THERE wasn’t too much for the Celtic fans to enthuse over as Brendan Rodgers’ men slumped to a 4-2 Champions League loss against Aston Villa in the Midlands last night.
The Hoops gifted their hosts a two-goal advantage in only five minutes and it was an uphill battle all the way after that shocking start.
However, there were two moments of joy in a rollercoaster first-half when Adam Idah struck a double in double quick time.
The Republic of Ireland international powerhouse, now the club’s main attack leader following Kyogo Furuhashi’s £10million departure to French club Rennes, hit a memorable twosome within two minutes and 25 seconds of each other.
Idah, recruited on a permanent £9.5million deal from Norwich City in the summer, defied gravity and displayed lightning reflexes to fire in the first from a Greg Taylor left-wing cross in the 36th minute.
Villa were still reeling when the hitman pounced again as he snapped onto a low ball from Reo Hatate to thump a close-range effort past the bemused Emiliano Martinez.
Alas, Celtic conceded two more goals after the turnaround – the killer fourth arriving in stoppage-time – but, at least, Idah gave the travelling support something to cheer in a tumultuous encounter.
His double is certainly worth a second look, courtesy of those good folk at Celtic TV Unique Angle.
