Watching the central defender space

273

I have been keeping an eye open for whispers on the central defender front. Although we have already brought Marvin Compper in this month, Brendan could be tempted into trading a few (cough) of the existing squad, so there could be more arrivals.

Reports in Poland this morning suggest Arsenal’s 20-year-old central defender, Krystian Bielik, could be heading on loan to Scotland, despite Legia wanting to loan back their former player. Celtic have worked the academy system at PSG and Manchester City recently, would not be surprised if we were scouting Arsenal too.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Neganon2 the accountant that sees the Celtic board like a fan in the street, where we have exactly £30M from last seasons CL, and more recently another £9M from the VVD sell on clause.

Over the years on CQN at least you’re consistent, but can’t see the wood for the trees.

You still suspect ‘the money’ is all salted away to the Kelly’s and the Grants or the wee wummin in Ireland.

Its been posted ad nauseum that transfers don’t equate £ for £, and there are few if any £5M £6M + players who can come to Celtic unless they are prospects like Olivier Ntcham.

We survive on selling to stay top dog in a back water, and thats as good as it gotten for us and CQN in all its existence.

Finding ‘diamonds in the midden’ Dembele, VVD, Victor et all, and having a chore of better than Aberdeen players is all there is.

That and having a world class manager can only buy our 52,000 season tickets, sell out in the CL and probably the Europa.

Football clubs don’t bank millions, we’ll dwarf Scotlands spend in every window, for every foreseeable window, build hotels, improve environment retain and maintain the best stadium in Scotland.

We are witnessing a new Celtic, a Celtic that really won the war and we’ll continue to dominate through superior legitimately obtained advantage, ad infinitum.

I’d go further and say that since our transfer market is contaminated by our proximity to the EPL, there are very few players priced at £5-6M that you would actually want to buy. Most of the players floating about England at those prices are Kaka…sorry, typo…I meant sh*te.

  6. TOP Daily Record rag Journo reports today in a full page story ( My copy and paste didn’t quite work)

    By GARY RALSTON.

    Ranjurs for ADMIN ?….nae chance.

Problems at Ranjurs…? “There are no problems”

Dave King has advised the auditors that he will out in ANOTHER £7 MILLION this year to cope with running costs.

Ranjurs SET ASIDE £1 MILLION for McInnes compensation.

Dave King HAS put £20 MILLION of his own money in, half of which was used up by David Murray.

RALSTON claims that the “Admin Rumour started thru a Tesco checkout thru a friend, of a friend etc”.

These are just SOME of the statements that Ralston has written today.

    BLA, BLAH Feckin BLAH !

    ….

Now I aint no expert Nor am I in the “know”… but Ralston makes NO MENTION of Kings lawyer declaring his client “Penniless” So where is King getting this £7 MILLION ?

Ralston makes NO MENTION of the FAILED TRANSFER of Jamie Murphy, and the shambles that ensued.

Ralston makes NO MENTION of why Ranjurs didn’t sign Walker from hertz.

Ralston makes a ugly remark about Mike Ashley…whilst holding up King as a Pillar of Society.

Maybe someone will post the “article on here ?

    Couldn’t agree more!

I present two names Alex Pritchard & Scott Arfield. If either of these guys were to be signed tomorrow there would be outcry on here. Rightly so, because they would be worse than what we already have. These guys are being valued between £10m-£15m and are demanding wages in excess of £60k per week (almost double our highest paid player currently). The people who claim the board are not investing, I’ve yet to see a sensible argument regarding what they mean by investment? All I ever read is Football Manager fantasy land talk.

While I am it, another thing that rips my nut is the constant bigigng up of players “we do not sign” and then using that as a way to throw sh!t around. WTF has Charly Musonda ever done that suddenly gives these people the impression that he is the second coming of Christ? He has barely played a first team game at any level and there are nutjob’s on here advocating Celtic should “burst the bank” to sign him.

That article by Ralston is just his latest instalment in a parody of Scottish sports journalism.

He learnt at the knee of some who dragged it through the gutter,so who do you blame. The teacher? Or the rancidly thick student?

I blame the parents. In this case, the Record.

  14. Sean- correct, it was the same when the huns were after a player( remember then?),some wet knickered guys would want us to sign him first, usually a very average clogger.

  21. Ajer started to show what he has got pre season. He is definitely a starter, and earned it. One to keep. Song for young Ajer make him a Celtic supporter first. Already a player, potential to become a great, or sold.

  22. Happy Birthday CCB, not sure if it’s Big Jimmy’s Birthday or not but Happy Birthday Big Jimmy anyway plus Awe Naw & any other Bhoys who share this day.

Re transfer Window, I’m as impatient as anyone else for signings but I’ll suspend judgement until Feb 1st.

To be honest I’m more concerned to see present Bhoys like Armstrong, Rogic, Griff & Dembele recover their mojo.

Strikers in particular thrive on confidence & need a run of games, recently it has been like Lanigan’s Ball between Griff, Dembele & Edouard, one steps in and one steps out again and it ain’t working.
