Warning from 2012

222

A whole lot of hard work in this season’s title race was done since last we gathered at Celtic Park.  Six goals scored, two each by Mooy, Maeda and Kyogo, and two conceded were enough collect four points and maintain our 9-point lead at the top of the table.  Even more impressive is that this was achieved with the fog of illness hanging over the squad.

Kilmarnock at home has been a banker for generations of Celtic fans.  In 82 home meetings since a loss in 1955, Kilmarnock have gone home with a win only once.  That defeat came when Celtic were on a multi-season high, just a few days after a 2-1 defeat in Barcelona and 10 days before winning the return leg by the same margin in the 2012-13 Champions League.

The SFA’s current Head of Refereeing, Crawford Allan, was ref that day, awarded the visitors a penalty and ruled out a Celtic goal.  Them’s the breaks, I suppose.

Players are not machines and there will be an inevitable drop in adrenaline since the festive results.  I have no doubt the same happened in games around our Champions League matches in 2012, opening the door for an historic Kilmarnock win.

Kilmarnock’s recent form is matched or bettered only by the top three in the table and, interestingly, Dundee United.  Derek McInnes has done well to gain promotion and slowly build results in the Premiership.  He has been to Celtic Park many times and knows how to win there.  There are reasons for us to be concerned.

  3. Mislav Orsic signing for Southampton for £7m

A quality Croatian international with 2 goals in the champions league this season against Chelsea and Milan, better than a goal every other game in the Europa League and a goal in the World Cup 3rd place pay off.

He’s 2 1/2 years older than Jura but Southampton are absolutely desperate for a player to help them stay up, and as well as the world cup premium they’ll be paying over the odds for him. Coming from a similar quality league, he’s not always a starter for Croatia but he’s behind Perisic so no shame in that.

Goalscorers go for more than any other position, he’s coming from a similar standard league to ours

It suggests that thats around a par amount for Jura, anything more will be a bonus.

Thanks for that, I’ve learned more about SDM over the last 24 hours than the previous 24 years🤪

  9. Just listened to that clip of Ange on the radio , its on videocelts, well said big man 100% correct.

    Excellent post.

It’s called succession planning . Which our present board seem to know absolutely nothing about.

    Hopefully Ange will educate them.

As someone else mentioned, Harry Kewell could be the man.

I just read it, his patience with these clowns has gone, a great piece 👌

  12. Celtic40me

Any idea on how long mislav orsic had to run on his present contract. £7m seems cheap for EPL

  13. Ange ( From the clip indicated above):

” There were only two saves in the game; one by Joe and one by Connor.”

  14. I am happy that people will consider what to do when Ange leaves.

I am less sure that Harry Kewell is the answer.

Ange brought him in as asst. manager. I think he was doing an up and coming Aussie a favour.

Harry’s CV as a manager includes spells at Crawley, Notts County, Oldham and Barnet. He lasted just over a year with the first two and only a few months in his last 2 positions. All were struggling League Two clubs except Barnet who were National League. He has win records of 31, 21 and 41 per cent with his first 3 clubs and no wins in his 7 matches with Barnet.

Harry may well be a hidden gem of a manager but he will have to prove it somewhere other than under Ange’s apron, before landing the Celtic job.

  15. LEFTCLICKTIC on 6TH JANUARY 2023 3:25 PM

He signed a contract this time last year so probably a fair amount

£7m is a lot for an EPL club to pay for an over 25 year old from a minor league, especially a 30 year old. They dont buy older players from small leagues generally, and when they do its never for more than than that and normally much less.

I remember him there being interest in him after he scored a hat trick against Spurs a few years ago, so he isn’t a player they don’t know anything about. Unlike Jura who moved 18 months ago for £2m.

  16. ‘GG on 6TH JANUARY 2023 1:08 PM

If anyone has caught the Alistair Johnston interviews recently you should be impressed by his demeanor, positive attitude and obvious delight at being at CP.

Let’s hope he continues as he has started.

    ____

Apart from an impressive debut he comes across as a very smart boy. I’m pleased to say, we have quite a few of them, calmac, o’riley, jenz etc. Very pleased to see that Johnson also has a physical presence.

  17. Prestonpans bhoy.

My wee nudge is to keep yi to facts,at least there are real events,wi evidence to back them up,he is an easy chap to theorize/conspiratize bout(links to Stuart family lol)pity mintyda didnt use that one and he was a tax avoiding!

Dave was checked out when he purchased the club he ploughed into liquidation.let Sir Hunner of Pence keep his title,a constant reminder of his fraud.

Only one(wee gavin mastertons donation) was not what would be called a ‘shell’front’guise company,

By the time MurrayGroup ended the number of those companies had mushroomed to over a thousand once MG whole network of comp/subsid/part owned began to cave in on itself by needing finance from parent companies.

He was not a happy chappy sometimes,as to how his subsidiary companies behaved,he would hesitate to sue.he threatened this 3 times on one of them, guess? Wee clue he had an 87% holding prior to selling for a hundred pence.:-))

  18. Ange’s comments will just make the refs more determined to not give us a justified penalty… remember back when we were accusing Arsenal of diving , only for Aiden to be sent off the following weekend by Dougie MacDonald for vaulting over a lunge from a Hibs defender on the half way line !

I guess from the club’s perspective, there’s only so much BS that we can stomach on the pitch and the unseen BS we receive behind close doors.

I don’t believe the refs deliberately go out with the sole objective of sticking it to us …. I suspect 2 things at play … it will be drummed into the refs don’t get swayed by the home crowd , give what you see etc , you can see that at a lot of home games where you’d expect a fair share of 50/50 calls but the ref wants to make a mark and very often we get harshly penalised and secondly there is the unconscious bias syndrome where they just can’t help themselves

There is another aspect affecting ref decision making is their level of fitness is not keeping pace with the general increase of speed of the game which for me results in refs being a poor position; the number of times in a game when we are having to pass the white thing round the ref is shocking

Where the club should take this is a review post season and if we are on the receiving end continually and the two clubs with excessive diving , Huns and mini Huns , we will have reached a point where the new rules are effectively allowing play acting by cheats and unconscious bias by officials …

Solution is that if this continues then league fixtures for the top 4 ref by foreign officials , cup semis and all games against the Huns also foreign officials; includes VAR. We should propose this for season 2024 -2025 as the unconscious bias becomes totally exposed by VAR

  19. Remember when Ajeti got a pen with minimal contact?

Cited for simulation and ‘avoided’ a ban as it was ‘not proven’

I thought it was a bit cheaty at the time but accept that it happens, especially when you consider the EPl acid test of ‘there was contact’

Pretty sure Sakala won’t be cited but they were quite similar

  20. Prestonpans bhoys on

I was talking to a linesman before lockdown who told me the problem he has and many others is the speed of Celtic. Now that was before Angeball😵‍💫

    EKBHOY

Keeping our own counsel has never worked, you couldn’t be more determined not to give Celtic a penalty than Beaton and Collum on Monday.

Unless you’re McLean and his many assistants in that disgraceful Meekings handball in the semi-final a few years back, or maybe Madden seeing no problem with the ex-QPR defender’s waist high tackle from behind, with no contact on the ball, as Griff was poised to score a late winner against Sevco.

And this season the defender’s clear handball at Tynecastle set the tone for ignoring fouls on Celtic in the penalty area which Sevco get every time.

Unconscious bias? You’d need to have been unconscious not to have seen those 3 examples as penalties.

  22. Great presser from big Ange today. I hope he doesn’t get into trouble.

12 points ahead this time tomorrow, hopefully.

    Hail Hail.

  23. How are the SMSM going to twist our manager’s words so that they won’t reflect bad on them or will they simply ignore what he said? Get another MIB to do mental gymnastics once again? They only have to ask the likes of Walker.

Will the powers that be pay any attention and make sure we have a level playing field? Imo, not a chance in my lifetime.

The playing field is so unlevel that with just a little tilt a 10 year old club can lay claim to 55 titles.
