If you were ever offered the job of CEO at Celtic, your best friend is likely to advise against it. There are many reasons why someone who is capable of being offered this kind of job, should not take it, not least of all, they would be capable of getting another top job, without all the creepy attention it attracts.
Still, if offered, I know you would take the job and get a new best friend. Some jobs you just don’t knock back. So, it raised an eyebrow this morning to read that “Rangers [sic.] supporter [Jim] Gillespie” had withdrawn from talks on becoming CEO of Newco. Gillespie is currently a director of St Mirren and runs a support service for young people.
For football fans, there are “some jobs you just don’t knock back”, and there’s the Newco chief exec gig. Jim Gillespie had a look under the bonnet and, according to today’s newspapers, walked away.

Yup, that’s a ‘life’s way too short’ gig !
Thought the same thing myself.
How bad must things be 🤔
And the relevance to Celtic is……

Glasstwo…
If the only other team to have won the league in the last 40 odd years are not in a good place then it clears the way for us to continue the G.O.D.
Besides, most of us like to hear about that lot’s misery. 😅

The relevance to Celtic is that there’s a vacancy for PL to move to.

Seriously what would the reaction be if PL got the job of Sevco CEO?
Labour’s official party policy is hold a public inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane – endorsed and voted on by its membership.
I won’t be holding my breath that they’ll announce one today.
Celtic Quick News: Another article about Rangers.
Better than a brown-nosing puff piece I suppose.
AD- Thanks for the update
There are various reasons a player may not come to Scotland.
Climate, profile, future prospects etc.
None of that applies here. Presumably a pay rise for moving work location a few miles along the road.
One can only wonder what nastiness due diligence uncovered.

Yes indeed Paul – salutary lessons can be learned.

“Still, if offered, I know you would take the job and get a new best friend”
Not at all.
I would take the job and appreciate my friend even more for looking out for me and imparting his advice even if I chose to proceed regardless.
Heck I could perhaps even find my best friend a job at Celtic to see if he would practice what he preaches… just for the S&Gs / japes :]
Unless being CEO of Celtic means I need to make a new best friend, perhaps one with a blog I could use to exert control over the wider fanbase? Mmmm

N.B. That last paragraph was intended as humour and not a dig at our host. I’ll get ma coat.

RTE are reporting a public inquiry will be announced.
I think this news is very relevant to Celtic fans given it concerns are arch rivals
If a person selected for such an important job at Sevco turns them down then this clearly shows there is an issue with their business. This would likely affect their ability to compete with Celtic.
As already stated it is the subject of hilarity among the Celtic support and matching depression among the Sevco minions.
It does not mean that it will have any effect on Celtic other than confirming their weaknesses. Remember we are not half on anything
AD- Public Inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane

Seen Hilary Benn annouce public enquiry there on Parliament Channel,as AD says we should await the parameters and settings for it

This Gillespie thing is a complete humiliation for that club, this together with recent activities; at infrastructure level and playing staff issues is delicious.
Perhaps the new CEO, when they get one, could create a video on how not to run a business. It would generate more income than their current commercial activities 🙃

On the subject of relevance of the article, I think it is.
Schadenfreude doesn’t get me up in the morning but it does put a pep in my step.
These things move in cycles and hard as it seems to visualize, they will have their day again. We all know how they will behave if and when they do, so I’m comfortable enjoying their misery for now.
If the information and it’s implications are accurate, then it shows what a toxic mess they are in – self perpetuated and I have no sympathy for them.
Sevco supporters are subjected to freudenschade.
I think you’ve misread the (blue) room on this one Paul.
On a list of priorities for the staunch … being dissed by an alleged fan who is currently in a smaller job will barely register.
None of the non-sexy stuff like having a capable executive leadership and strong governance ever resonates.
Besides – they’ve got bigger problems.
For instance, during ITV’s coverage of England vs Finland the camera panned to Antti Niemi.
The commentator helpfully advised the audience that he played for Southampton ….
… and Hearts !!
“No one likes us”?
No one cares any more.
Doomed !!!!
Said it before, but to improve as a club, we need better opposition than can be found here. After all, how can you improve if not tested.
Still a fan of an Atlantic League type thing, without you know who, dream on eh !
Best to all out there in Timland

The SPL are set to announce new measures to be used in matches covered by VAR, ( video assisted rangers) subject to approval with UEFA in time for SPL resumption after the winter break 2024. In conjunction with current VAR technology and SKY TV coverage, existing guide lines will be redrawn to take account of the new measures being introduced to clarify the current offside rules. In time for Celtic’s visit to IBrokes the new orange and purple SKY TV lines will include new ‘measures’ adding to feet and inches, are to be known as dallas’s – this new measure is approximately half a centimetre down to a quarter centimetre, if Celtic are playing. Former Rainjurz legned Mark Hartley commented that the rules ‘improvement’ would be like a new signing. VAR chief, Willie Collum said “ We have the specnology “

Who is this schadenfreude?
Sign him up.
If PL wanted the gig at the bigotdome he would leave with my blessings infact I would run him over there myself.
Oh but wait who would win us the trophy’s like he did?
D :)
No doubt the Pat Finucane investigation has already been told that the verdict should be “he brought it on himself”.
We’ve seen this movie many times before

Paul – One other aspect of this situation might be worth airing if I may.
Being knocked back by one of your own is all very chucklefest-ish.
But the fact they are going after St Mirren level guys is telling.
