We might begin looking like a team on Saturday

852

I’m sure Ronny Deila has used the international break to take in as many scouting games as possible, but he’ll be keen to see his players return to Lennoxtown, fit and available for selection.

Adam Matthews spoke to Celtic media on possibly returning for Saturday’s game against Ross County.  Having not played since August he’ll be well short of match fitness but his presence is badly needed.  We have a must-win Europa League game against Astra next week, with the shape of the team looking so haphazard at the moment it’s crucial we get a benefit of a recognised right back.  Adam needs an hour on Saturday.

Now that central mid is looking solid with Brown and Johansen, the addition of Matthews and McGregor will benefit the right, while allowing Mubarak to fit into his more natural position on the left.  We might begin looking like a team.  Adam also has the engine to play the football Ronny is keen on.

The only question remains how to get our Europa League-eligible strikers looking the part – and that’s not a suggestion to drop John Guidetti on Saturday!

  1. It’s time we stopped listening to the press and started supporting Ronny.

We are 8 league games into the season, win our game in hand and we are 3 points off the lead.

Given that the press are trying to sell us that the roof has fallen in it’s not that bad. New managers take a while to settle and find their best eleven.

On top of that the CEO was very slow to sanction any signings. Failing to make the champions league is the fault of Peter Lawwell. OK the last 10 mins in Warsaw were not good but he had lost his skipper and had no new signings to speak of.

We are top of our Europa League section and have won our Cup banana skin tie against a spirited Hearts.

OK – we’d like to be top and flying but we need to give the guy a chance.

The press have suddenly annointed St. Neil the man who they never ever showed in print without a scowl on his face. Funny that – no disrespect to Lenny but it’s just the way the press love to line up against us.

Against Zagreb we were clearly lacking fitness in the last 20 minutes so we should support getting highly paid players fit enough to compete for 90 minutes. But what do we get – chipgate.

I am not a Ronny convinced man but I want to at least give him a chance, nothing would make me happier than a domestic treble and a good run in the Europa League to shut the press up.

Regardless of perceived quality, if you have more of the ball and more shots but lose to counter IMO you are not being swamped

    ——

occasional ‘swampings’ in midfield leading to opposition goals lead to defeat when we’re not scoring enough ….or at all….at that point the ‘quality’ of our possession/shot on target does become an issue – surely, surely!?!?

King and Sevco seem a perfect match.

Tax dodging is a way of life.

Mendacity is one of their chief virtues.

    ——

And the reaction of the Scottish media – fawning sycophancy. If King were associated with any entity other than Sevco, the above judgement would be used to discredit and ridicule him at every turn. He wouldn’t be able to leave the house never mind South Africa.

  5. Looks like 10 in a row is over, Dave King has rode into town on his charger to save sevco ( no laughing at the back ) HH

  6. Jamesgang,

‘occassional swampings’ made me laugh. Dunno why:)

Sounds like he’s a wee bit dead.

Don’t know where the four midfielders stuff comes from, but three would be a start.

Then we might not get caught on the break because the full backs are further forward than our wing wonders who aren’t even wing whingers.

i know that british military officer types use the term to describe getting so hammered they wet the bed.

i don’t think that too many of them post on here so I’m using the term in the ‘only 2 good ghuys in midfield against pure hunners of baddies’ context!

  10. Respect to Paul for creating the forum for the masses….

But today’s post is seriously misguided.

If we begin to look like a team, on the basis of the right back position… then I’m sorry, I must have been watching a different team thus far this season

  11. Awwy Wamont – positively priapic.

Answer is Yes actually 163 million as of December 2013.

    Lost 50 million last year.

Do they think they have stepped up in signing NFL?

Could you offer your words of wisdom, on how outwith 1 game this season, we have not looked like a team playing as a unit and played poorly , not winning consistently

    I. Would be interested

Incidentally, I believe Biton and Henderson would be a far more creative midfield pairing, both comfortable on the ball and can find a pass, added benefit of Biton protecting the defence, as would Brown and Johansen playing slightly wider ( protect full backs)

With the added bonus, both Brown & Johansen work rate would support front 2.

Commons just in front of this midfield also creates, and supports a centre forward, who plays through the middle

    Just my opinion mind :-)

    Hail Hail

  14. Johansen is a terrific player…when played in a midfield 3…and aslong as he aint gotta be top man…top man he shrinks….

  15. Always think the Soldier’s Song is a much better anthem than ours. But I feel the Germans played it more as a dirge. Still, I would be delighted if we changed to Scotland the Brave.

  21. Bada Bing,

    nope I have not.

What I see is a manager who desperately wants to play 4-3-3 but his best attacking player will never ever fit into that. Kris Commons is a tip of a diamond. Kris is simply too slow for 4-3-3

So what he is going is overly tinkering.

I am not saying I am there yet but I want to give him every chance.

  22. Cowiebhoy – you may well be right.

My issue is that, to my eyes, the performances with the exception of Legia away have been very, very similar to the performances under WGS and NFL.

    Yet, RD is getting hammered.

We then have people saying Hamilton ran all over us. Total rubbish.

I broke down the results / performances / squad available previously.

If looking at that, I doubt Neil or Gordon would have delivered better performances in the SPL.

Results may have differed as the numerous chances we had in all those games may go in on different days but I doubt you would see us in much more ‘control’ of the game under with boss
