We have seen the future

Last night’s France-Spain game will surely be marked as one of the most influential friendlies in history. A Fifa sanctioned trial of video refereeing saw a goal for the hosts by Griezmann ruled offside by the video ref, while Spain’s second goal, scored by Deulofeu, was incorrectly flagged by the assistant as offside, only to be ruled a goal after a 40-second consultation with the video ref.

Watching it happen was a lightbulb moment. It’s this easy to get difficult decisions right?

We can moan endlessly about the standard of refereeing in Scotland – and pretty much every other country does the same, but we saw the future last night. Video technology has been used in rugby for years and will soon be an everyday part of football.

The video ref turned what would have been a 1-1 draw into a 0-2 win for Spain, correctly reflecting the goals scored. It’s hard to think of anything that could benefit the game as much. Generations of Celtic fans have dreamed of such oversight and accountability in refereeing.

If only we could have it for Hampden in the semi-final………

Yane, there has to be something that drives the policy of silence and allowing the rags to print their pish, it harms us no end imo, not only in scotland cos we are what we are, but in the rest of the brit islands, they are a massive market that we are allowing top be influenced by downright lies, that mi amigo is wrong on any level you care to think of.

Anyways, had a few tonight so it’s a Sleep well Timland time.

  2. Thanks for the various replies re bevvying on the train on Sunday guys. Although as Jimmy Tarbuck used to say ” we’ve got a difference of opinion, Geoffrey!”

JeromeK 67 : you may be right but I suspect there might be a marked difference in the approach by Police Scotland in how they deal with scottish rugby fans on a train and “tarriers” with Celtic scarves on their way to celebrating another championship win!

I would tend to discount your experience as typical of what tims might experience on Sunday.

The Helensburgh to Edinburgh train that I get from Dalmuir to Bellgrove for all our home games, is full of West Dunbartonshire Tims wi cans and bottles of alcohol drinking in the presence of transport police and Scotrail inspectors no problem. Don’t see why there would be a problem on the same train this Sunday morning to Haymarket.

  4. Video referees are t,o be welcomed but Scotland will of course find ways to,misuse it and use in inconsistently in favour of one team…….

  5. Hi Paul67,

You are quite right, what a milestone that game turned out to be… in what was a test game, we saw two game changing decisions changed.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that as the Corrupt Heads of Failing, Football Governing Bodies have been removed, the desire for the accurate and transparent application of the rules has increased.

This well overdue enhancement to Football Officiating is very welcome.

It will be a revelation in Scotland.

The SFA and the huns will try to repel this concept of fair play. All us Tims want a level playing field. This video ref could be the answer to my dreams.

Cheers, that is interesting. My boy has just spoken to a young lad who recently joined the police. He said you can’t drink on trains if you’re going to a match but it’s not always enforced.

So it seems to be a bit of a gamble. One my boy has decided to take.

I’ll let you all know how he gets on……

Might be a tall task to stop a few hundred happy, friendly, laughing Tims fae West Dunbartonshire, drinking a couple of cans each on route to Paradise every 2nd week on the train. Two transport cops and one ticket inspector usually join in our fun and songs. :)

“Walk with Shay, the Celtic Way” was dreamed up by cartuja from KDS. He does all our design work and posters for free and was also the man that came up with the name ” The Kano Foundation” and designed their logo FOC as well. One of many fine men behind the scenes.

What I found most interesting was Lenny`s first statement.

The guy ” tried to break his leg ”

Maybe he was still riled about the broken leg of Coleman , the Irish player.
