‘WE LED FROM THE BACK,’ BRENDAN

BRENDAN RODGERS praised his Celtic defence following the 1-0 win over Neil Lennon’s Hibs at Parkhead yesterday.

Leigh Griffiths, who scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Partick Thistle on Tuesday, was on target again as the champions overcame the Easter Road outfit.

But it was the rearguard the Hoops boss hailed after the victory that kept them 11 points ahead of Aberdeen at the top of the Premiership.

He said: “Hibs are a good side, they’re a very good team. They haven’t lost many games and they normally get good results, especially away from home.

“Having played against Neil’s teams three times before this game, I felt if we defended well we’d have a great chance of winning the game.

“We played well in the other games, but at times haven’t defended well.

“That’s how it turned out. We had chances to score more than one goal and we restricted them to a counter attack in the first-half.

“Our organisation was good and we’re disappointed that we never took more chances in the game.”

The win coincided with Rodgers’ 100th game in charge of Celtic and he added: “My time here so far has gone very quickly.

“You’re playing so many games and, of course, as I’ve said before, it’s a real privilege to manage the club.

“The expectancy is to win, and this was a really good win for us. It’s the scrutiny that you’re under here at the big clubs and the expectation and it was a good win on the 100th game.

“We now move to Tuesday against Hearts and, hopefully, we get another three points.”
