There was a mention, yesterday I think, at the High Court that the huns couldn’t get a consumer credit licence because of one of the directors (and this affected them being able to issue or use credit card facilities).

    Was anything made of that?

Not yet, but I’ll wager that “that” is what Findlay will “come back to”

    Spot on.

    Its culture isnt it….Kardashian culture.

If you tell modern day kids about growing up poor in grey industrial Glasgow, they just laugh, dont get it.

I dont blame them, however its a sign of a shifting generational flux.

Socialist ideology had the heart ripped out of it through Thatcherism…the solution to working class solidarity, was to destroy industry.

    Its all gone now.

What has replaced it….is the bourgeois culture of shiny things, with no questions asked.

    Sad.

Not really. They are living in the past.

The reality is that Brexit isn’t going to advance socialism at all. It’s just a pipe dream to think that it is. Comforting but wrong.

Your parents are far from unusual.

At practically any university/college,the leanings are generally socially democratic.

As life progresses, that idealism is replaced by reality and pragmatism. If you’re struggling to pay bills for a new home and family,a tax cut,for example, sounds just the job!

I think this is the problem Labour created,to be honest. They once said to those in need, with little but a vote to their name

Vote for us,we will listen,we will force change. We will empower you, give you access to the housing, education, employment that has been denied you for so long

    Which they did.

And then they realised that doing so successfully meant there were fewer people for whom that message of hope resonated-because of their success!

I could go on,but you see my point. Labour no longer speaks to their core voter because Labour policies made those core voters aspirational.

Heyho, one thing for sure-no opposition to the tories will benefit damn few who have deserted Labour.

Now that was very funny! And apt.

However, on 5th May 2017 12:56 pm I disagree; it’s not living in the past but trying to hold onto traditional values. Whilst you can argue that leaving the EU may not advance Socialism, leaving it will certainly oppose the advancement globalization one the capitalism of the EU cabals.

IMHO you don’t give up the values you have; you fight from within and try to change. Sadly the left-wing militants were all kicked out of the Labour Party in the ’80’s and look at what we are left with now!

Such things will go on regardless. And the weakening of one cabal will be matched by the strengthening of another. There’s nothing progressive about Brexit. It has set the mood music for the foreseeable future and it’s not going to be nice. That’s the hard reality. Theorising about international cabals is just indulgence.

BMCUWP, you said “I could go on,but you see my point. Labour no longer speaks to their core voter because Labour policies made those core voters aspirational.”

No they didn’t; Thatcherism made people selfish and greedy and the “New Labour” move to the right embraced that greed and philosophy to get elected.

The electorate was so disillusioned when Blair came to power that I would argue they would still have won (maybe not as handsomely) with a proper socialist mandate rather than the new right policies they rode to power on.

IMHO it has all been greed and selfishness since 1979.
