WALSH IN CHARGE

NICK WALSH will be in charge of Celtic’s crucial Premiership encounter against Dundee United at Parkhead on Saturday.

Daniel McFarlane and Frank Connor will assist the match official from the touchlines while Andrew Dallas will supervise VAR, aided by Gavin Duncan.

The match will signal Martin O’Neill’s second comeback as the champions’ interim manager during three turbulent months at the champions.

The 73-year-old Irishman stepped up following the hasty exit of Brendan Rodgers in late October following back-to-back league losses against Dundee at Dens Park and Hearts at Tynecastle.

SEEING RED…referee Nick Walsh sends off Ibrox striker Thelo Aasgaard following a wayward studs-up challenge on grounded Celtic defender Anthony Ralston (extreme right) during the Hoops’ 3-1 Premier Sports League Cup semi-final win in November.

O’Neill’s first match back was a 4-0 win over Falkirk in the east end of Glasgow with Johnny Kenny (2), Benjamin Nygren and Sebastian Tounekti on the scoresheet.

The stand-in gaffer also delivered league successes over Kilmarnock (4-0), St Mirren (1-0), Hibs (2-1) and Dundee (1-0).

Now Jim Goodwin’s club, who beat Wilfried Nancy’s side 2-1 at Tannadice last month, are in the sights of O’Neill as he prepares to relaunch the champions’ quest for a fifth successive title.

Walsh has been the man with the whistle in two previous Hoops games this season – the victory at Easter Road in November when Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels were the marksmen and the Premier Sports League Cup semi-final against Danny Rohl’s outfit,

Kenny, Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand struck the goals in a 3-1 win over Ibrox opposition.

O’Neill is now aiming to complete the hat-trick at the weekend.
