WE MUST HAMMER IMPS,’ TIERNEY

KIERAN TIERNEY is determined to play his part in Celtic’s revenge mission against Lincoln Red Imps at Parkhead on Wednesday.

The left-back and his team-mates were stunned as the semi-professionals won 1-0 in Gibraltar in the Champions League first leg qualifier on Tuesday.

But the defender is convinced the Hoops will hammer their opponents in the return game and bring the feelgood factor back to the club.

Tierney said: “The Gibraltar result is still hard to take in. It was not ideal at all, but it has gone now and we are just focusing on the next leg and going through. Could I believe what was happening? You had to because it was happening!

“Last Tuesday just wasn’t our night whatsoever. There are no excuses that any of us can offer. We had a few chances, but the ball didn’t go in the net.

“The surface was definitely the worst I have played on. But we should still be winning. There are no excuses. Both teams played on it and I was so gutted after the final whistle. The plan in the second leg is to win convincingly.

“We need to go out there with the right mindset to ensure we beat them and go through to the next round.

“We should definitely be scoring a lot of goals when we play them at home.”

The Scotland international defender added: “We had a good training camp for two weeks and wanted to put in a good performance, but it didn’t happen for us. It was weird. It was one of those nights that can happen to anyone.

“But we can put it right in the second leg on our own pitch. It is half-time. We have to play our best in the next half and give it 100 per cent on the night.”
