‘We deserve better’ narcissistic nonsense

305

‘We deserve better’ is one of those phrases which sounds reasonable at first pass but does not stand up to scrutiny.

Fans deserve honesty, good governance and a safe environment to watch football, but do you think any team’s fans deserve on-field success?  No.  And if there is one club out there where this mantra holds true, they don’t train at Murray Park.

Football success is not a right, conferred by the aggregate number of season tickets bought, divisions played in, or successful campaigns to unseat investors completed.  You buy a ticket to be entertained and watch your football team.  This act does not come with an implicit understanding of what the outcome of any individual match will be, or an entire season’s undertakings.

It is narcissistic nonsense to think you deserve football success.

‘We deserve to watch our team win, lose and draw.’  This isn’t likely to replace ‘A club like no other’ on your season ticket, but it is the ultimate truism in football and we should all hear it occasionally.

‘We deserve frankness, in times of success and failure.’

‘We deserve to know there is no way to bridge the ‘gap’.’

‘We deserve to be told the old ways are gone forever and there is nothing anyone can do about it.’

‘We deserve to know if we put the club in the hands of a charlatan.’

‘We deserve to know that many of us will never see the league title go to Ibrox in our lifetime.’

You will never see these phrases on a bedspread at the gates to Murray Park, but the day will come when they are acknowledged truths.

I heard paul lambert being asked about the buns job on the radio recently. He burst out laughing, not something he does often I reckon. He said there’s absolutely no chance he’d ever end up there, he sounded pretty convincing

Sorry for the late reply, work and then journey home got in the way.

I understand that we should never be complacent and must be ready to question decisions made by the board. No complaints from me on that score.

My problem is that some people see the board as a bigger enemy than the hun cabal running the game for the benefit of one club only.

Celtic are the only club to publicly call for a full investigation of how the Huns cheated for years. Every other club has either remained silent or tried to sabotage any possibility of a proper enquiry. Even when the evidence is produced to show Celtic has done more than anyone to try and clean up the game the are still accused of collusion in the cheating.

If anyone can produce proof, not supposition, innuendo or even outright lies, that our board collude with the Huns and the football authorities I will have no problem with demanding those responsible are thrown out of our club on their arses.

I have given examples of how Celtic have tried to get this sorted no one has ever published one shred of evidence that they were involved. Dermot Desmond’s off the cuff remarks when he was buttonholed on a golf course does not count as evidence in my book.

Anyway enjoy your day/evening/night depending on timezones I am away to feed two vicious females and then I will have to feed the dogs too. :-)

    Celtic need a strong Rangers

    Stan did not say that.

He said rangers were poor and that Hibs and Aberdeen, along with rangers, needed to improve, which would help Celtic, due to better competition.

We do need need to promote a myth that too many others are only to keen to.

    Stan said this also

“People always say Celtic v Rangers will always be one of the big rivalries, but if Rangers don’t challenge, it will lose its intensity and it’s important for Scotland.

“That’s what Scottish football is all about; the Old Firm and that’s why people all around the world love Scottish football.

“If that doesn’t come back, it will be very difficult for Scottish football to recover.”

The former Hoops midfielder admitted that he does not see Murty as the man to close the gap on Celtic, who are set for a seventh league title in a row, but is keen to see the competition between the two to improve in the future.

    Owen,

Like most on here, I do not want to think the worst of Celtic … and for several years, I gave them the benefit of the doubt…

but at a certain point, faith becomes willlful suspension of disbelieve, which becomes willful blindness…

That is the problem with conspiracy .. it is not usually done in the open, and people dont typically rush to admit that they have engaged in it…

Fortunately, there are rules of law and evidence … that have been developed so that a party cannot simply stonewall the other …

one such rule is that where a party fails to call a witness who is in the party’s control (for example, an employee), the court/tribunal can (and usually will) assume that the witness’ evidence would not support the party’s position ..

there are also rules against ‘cherry picking’ … that is, disclosing parts of communications that help your case, but witholding others that dont …

so, a party cant just ignore problems and, in effect, say to the other side ‘we have the documents/witnesses you need to prove your case, but we arent going to produce them … you cant prove your case’.

there are also legal and evidentiary burdens … the plaintiff bears the burden of proving his case (51%) … if he adduces evidence, the onus will shift to the defendant to adduce evidence to rebut, or the Plaintiff will likely have met his onus …

as far as evidence, in fact, oath-helping precludes a party from calling evidence of what it has said to a thrid party to help its case (e.g., if I am accused of running a red light, but I subseqeuntly told someone that the light was green, I cannot call that person to give evidence that I said the light was green… it is said to have no probative value…

however, if afterwards, I had told someone that the light was red… that person could tesify against me under an exception to hearsay evidence, as a statement against insterest.

Enough crap has happened that, for me, the onus has shifted to Celtic to show what they did …

As I said, I did give them the benefit of the doubt, but, for me, we are now well past that point …

I keep hoping that, one of these days, VFR’s word of the day will be hegemony. .. but that is a follow up discussion.

Thanks for that info. I have lots of respect for Paul Lambert the fitba player. Less so now. I would still not like to see him as Sevco manager.

  8. It was possible to appeal the LNS decision. The plaintiff (SFL) could have appealed. They had a Committee meeting when the CFC member was out of the country and voted not to appeal…

The appeal would have been heard by the SFA. There remains a suspicion that had said CFC member been in attendance a vote for appeal could have succeeded.

  9. I’m pretty sure the SFA Licensing Committee will be delighted by the result on Sunday. Now they just need Aberdeen and Hibs to do the business over the next 5 league games to dig them out of their hole.

Well it’s either that or uphold the rules.

The rest of your, (Stan’s) quote is based on those three words.

    Rangers challenge, old firm rivalry.

There is no old firm; one half died in 2012.

There is no rangers challenge; Sevco’s record v Celtic is 0/10.

But some “people always say”, blah, blah blah.

I asked earlier, “ Do ex players get paid to conduct media duties”?

Do ex players get asked back if they stay on message?

Ultimately we deserve better is BS. It’s just a different way of saying we arra peepul. I have a few friends who are decent guys who happen to support newco. As much as I enjoy seeing their club being humiliated I genuinely feel for them right now. (My mates I mean ) l have no time for their club and the cheating that went on there. Karma’s a wonderful thing

    It’s not my quote.

I was just trying to let the blog see more of what Stan was quoted as saying.

People can make their own minds up. I don’t care enough about it to let it bother me.

Most professional players see it differently from most fans. That’s the circle they are involved in.

    Hail Hail

  17. If you look at the hall of shame i.e the roster of previous Sevco managers it’s fairly obvious they don’t have a budget for a manager…

Their fans can dream on about De Boer and Van Brockhurst but the reality is Glibby has got any wedge and the other Bear fodder are coming to the end of their pound tether..hence their under 20’s coach taking charge of their biggest games of the season:))

So in the words of the great man, where’s the effin’ wages coming from:))

    We deserve bitter…

  18. Far be it for me to rail against Paul’s triumphalism but this caught my eye.

“ You buy a ticket to be entertained and watch your football team. This act does not come with an implicit understanding of what the outcome of any individual match will be, or an entire season’s undertakings.”

In a nutshell this shows the arrogance, greed and complete misunderstanding of the Celtic support.

Paul during the delia years bemoaned anyone demanding entertainment. Worse than that he accused the support of being fickle to demand it.

Time after time he has refused a support versus customer debate.

These quotes also effectively take pressure off Celtic for champions league qualification where we regularly struggle to deal with teams with a much lesser budget than us.

It’s pathetic hypocracy from Paul and sadly tells us of the rampant complacency that is in charge at cl.

If it were the Huns we would laug HH at their arrogance.

    Squirrel Paul?

  19. Boy do them huns love a statement!

On hun media they’re wetting themselves over the latest Union Bears statement in which outlined how they plan to take back control. They have stated that, while they will attend their next home game against the mini huns they are gonna express their extreme displeasure at the sevco board by ….wait for it…… not singing or shouting much!

No doubt Dave King will shit a brick when he hears this and unleash the War Chest!

  20. Exiled Tim

Green pushed through the 5way agreement in a secret meeting with Duff & Phelps, Regan, Doncaster, plus some others. I think the Jim Ballantyne guy from Airdrie. The agreement was made and when it went to the clubs Sevco didn’t get in to the top division and had to start at the bottom league

This was the first time Celtic had any say in the matter and it memory serves then Turnball Hutton of Raith Rovers led the dissent.

I don’t agree with Celtic Board on everything. There are plenty of issues which I disagree but influence in the Masonic Hampden bodies is not something we really have. We do have our own Magazine and the programme to speak directly to our fans and we don’t seem to want to use this to communicate

The Cove Rangers statement is a bit tongue in cheek but SFA Chairman Alan McRae is from Cove Rangers.

I mean how can the Top man in the SFA be from a Highland league team !!!

  21. Who cares what petrov said he was a good player, done the business and moved on to be seen not very often ever again. Sevco vs us game sells tickets, gets good viewing figures and increased interest, but i care little about that as i am not an armchair fan.

If the gap is to be closed them it is the other clubs that must step up and i think hibs and aberdeen have over the last couple of years. I dont mind compitition so long as its on a level playing field. Oh aye there’s the problem sevco have, cant go getting 250,000’0000 from murray and the friendly ? bank.
