant late in the Fir Park game to upgrade a yellow card to red for Well defender Liam Gordon who had decked Adam Idah with a dangerous challenge.

Gavin Duncan will be on VAR duties during the Hoops’ game on Tayside and the touchline assistants will be Calum Spence and Craig Ferguson.
