Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.
As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.
That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.
The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.
Bring it on. We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

Croatia 1 up v Czechs at HT.
Was impressed by them in their first game win against Turkey and in particular Perisic, their goal scorer today, who unfortunately plays for Inter Milan. Their game v Spain Tuesday evening should be a cracker.

On the subject of sell-on clauses, when Southampton sold Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur, they omitted to include such a clause, which would have earned them in excess of £15m when he was subsequently sold to Real Madrid.
I am a little confused (yes I know not for the first time).
All this stuff about fixtures and about the Huns getting a wee home game to unfurl their flag whilst Celtic need to do it at a European game. And moaning about the sfa almost pretending only one team is raising a flag.

But you have all signed up to this? We all had our chance. Celtic said and did nothing. We have condoned cheating and accepted we will be cheated at every turn. Openly and wantonly.

Celtic requested that our second game be at home so we could cancel for Inter Milan friendly. If second game is at home then the first is away.
I thought Celtic had asked for the home game to be changed?
I don’t really see the big deal with “flag day”, winning the league happened last season when we received the trophy. Can’t be many countries that also have “flag days” as well?? Once the new seasons starts the previous champions no longer matter, it’s all about the next one.
