Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.
As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.
That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.
The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.
Bring it on. We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

It’s not an optical illusion. It just looks like one.
Yaas just logged in
Looking forward to pre season training on Monday I’ve been working hard on my fitness, hoping to impress.
The people looking after the Peepul.
This time there’s gonna be no more Mr Nice Guy.
Tom-just logged on,delighted to see you back, cyber handshake back to you,I hope you and yours are well HH
Surley Celtic would say something regarding this.? Is this the way it will be from now on? The division one champions will now get center stage.
Looks like the statement (remember that?) isn’t going to be this week.
Maybe next week.
Or the week after, though by then I don’t suppose anyone will be too bothered either way.
The Tories say they won’t contest the Batley by-election,decency in politics? Will never catch on…
Running late today and only just catching up with the news (Partick game postponed!).
Thanks Bada Bing.

Except you as all you do in talk about the statement
Lustig out,Guidetti starts for Sweden
Didn’t Celtic specifically ask for the second match at home so they could postpone it for the Inter game?
Regardless, Doncaster was on Sky Sports as the fixtures were released and when asked for his thoughts on the opening games he said, “Rangers at home to unfurl their title flag.”
Nearly fell off my chair.
good to hve you back tom

Try turning off JavaScript on your mobile/tablet.
My desktop at work is a nightmare, btw.
To hang with them.
Happy to play any of them in whatever contrived order they want.

The SFA waives the rules.
I’m just surprised we got the first the first home game against sevco. Thought they would get it to guarantee them 2 home games against us.
At least we play the Monkeys first at home.dont care about the rest of the fixtures. As for the “Flag day”Celtic are unfurling the Flag at the first Euro game.As its free on the ST,everyone who wants to see it will.If we can get off to a flyer,we will leave the rest choking on our fumes.Have to say,its a mouthwatering opener.Electric.
What part did Celtic’s request for a free week on 13 August play in this decision – am I right in saying that you can only reschedule a home game to accomodate a ‘glamour’ friendly?
Had this not been the case we would be at home on first day.

Glory hunter!
Welcome back!
HH!!
Only one comment Celtic are interested in ‘Sold Out’
Fixtures seem very Sevco-friendly.
Nicely set up for them to get a head start on their two likely rivals (Aberdeen and Hearts) who both play Celtic and each other early on.
All fits in nicely for a top-of-the-table “old firm” hypefest in early September.

Brittania rule so the waives:-)

Welcome back. You started wi a stoatir!
Absolute joke for him to say that. The peepil must have their pleasures.
No doubt,on the back of a bruising, they’ll wreck everyone’s weekend.
Their innate supremacist is gonna have to go back into hiding.
Bring it on.
we have never got a help before and
we sure dont need it now.

SPFL software rigged to give the defending champions a tough start just when we’re trying to qualify for the Champions League.
Who’da thunk it?
Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts all representing Scotland in Europe, trying to qualify in August to boost our coefficient. I know lets give all 3 hard games against each other. SFA? FFS

Do you have any information as to why Dundee Utd & Killie had their licences to play in Europe rejected for season 2017/2017. Hamilton A/C also had theirs rejected and as I understand it that was due to none of their management or coaching staff holding Euro coaching licences.

Neal Alexander has moved to Aberdeen this season so that should leave a gap in the Hearts goal wide enough for our new striker to hit the ground running in the league.

Not happy about our first match not being at home for a flag day.
It’s virtually set in stone that the CHAMPIONS unfurl the flag on Day One of the season.

I usually only mention it at the start and at the end of the week.
At one time everyone was talking about it.
Nowadays, not so much.
I’m not sure why.
Maybe it was just a passing fad, a little blip, soon to be forgotten.
Like the absence of the huns and The Old Firm.
Should read 2016/2017

thx m8, i’ll give it a go:).
Anyone any idea how one would go about stopping the incessant pop up adds on CQN. Bad enough having to read some of the right wing B/S posted but having to constantly close full page ads is a real pain in the posterior.
