‘WE NEED YOUR HELP,’ CRAIG GORDON

The Hoops have dropped six crucial points in the stalemates against Hamilton and Dundee to open the door again for Aberdeen in the title race.

Derek McInnes’ side, after their 1-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice, are now only four points adrift at the top of the Premiership with 10 games still to play.

The champions were jeered by their frustrated supporters at the interval and full-time during their dismal goalless performance against Dundee in midweek.

Skipper Scott Brown agreed the followers had every right to vent their anger after the team’s lacklustre display.

But veteran keeper Gordon hopes the Hoops faithful rally round – starting with the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Morton at Parkhead on Sunday.

He said: “I can understand the fans’ displeasure, but we need as much as help from them as we can get, as well.

“Against Dundee, we didn’t make a lot of chances and, at home, that is most disappointing.

“It’s a collective thing. As a team, we just didn’t play particularly well.

“We just didn’t seem to get going. We didn’t play with a great deal of tempo to our game and, as a result, we didn’t create.

“Now we have to get back winning and to make sure we get through to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

“After that, we can concentrate on the league and picking up the points we require to win the title once more.

“We’re ready to go again against Morton and, hopefully, give the fans something to cheer. But we do need their full backing, too.”

Gordon admitted he was ready to play his part after being rested in the 1-1 draw against Hamilton on Friday with Belgian Logan Bailly deputising.

The Scottish international, speaking on Celtic TV, added: “I missed a couple of days’ training last week and the manager decided to take no chances.

“That was fair enough, but it was good to get back against Dundee and there are no problems with my fitness.

“From a defensive point of view, it was a clean sheet, but, obviously, we wanted a lot more than that.”
