VAR’s crucial role in tight league and cup race

123

The Premier League in England will today vote on a Wolves proposal to ditch Video Assisted Referees.  Wolves endured several poor VAR decisions in the season just ended which has raised their dander.  Celtic suffered from terrible VAR decisions, especially when it was new in 2022.  Those early experiences anchored some of our thinking.

Without VAR, Newco would have taken the lead against Celtic at Ibrox in September, when the referee missed foul on Lagerbielke.  Without VAR, on our next visit to Ibrox in April, Newco would have scored twice in 10 minutes to level the game, when the referee overlooked a foul on Iwata.  Without VAR, Newco would have taken a 74th minute lead in the Scottish Cup Final, when the referee missed a foul on Joe Hart.

You can rightly contest the VAR decision against Iwata at Tynecastle, but in a tight league race and a tight cup final, VAR played a crucial role on reaching the correct outcome.

There can be no going back to instant and unaccountable decisions.  VAR must be maintained, with improved technology deployed as soon as possible.

We don’t win the double without VAR. Simples.

All the big games it was used at times when refs ego’s clashed and they couldn’t get their stories right

The sfa mandate to give the huns the title was ruined when their form fell off a cliff.

The games this season have all been tight as the huns get everything. Every little niggling wee foul they gain from while we tire and weaken from injustices right across the games.

Without var the thug lumdstrum is still on the park to maim again. Think about that.

People talk about Hatate being poor in the run in, myself included, everyone of those games he took a sore one early doors and nothing was done, no wonder his went went down in all these games. Must be very disheartening, to get hit and you can’t hit back.

    Go get Miovski. Csc

Chuffed for wee Johnny. Good appointment Brendan. He’s a complete professional, like Darren O dea. They both join McManus, Big JK. They are all Celtic men. They live and breath the club like the rest of us.

Brendan building for a long term future by the looks.

Great news, wonder if there will be a future roll for Broony once he realises what he wants to do.

VAR works it’s the fans that run it that aren’t up to it. Born biased like the rest of us, only we don’t get to make decisions on a 60m pound kitty like they do.

Beam it to a private company and take away all ambiguity.

Tom- I posted when VAR was introduced, first thing is to stop the clock, then instead of the referee standing about like a spare,go straight to TV monitor, would speed it up.

  6. EPL votes to retain VAR.

You cannot uninvent technology, but you can and must improve it.

Douglas Ross, stabs an ill colleague in the back to run for Parliament, shouldn’t be surprised, hope the guy employs an HR firm to sort them out.

For those thinking of or already on the geneaology sites, today till 11th june Ancestry has free access to the miitary records.

These are usually difficult to get access to , so it is worthwhile getting the free pass for a few days.

Lots of Irish National records from the civil war online today.

    That was it, cheers.

Brendan’s one time assistant Chris Davies has left Ange and Tottenham to take up the manager’s job at Birmingham City. He succeeds Tony (take it on the chin) Mowbray.

Colour me surprised. Still they have been promised a new improved version. I remember when they said the same thing about Daz, how did that work out? Another whitewash.

They did agree to introduce in game VAR announcements. Canny wait till the SPL does likewise….

Do we need a moderator anymore ?

Imo, this blogs strength was its diversity and varied discussion topics. We discussed football and beyond and that is what differeniated CQN from many others.

In purely Celtic topics there are many slicker forums.

It is encouraging to see you introduce some diversity in topic this afternoon.

  19. Not sure, reading some of the VAR replies,if people on here watch any other football.VAR has been roundly condemned by most pundits, analysis’s in England. So many shocking decisions, every week.Every week on MOTD,they highlight the worst of them. Most contentious,as we know, the hand ball rule.An utter farce.Left to “Someone’s” discretion.Should never happen.Has to be any hand ball,no matter,is a penalty. No ifs or buts then.Only way. They have taken away so many goals from the paying fans for the sake of a couple millimeters, add some back with more penalties.

Celtic are locked in negotiations with Sparta Prague for goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen.

Peter Vindahl Jensen…just saw his stats, 129 appearances no goals. Why would we want to sign him?

Bada : This was what prompted my post to which you replied on the last thread.

    Chris Mepham – Bournemouth CB

6’4″ CB from Bournemouth but can also play right back and is a Wales international.

Mark Travers wedding was in Adare Manor at the weekend and all the Bournemouth lads played golf on Saturday. Young lad I know was caddying for Mepham who dropped out at the 12th hole for a Zoom meeting with Brendan Rodgers before returning for the last couple of holes.

Type of CB we could be doing with to play alongside CCV.

This beats any taxi driver transfer speculation

  23. garygillespieshamstring on

    Bada 😂

I’m afraid the inside information is not mine.

I got it from a guy who got it from another guy who probably heard it from a taxi driver.
