Watt ready to push Hooper

922

There were so many pleasing aspects to yesterday’s performance.  Perhaps most importantly, we won a game and scored goals without our primary creative fulcrum, Kris Commons, and without playing our backup fulcrum, Charlie Mulgrew, in a creative position.

Several players will return for Wednesday’s Champions League play-off decider against Helsingborgs but Tony Watt has given Neil Lennon plenty to consider.  He was by some magnitude the best player on the field, and was considerably more threatening than his strike partner, Gary Hooper, who has had no genuine competition for the main striker position since arriving at Celtic two years ago.  I’ve felt for some time that Gary needs to be pushed.  Tony might be the man to do this.

Do you remember six years ago we mocked Paul Le Guen’s Rangers with, “You’re fourth in the SPL…”  Poor Sevco are fourth in the fourth tier of Scottish football.  Give that guy McCoist another 5% of the shares, he’s absolutely priceless.

I’ve just changed my name to The Lance Armstrong, bought his old bike, claimed his titles and demanded entry on the tour next year. If anyone objects they will be called a bigot.

  7. DBBIA – God bless your mum. I lost mine 30th April this year, miss her dearly, but like you too was glad she passed on, as the quality of her, normally very active life, had been greatly diminished, firstly by an accident and then dementia.

My memories of her fill me with joy.

Unbelievably it is 12 years ago today that we beat Rangers 6-2 in MON’s first glasgow derby.

  11. Willy Boly – linked with the Club via the Daily Ranger. The guy is absolutely top class – i didn’t realise he was still at Auxerre. I watched Auxerre late last season, and he wasn’t playing, so i thought he had maybe left them. When I saw him before, he was exactly the sort of defender we need: Big, great in the air (if a ball came into the Auxerre box, it went straight back out again off his heid), and like most French players, technically good as well. Additionally he is young, so could be sold on for seriously big cash if he continues to improve. Unfortunately I think serious Clubs will come in with proper bids, and the lack of ambition at Celtic will see us drop out of the running for a player of this pedigree. I would love to see someone of this profile at the Club – a centre back equivakent of Wanyama.

  12. I’m not too sure if we need another striker ?

Is it not more the case that, we don’t create enough

chances for that strikers that we have ?

Going by the last two games, Neil seems to have found

a formula were more chances are being created ?

Not too long ago…i was watching us going through an entire

half of a game and only managing a couple of shots at goal.

Game by game, Neil is showing that – if you’ve got the stuff

then you don’t need to be an apprentice manager for 5 years.

    Unlike some I could mention…..

Any reason why he hasn’t played for Auxerre so far this season as he was a regular last season playing 33 out of 38 league games.

Maybe he just doesn’t want to play in Ligue2 and is holding out for a move.

    Hopefully he’s not injured.

It’s a good thing Sevco are being helped out to avoid defeat because every town, far and wide the locals will get to see what we’ve had to put up with for years, the galling, dry boak that’s ruined Scottish football is being laid bare everywhere now and not just the confines of the spl.

    – > I think that we desperately need a big target man striker who can score with his head. This will give us the ‘Plan B’ that the club has lacked for a few years, since jan Vennegoor left. Watt is an excellent prospect, who will probably be sold eventually. he isn’t the answer right now though – he is an addition to what we have already. there will be games, domestically and in europe, where a big target man will allow us an alternative tactic in attack. We have lacked that for some time. Samaras definitely isn’t that kind of player.

  21. So another 5 arrested at the sevco game for sectarian singing makes 21 or so altogether.

Not a single arrest for any other club in the country. See a pattern developing here.

No comment from the powers that be or any of the msm, surprising that.

  22. Well, exactly 12 years ago to the day around this time, I was making my way to Paradise, wondering how MON’s new Celtic team would fare against the Foe Malign.

11 minutes into the game, and 3-0 up, I got the answer.

I can still see ole Fernando getting hooked after 23 minutes, cruelly tortured by The One & Only Bobby Petta.

I wonder how much that 6-2 hammering contributed to Oldco’s financial problems. By the time the sides met at Ibrox I’m sure Tore Andre (God bless him and his transfer fee) was signed for £12 million.

What a day….Big Sutton started the process of “putting them in their place”, a process that he would continue to hammer away at for the next 5 yeras or so…..Henrik scored probably his best ever goal for us.

They were mentally damaged that day, and wee Bazza just couldnae wait to change into his club tracksuit and go out drinking and finding happy Celtic supporters to fight with.
