WATCH AGAIN AS KENNY CLAIMS A PARADISE FIRST

JOHNNY KENNY managed something against Newcastle United yesterday that he hasn’t been able to do since joining Celtic in January 2022 – score a goal at Parkhead!

Admittedly, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has had two loan spells at Shamrock Rovers since arriving from Sligo Rovers which would have contributed to the delay.

The livewire raider’s only competitive goal for the champions came in the Hoops’ 5-1 victory over Aberdeen in the Premiership at Pittodrie on May 14.

PARADISE POSTPONED – FOR A MOMENT…Johnny Kenny is about to capitalise on keeper Nick Pope’s blunder to score Celtic’s second goal and his first at Parkhead.

Kenny got a sample of what hopefully lies ahead in the new season when Kasper Schmeichel delivered a ball from his own penalty area that eliminated the visitors’ backline.

The eager forward chased the raking pass and was given a free hit when keeper Nick Pope raced outside the box and completely missed with an attempted headed clearance.

Kenny collected the ball and nonchalantly rolled in Celtic’s second goal just before the interval after Arne Engels had scored the opener via the penalty spot.

ON A WING AND A SLAYER…impressive South Korean wide Bhoy Yang Hyun-jun celebrates Celtic’s third goal against Newcastle. Images courtesy Celtic TV.

Yang Hyun-jun, who had been impressive during his 63 minutes on the pitch, knocked in the third following a sweeping move down the left that saw Daizen Maeda flash a low ball to the far post and the South Korean’s timing was perfect as he tucked the ball under substitute netminder Martin Dubravka.

Liam Scales rounded off an excellent performance from Brendan Rodgers’ men with a powerful header after some good work by comeback Bhoy Kieran Tierney.

Kenny’s first goal in Paradise and the counters from Engels, Yang and Scales are well worth a second look – courtesy of those good folk at Celtic TV Unique Angle.

Please enjoy!
