We Shall Not Be Moved

674

Was it really almost 15 years since the only time Celtic beat reigning European champions?  A late goal from Scott McDonald in October 2007 was enough to secure a 2-1 win over Milan in the Champions League.  Two other Scottish clubs had already achieved this (Rangers and Dunfermline, both who beat the 1967 European champions), recording a mark the great Stein sides never did.

The reason I mention this to you is that in the days that followed we were glowing in our new European status.  Then we visited Fir Park.  It wasn’t even Motherwell we faced, it was Gretna, a team from 90 miles south of ML1 who did not have the facilities to compete in the top flight, so travelled the M74 for home games.

Gretna were leading until 85 minutes, when goals from Chris Killen and another late McDonald winner calmed our nerves.

We are now glowing at our great win and performance on Wednesday night.  ‘We shall not be moved’ from the top of the league is the claim.  I heard the same chant from Dingwall on Saturday when Newco took a 2-3 lead; chants don’t win points.  The next game is always the biggest one and for Celtic, the next two, both on the road, are crucially important.

Players are not machines, they cannot climb the mountain every time.  There will be an inevitable fall off in adrenalin at Fir Park.  There are 14 games remaining, seven away from home, every one a cup final in itself.  An acre of Lanarkshire is the stage for our next trophy.  Win and keep belief alive that not by the Hearts, the Hibs or the The Rangers, we shall not be moved!

    …………………

It may only be a matter of ” Time” before that CHUMP ” JHB” Posts something that you disagree with and you respond to him ?

If or WHEN that day comes, I will enjoy watching some Chump on Chump “Action” on here.

YOUR NEW Friend is a LIAR…and proved it last night when HE Posted that ” He will say the same things that he Posts on here, to someone FACE to FACE” .

Some time ago he stated the VERY SAME on here, and one Poster offered to meet him ” Face to Face” to discuss matters……YOUR NEW Friend FAILED to respond, and STILL that hasnt stopped him REPEATING his ” Face to Face” LIE/CRAP once again.

  2. Im trying to remember the MONIKER of the Poster who offered to meet with ” JHB”…But I cant be sure…apart from…. I THINK his Moniker only consisted of 4 or 5 letters ?

Should maybe clarify that I assume Beaton is Lanarkshire based because he was drinking in that rangers bar in bellshill.

Maybe he isn’t Lanarkshire based and travelled there?

    Worse still if he did.

    —————————————————————

Beaton was born and went to school in Motherwell

  5. So, who would win in a game between our tallest team:

    Hart

    Ralston

    Julien

    Bitton

    Scales

    McCarthey

    O’Riley

    Rogic

    Forrest

    Giakoumakis

    Jota

    and our weeest team:

    Bain

    Juranovic

    CCV

    Welsh

    Taylor

    Soro

    Ideguchi

    Hatate

    Abada

    Kyogo

    Maeda

And how many from each team will be in today’s team?

  6. I don’t see why there has to be a drop off in adrenaline Paul. We have a big squad all fighting for a place and with a manager who is relentless in encouraging the type of fast attacking football we all love. I think Ange is getting close to his dream a large interchangeable squad. Against newco we lost momentum but that was because of the intensity of the first 45 AND the inevitable changes – Maeda (on, after his travels) in place of Giakoumakis, Abada replaced by Forrest, McCarthy on for Hatate. It was the lack of attacking thrust that let newco into the game.

For Motherwell, I would guess the team who played newco could play the same way for the same length of time. But Taylor might get a rest so I expect Stiles to start, O’Riley might also get a rest so expect Rogic to start. Maybe Abada will also get a rest and expect Forrest to start. But those replaced will all come on later if things not working out. Nir Bitton I don’t think will start but will come on later if Calmac is still up for it. Same for Anthony Ralston. We are kind of spoilt for choice but some players aren’t up to their peak yet or have the intensity of the players personally selected (not just signed) by Ange.

Motherwell will make it tough. I really want big GG to start scoring. He contributes so much and he’s so enthusiastic in congratulating whoever scores. I want the guy to get a hat trick and set the his talent free for the rest of the season.

Like that post mhate, feel there’s goals in big Gio but hate the unlucky

  8. Woody Le

That would be an interesting game.

Best 2 teams in Scotland as Tom English is want to opine about our rivals.

‘I was actually sat amongst 30 or so English in west stand. It was fun at the end. I had let them know my thoughts on swing low sweet chariot. My stare and mouthing racist scum probably gave it away.’

    ####

You maybe want to look into the history of why they sing that song. There’s no suggestion in any of the various competing theories that suggest racism as a motive, if anything it’s the opposite.

English rugby fans are probably mostly fuds, but they’re not necessarily racist. Much the same as Scottish rugby fans.

  10. Ernie

So you think it’s a good thing they continue in their ignorance ?

I actually think you are talking shite. How many England rugby games have you been to ?

The level of supremacist racist and entitled crap that comes out at twickers after a few bottles beggars belief.

  11. BURNLEY78 on 6TH FEBRUARY 2022 11:43 AM

So are you claiming that ENGLISH rugby union fans are racist because of what?

    They sing a particular song?

    Or other stuff?

Love the idea though that another person’s sense of entitlement offends you.

  12. CELTIC: Hart, Taylor, Starfelt, Giakoumakis, Abada, Rogic, Carter-Vickers, Maeda, Hatate, McGregor, Ralston.

Subs: Bain, Bitton, McCarthy, Jota, Johnston, O’Riley, Forrest, Welsh, Juranovic.

  13. Hart, Taylor, Starfelt, Giakoumakis, Abada, Rogic, Carter-Vickers, Maeda, Hatate, McGregor, Ralston.

Subs: Bain, Bitton, McCarthy, Jota, Johnston, O’Riley, Forrest, Welsh, Juranovic.

  14. As we approach today’s game, I wonder how after a series of single-goal victories against lower opposition, where in some cases we were hanging on at the end, that we suddenly produce a three-goal, going on six, win against the league-leaders, supposedly the best team in the league.

Well of course the most obvious answer may be that the Ibrox team did not employ the ‘low-block’ with everyone almost always behind the ball. That allowed us to use our superior passing & quick movement (Ange ball, if you like) to open them up. This I submit was the reason Reo was able to score his two from outside the box. However like other games this season, we did have a number of missed chances inside the box.

Our failure to convert these close-range good chances has dogged us all season. If we’d taken them against Livi(x2), St Mirren & Dundee Utd, we’d be ten points ahead at this time.

We will not get space to play afforded to us at Motherwell, so let’s hope that confidence and impetus from Wednesday night pushes us to convert more of the chances we create.

Having said that, none of us will be too distraught if 1-0 is the final score and we’re four points ahead – but a couple of goals in each half would be nice. HH

  15. 4 – 3 – 3 today….that’s interesting. Jota, Riley & Juranovic on the bench to maintain tempo & ensure no ‘sag’ in the second-half maybe.

  16. Squad is now looking very impressive with Ange having options to partially rest players, no arguments about the team selected with plenty pace upfront, be right on it from the start and I think we will win comfortably. Good luck Celtic, 3 points please
