Will all the Tory gains mean that the SNP will increasingly revert to the Tartan Torres to outdo the May Tories.

Particularly pertinent outside the central belt.

I’ve got a mental picture of the court usher marching up and down the well of the court twirling the mace above his head as that was said.

Probably didn’t happen like that right enough.

There seems to be a groundswell against Ernie Lynch being allowed to express his opinions on here, has been for a long time.

Gets attacked as a unionist, living in Croydon, etc etc. His every post is hit with vitriol.

This is not, frankly, the way we were brought up to behave. No-one should be bullied like this-and I appreciate that he is more than capable of answering back!-simply for presenting an opposite view to the prevailing narrative.

In fairness,I feel the same way about MACJAY and PHILVISRETURNS. I might not agree with them, but a respectful deconstruct of their arguments is better than a f off ya unionist or fascist.

Having said that,Ernie did once defend ABBA in a reply to me.

That was just one step to far. I think someone hacked his account.

    Bliddy hope so!

  6. Feck it….who wants to join The New Socialist Celtic Party ( NSCP)….I’m looking for somebody intelligent, Catholic or Proddy, Jew, Arab, Hindu…etc it doesn’t matter…but you MUST be a Celtic supporter……to be “The Leader Aff” of this innovative Party, that will stamp down on all that is Hunism, and ensure that The Celtic supporting Family will be well rid of racists/bigots…and that Celtic players ( and staff) can go about their place of work without fear of being ” Assaulted, Cheated, Abused ( Racially or otherwise) by simply ensuring that ALL Huns know their place and behave themselves into the bargain ( That may prove to Mission Impossible ?)……

Perhaps if the SNP hadn’t joined forces with the Tories to bring down the Callaghan Government it could have happened here.

There again we didn’t mind the economic side of Thatcher, did we?

  8. Davidopoulos on 5th May 2017 12:35 pm

What I want to know is…

If the turnout is so low, why does it take so long to count the votes. I mean, surely in Suffolk it doesn’t take that long to count the 47 valid ballot papers?

(all others being spoiled because apparently the 6th finger gets in the way when you have to use those little pencils)

    ————————————————————

Well on radio this morning, it was mentioned that in the past counting would have begun as soon as all voting was completed last night. However, that meant paying people overtime and because of “austerity” there was no money for overtime payments and so counting would only begin today when people turned up for their regular day of work.

    I shit you not.

Taking your political argument that independence is the only alternative to a Tory future then conversely you have to accept that if you do not believe financial devastation is a road to go then in Scotland you have no option but vote Tory. When shettleston goes blue I really wonder where it will all end!

    LMCBHOY,

I would NEVER vote Tory EVER…….unless Theresa offered me an EBT and/or DOS.

Anyway, I am simply saying that there now is the strong possibility that with Tories gaining seats in places like Shettleston etc in local Elections….this could play right into the lap of wee Nicola….I can only IMAGINE that many Scots will be appalled at the rise of the Tories/UKIP in Scotland and will vote accordingly at the General Election …..I really Dunno ?

  12. Problem today is simple. Society, for selfish reasons, is so shallow. Sizzle without the steak!!Not helped of course by a corrupt media who , at every turn, slag and write off Jeremy Corbyn. If you actually listen to what the man says, it makes so much sense. But alas, our shallow society want a grinning moron like Blair. Looks good on telly is what matters.

Meant to post this wee story yesterday when the topic was fish suppers.

About a year ago I managed to get clearance from compliance officers to enable me to land some fish to the charity of my choice. The only food bank I had heard of was at Drumchapel.Unfortunately when I tried to contact them I was told they had been closed down. However, they gave me the number for a guy in the East end of Glasgow.I called him up and he was delighted to recieve the fish.I told him that I would deliver 500kgs of Haddock to our factory in Uddingston the following morning and that he only had to turn up,collect the fish and distribute it at his own discretion.

Tho following morning our manager calls and say,s there’s a wee guy here to collect fish.Yes,says I give him all the fish. But he,s only got a Renault Clio he say,s.!! Ended up he took 10kgs for himself and the rest went to market.

Sometimes you can’t even give it away!

More importantly,I,m taking my wife to the game tomorrow and usually start off in BB,s.

How do you spot fellow CQN,ers,is there a signal or some other giveaway?

P.s. I,ll be the wee fat bald guy with a prawn on my head!!

  14. I was working at the election yesterday. The parties ‘A’ boards told all I needed to now. Both the SNP and Labours spoke about local issues, the Conservatives said: “Say no to another referendum, Vote Conservative.”

A national message delivered in a local setting; a simple message that appeals to the identity politics of today and tramples over ‘class’ lines and arguments, which no longer are relevant.

In 5 weeks the question will be the same. Yes or No. Yellow or Blue. The rest would be as well getting their deposits back. The Reds need to get a message that appeals outside affluent London and a grasp on the constitution and attract Yes voters back to them.

I was and am extremely disappointed that this local election was fought on these terms. It maybe just shows how more centralisation dilutes the power of the councils in the voters eyes.

    Ah, thanks for that.

So in plain speech: The Norwegian’s invested it. Successive U.K. governments used the bounty to shut industries and keep the wolf from the door. Now he’s huffing and puffing at the current generation’s straw house.

And if the SNP hadn’t joined forces with the Tories to bring down the Callaghan Government then perhaps Tony Benn’s idea of a sovereign oil fund mind have come to pass.

But it didn’t happen did it?

What happened was Thatcher cutting taxes and de industrialising Britain.

Bad for Scotland, bad for the working class, but bloody brilliant for the SNP.

No-one as far as I can see have tried to shut Ernie down or been particularly disparaging to him. He opens himself up to debate and some of us respond to that.

Ernie has an abrasive (not insulting) style and subsequently that is mirrored in many respsonses to him (see his take this morning on a CQN’ers dog being shot recently).

He also gives as good as he gets from what I can see.

As for Croydon, I lived up in Addiscombe Road for a couple of years fairly recently, so I can appreciate being slagged for that one! :>)

The Americans were in as soon as oil was struck….Thatcher diverted the proceeds to pay for her pet projects.

The McCrone Report 1974 showed the benefit of an Independent Scotland with control of oil resources, However, the Labour government buried it.

You are being selective to suit your agenda.

As i said, The Labour government buried the McCrone report, and sold Scotland to Thatcher.

If the truth of that report was made public, things might have turned out a bit different. Possibly Scotland would have had a Norway type oil fund that would have been of genuine benefit to the people, rather than being sold out by the Labour Party.

Labour paved the way for the Tories to squander the proceeds of the oil, we had no say in it.
