Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.
As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.
That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.
The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.
Bring it on. We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

Many thanks again to the new batch of people who have posted condolences and such lovely comments about the death of my mother.
Connaire12 mentioned how special mothers are. During my hospital and nursing home visits over the few years, I have heard 90 year old people calling out for their mothers. If you are blessed with a wonderful mother, their influence will never fade.
Via a private address I got the most extraordinary email from one person here which was truly inspirational to me. CQN can be a very special place.

The site is becoming unusable. On Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge it hangs due to long running scripts. Just about as bad on Explorer. VPN’s slow it down even more.
Mobiles are a wee bit better, iPhone but I don’t want a browser only for CQN.
Edge is nothing more than a vehicle for ads.
Try installing Chrome and, if necessary a simple ad blocker.
This year’s flag is won and its unfurling date means nothing.
Only next year’s Flag has any meaning.
