CELTIC blew apart the Cup Final curse as they overcame Neil Lennon’s gallant Dunfermline 3-1 at Hampden yesterday to complete the double and lift their 43rd Scottish Cup.
After last season’s loss to Aberdeen in the same competition and the flop in the Premier Sports League Cup against St Mirren in December, Martin O’Neill bodyswerved the banana skin that had upended Brendan Rodgers and Wilfried Nancy in the previous two not-so-grand finales.
That was one hat-trick the 74-year-old Irishman had no wish to achieve.
First-half goals from Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels – one a deft flick and the other a full-blooded thunderous drive – put the champions on the right course.

LIFT-OFF…Kelechi Iheanacho takes to the air as he celebrates netting Celtic’s third goal in the Scottish Cup triumph over Dunfermline at Hampden.
Kelechi Iheanacho, apparently the team’s ‘go to player’ when a crucial goal is required, displayed some mesmerising close control as he danced his way past two challenges from frantic defenders before sidestepping keeper Anton Oxborough and nonchalantly rolling the ball towards its inevitable destination.
Josh Cooper claimed a consolation goal for the Fifers near the end with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute.
However, it was never going to take the gloss off a Celtic performance that brought down the curtain on a rollercoaster campaign.
It’s certainly worth a second look, courtesy of those good folk at Celtic TV Unique Angle.
