CELTIC hoisted their Premiership goal tally to nine in three games with their 3-0 triumph over St Mirren in Paisley yesterday.
The destination of the points was never in any doubt after skipper Callum McGregor had lashed the opener behind the overworked Ellery Balcombe, the on-loan keeper from Brentford who kept the score down with some heroic stops.
Reo Hatate rifled in the second before the break and Alistair Johnston joined in with only his third goal for the Hoops, ironically his first coming at the same venue in a 5-1 league triumph on March 5 2023.
Brendan Rodgers’ men are bidding for their fourth successive title, their thirteenth championship in 14 years and their 55th crown in their history – and they are going the right way about it.
ONE…Callum McGregor fires in the opener inside three minutes to stun St Mirren.
TWO…Reo Hatate pounces to lash a low drive away from Saints keeper Ellery Balcombe.
THREE…Alistair Johnston wallops in the final goal with Paulo Bernardo and Nicolas Kuhn supplying the admiring glances in Paisley.
Kasper Schmeichel has yet to concede a Premiership goal with the Hoops kicking off on Flag Day on August 4 with a 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Parkhead with Hatate claiming the first strike of the new campaign. Liam Scales, Nicolas Kuhn and Anthony Ralston joined the parade.
A week later at Easter Road, it was Kuhn who got the quickfire breakthrough goal with McGregor adding a spectacular long-range second in a 2-0 win.
Plus there has also been a 3-1 Premier Sports League Cup triumph over Hibs to applaud on an afternoon in Paradise when Daizen Maeda struck twice in the first 17 minutes and Kuhn added a third.
Now all eyes are on the east end of Glasgow on Sunday when Philippe Clement takes his Ibrox side across the city for the first derby of the campaign.
Before that, though, let’s reflect on a job well done in storm-lashed Paisley courtesy of those good folk at Celtic TV Unique Angle.
