Victim blaming media misreport police, Kent “pushed” Brown and Lennon ethnicity

115

This week has been a rerun of the aftermath of the 2016 Scottish Cup Final, when Hibernian humiliated Newco, resulting in a media narrative against them being prepared and distributed to the masses.

The Herald yesterday ran the line “Police have consulted prosecutors about Scott Brown’s behaviour during Sunday’s Old Firm game.”  This bears no relation to what happened and lacks credibility to anyone who witnesses key events at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Police asked prosecutors to review three items:

1. The melee involving around 15 players at the end of the game.
2. Ryan Kent’s punch on Scott Brown.
3. Alfredo Morelos elbow on Scott Brown.

Watch the melee again.  What police officer in their right mind would look at 15 players grabbing, dragging each other to the ground and ripping clothes, as Scott Brown looked with his hands by his side, then limit comment to Scott for smiling at grown adults?

You can make your own mind up why the newspaper report contained no mention of Kent or Morelos assaults being reported by police, that information was not selected for you to read about.

Instead, the headline screamed, “Police consult prosecutors over Celtic captain Scott Brown’s ‘goading’ at Old Firm (sic.) match”.  Inaccurate, misleading and selective.

In the greatest act of mitigation in history, the same article asserts that Scott Brown was “pushed to the ground by Ryan Kent”.  Pushed.  To.  The.  Ground.  Pushed!  Honestly!

Everyone knows this is factually inaccurate.  Scott Brown was not pushed by Ryan Kent.  Scott Brown was punched by Ryan Kent.  This is as clear a case of victim blaming as I have read.  Deliberately misreport the assault while running a headline blaming the victim for goading.

The actual police quote in the article read, “The actions of the players involved are for the relevant sporting authorities to address.”  This happened and three players will serve suspensions.  No Celtic player had a case to answer.

Monday’s edition of the same newspaper took a more sinister tone, suggesting Celtic’s ideal managerial candidate “may as well have described Neil Lennon right down to his ginger hair.”

What does “ginger hair” mean in this context if not Neil’s Irish Catholic ethnicity?

Be clear: Celtic could not care less about the ethnicity of any of their staff.  Celtic fans come from all walks of life across Scotland and beyond.  It is not a club supported exclusively by one community; its success is a consequence of welcoming all.  We even have some who once ‘walked’ in July as season ticket holders.

In the years after Rangers liquidation, these pages were full of comments hoping that we never play Newco, not for the football, which we can enjoy, but because of the metaphoric rubbish that is left on our doorstep.

They have a business model which their chairman made clear is dependent on stopping Celtic.  Failure in this respect threatens their viability and this makes Celtic and our players vulnerable when they punch, elbow or lash out through media briefings.

Scott Brown was not pushed he was punched.  He was not reported by police, a group of at least 15 players were reported, with only two individuals named, neither of whom was Scott.  This attempt to intimidate him will fail.

He will lead us to nine-in-a-row next season, but unfortunately, you are going to read more of the same, as the media briefings from Ibrox become ever shriller.

  1. Maybe I am mistaken, but I have looked at some of the Willie Vass photos from Sunday, and Im almost sure that some Hun Banners were covering Advertising signs at the rear of their section , if so, why were these Banners not removed by stewards and the Owners ejected from Celtic Park, just like what happened at Dens Park ?

  3. What has been lost over the past 60 years — quite a lot by recent events.

I don’t think BP would have had the career he had in the current climate.

Pressure from his local environment would be immense.

  4. Shove is the new punch …

The BBC are just as guilty as the GH / ET combine.

You get the impression that they seem to be working to some sort of agenda.

Quite incredible that BBC Scotland have allowed their standards to fall that low.

And that nobody seems to care.

Farts his drumroll opinion and his advertisers love it.i say ignore.and as for any attack on our club, whits knew?.- our success is continually against that wall of kack..

  6. I think all players do deserve a chance, therefore not overly against Compper getting a run-out.

However it does beg the question… what on earth does Jozo have to do to get a game.

I saw that as well and took some poor quality snaps. I haven’t seen it on the Willie Vass site but it could be there.

The banner was a simple one, maroon with a large winged Parachute Regiment crest. Nothing else on it, no words, no Rangers crest, no Loyal this or True Blue that.

The question is, what does it have to do with football? (I’ll answer that – nothing).

It was clearly intended to offend. It could have incited a reaction. I’m not easily offended, but in the context of recent events with the Bloody Sunday inquiry, this particular banner, being brandished at Celtic Park, was offensive to me.

I’ve emailed the Celtic SLO to ask why the stewards did nothing about it. As Phil would say – if I receive a response, I will publish it here.

  8. Catch 22 for Celtic re bias reporting in print and on the airwaves. They crave attention which in turn gets them sales and listeners, that’s the main purpose of the rants. If we, Celtic, go all out against them it gives them even more print and airtime. Best thing is to make a statement and leave them in no doubt they are no longer welcome at the home of the Champions, por cierto

  9. AT – HH ma mhan. I do ignore them and can see right thru them. Unfortunately they have a huge following of sheep who hear without listening and this plants unconscious seeds that we are the bad guys. I even know good Celtic fans that regurgitate their nonsense. The media is more powerful than we give it credit for.

Ruggyman – good question. Is Jozo fit? And comperr… Has he even been given a chance? I’d love it if Lenny unearthed a diamond… He certainly looks big and powerful enough…

And oh… After me commenting about scrolling by some posters… I’ve read every comment on the last 2 threads ??

As their sales are going down so much whilst adopting that strategy,I would have thought there must be another reason ie They don`t like Celtic very much.

Spot on. As I said I seen it too and the small group waving it were of the bitter bitter variety. It was looking out of them. I would not liked to have bumped into them in a dark alley with a Celtic top on…

  13. Good afternoon, friends.

A few sources suggesting that Compper may start tonight. Let’s be fair here. I’ve never seen Marvin play and always suspected it might be a ‘personal’ issue with Brendan that curtailed his career. Let’s start afresh tonight and judge him after he’s played a few games.

Great if Weah and Burke are starting, that’s nearly Olympic pace right there, scary for any defenders.

Compper – who knows what has gone on there but if he’s got a four-leafed clover on his breast (I doubt we’ll be in the Hoops) he gets my support.

Latest Phil article redolent with innuendo. Who is the ‘business type’ he refers to, and are there lawsuits in the wind?

  17. Go tell the Spartim on

I tend to take a lot of Pilger’s stuff as one side of the coin but im 100% with him on his assertion that the BBC is the biggest propaganda machine in the world.

Anything they do in their BBC Scotland guise is fuelled by their anti-irish/anti-catholic mind set, a thoroughly repulsive institution.

No great surprise that the resident bigots at Talksport have joined in the orchestrated campaign to turn Sunday’s victory into the latest version of the “Shame Game” with this time Scott Brown in the frame ahead of Neil Lennon. Only thing missing is wee Eck Salmond, now broadcasting from the old USSR. What should concern us is that Talksport is wholly owned by News Corporation, Rupert Murdoch’s media giant, a situation which should never have been allowed to happen, but one which sees Celtic attacked simultaneously in print, on the airwaves and on television. Not to mention the poison on social media. Let us send a message out to one of them, say the Daily Record, that you are no longer welcome at Celtic Park, and we do not believe you will be around long enough ever to be. Pour encourager les autres. N’est-ce pas?

Just read your post from yesterday.

Hope you are OK and keep posting.

Said a wee prayer for you too!

  21. Another hurting hun……Graham spiers wants Celtic and the authorities to take a look at the scene when hundreds from that gathering known as the GB spilt onto the pitch resulting in a steward being injured…..dangerous and chaotic………Graham “used” to have a season ticket for ibrox at one stage only for the sectarian singing to upset…….nothing to do wi his team being shitel

  22. The curious case of Jozo Simounovic

I am stead fast in thinking there is a player there. In fact on his last run-out, against Valencia over in Spain, he was arguably m.o.t.m

His lack of inclusion since may have been down to injury.

But I tell you what… when he jumped 20m in the air at the weekend, he certainly didn’t look injured to me

  23. My friends in Celtic,

We should not have given the huns any tickets. This is not hindsight.

We should refuse tickets for Greyskull. Announce it now, in the interests of safety and common sense.

  24. Having looked at it again ( and again, and again etc), I am beginning to think that kent`s action was neither a shove nor a punch but certainly much closer to being the latter.I was wondering what term Bankiebhoy et al might use for this admixture of `punch` and `shove`.

Also, having looked at this one as well, Morelos might not actually have made contact ( owing to Broonie`s ability to ride an elbow :-)) ).

The above is based on my genuine perception of the clips I have watched. They do not alter my opinion that a Red was the obvious penalty for each of the Sevco players .Likewise, my view does not alter my opinion that the MSSM treatment of Scott Brown is disgraceful and requires a strong reponse from Celtic.

    JJ

  25. HJ

I would imagine that Sevco V Hearts is also a sell out now. It might not have been had the MSSM been truthful about Sunday`s game and the ensuing Red Cards. The persecution complex now strongly felt ( I am guessing) by the Huns will ensure that Full House and a somewhat hostile atmosphere.

Paranoid and rebellious. Does that ring any bells?

  26. Hail Hail all you merry CQNers

Philboy I am very touched by your earlier post 16:40 I think. Thank you very much.

I must say I am looking forward to the match tonight and hope that Neil impresses on his selection tonight that the never say die efforts of the last few weeks require the team to bring home the 3 points tonight.

I had some fun yesterday scrolling back and forward watching and re-watching excerpts from the game and the various posted You Tube clips of Bristol Bar Buffoons and Tommy Robinson spokesperson.

Anyway …Thanks again Philboy and Hail Hail to Happy Tims everywhere.
