‘WE DESERVED TO WIN,’ DEMBELE

ON-FIRE French frontman Moussa Dembele believes Celtic deserved all three points in their Champions League 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany last night.

The powerful 20-year-old striker scored from the penalty spot to give Brendan Rodgers’ men a point, a result which keeps alive their hopes of European football beyond Christmas.

Callum McGregor squandered a marvellous opportunity late in the game to give the Hoops a victory at Borussia Park and Dembele admitted Brendan Rodgers’ men should have emerged with their first victory in Group C.

He said: “I think we played much better football than we did in the first match, we believed in ourselves and we had a lot of chances.

“We deserved better in this game. We keep learning and, hopefully, in the next one we can get a result.”

Celtic remain bottom of the group on two points and face European giants Barcelona at Parkhead later this month and Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in December as they aim to extend their European adventure.

After missing a penalty in the group opener against Barcelona, Dembele remained calm to stroke the ball past Yann Sommer after being brought down by Julian Korb, who was sent off for the foul in the 76th minute.

Dembele, who has now scored 16 goals since arriving from Fulham in the summer, added: “We’ll keep believing we can continue. We’ll take it game-by-game and, hopefully, we can still be in Europe.”
