An away game after a European away game is statistically the most likely time for a team to drop points, so I doubt Brendan Rodgers will tinker with his lineup too much at Ross County on Sunday. As well as three points there may be valuable information up for grabs again for Celtic.
Watch how County shut down space and try to frustrate Celtic. They will not pretend they are Brazil 1970; attacks by the home side will be infrequent and will never resemble the Light Brigade. There will be timewasting, play will be interrupted with fouls when a County player stops in his tracks in front of a running Celtic player.
No one in world football knows these tactics better than Celtic fans. We get to watch them pretty much every week. Even the elites do it. Borussia Dortmund qualified for the Champions League final after a win over PSG achieved with 30% possession and only 20% of the game’s attempts at goal.
If every day is a school day, let’s leave Dingwall on Sunday wiser and with three points.

How about being the muggers rather than the mugs?
What do we want from Celtic?
More than a club ? Definitely.
For many of us : From the cradle to the grave indeed.
Give joy in cost of living crisis. Indeed.
Be all we can be : Absolutely.
Entitlement: Never.
Progress: Yes.
Engagement with tje community : Essential.
A club open to all. : Indeed.
With that we move forward.

I didn’t expect a mea culpa from Brendan Rogers today. That’s not how he rolls.
I fully expect he’ll adapt his tactics for Atalanta.

____________
The game is corrupt beyond belief. To address that we need to split all gate money 50 – 50 and give the Huns 8,000 tickets for Parkhead and Celtic fans 7,000 for Ibrox.
Souness and Murray brought the Tory “me me me” approach to their finances and Fergus McCann joined them at the hip to Celtic, warning Celtic fans that “If you don’t buy a season book you won’t get into the 2 big Old Firm games.”
All seating and all ticket are Tory ideas.
A lot folk need to get over themselves to uncorrupt the game.
Paul67 is regularly criticised on here, more often than not by the same folk. If they feel so strongly that he lacks credibility, why bother reading the blog at all? Why not start their own and spout their own views?

I didn’t hear all of our manager’s press conference. The little bit I did gave the impression that he dismissed Chris Sutton’s criticism and said he was going to persist with the same tactics against the likes of Atalanta. I thought that if he really goes ahead with that, we are going to get another hammering.

*absolutely but then again how many of them are hunterlopers or have bought intae the raphael that they spout
As a fan group, we can be fashionably fickle.
We have had 2 consecutive managers who emphasised fast one touch football, a hard press and a high defensive line. Ange’s style excited us when he won a league we feared might not be possible having just lost one by over 20 points. But, we tired of it, not just because of large Euro defeats but because we wanted him to be as exciting in every game as we were in our best (an impossible task) and also because we lost by large margins in Europe too.
Brendan on his return was distrusted by many, because of the way he left last time, but few doubted his ability as a training ground coach. He has proven worthy of that trust with a patient, slow start and a long post Xmas run to a title well won, but …… we still fared poorly in Europe and had a big defeat.
This year we have been great domestically both attacking and defending but we have had vastly contrasting Euro experiences. Our highest ever goalscoring CL Group game followed by a result just as humiliating as last year’s 6:0 loss. After that, only a fool would predict the outcome of our match v Atalanta. Of course the Italians at home should win, but I’d be just as shocked if we shipped 5 or more goals to them as I would be if we beat them. The safer bet is to look at anything from a 2:0 to a 3:1 defeat but, if we perform well or, even, get a result, our mood will change for the following two difficult but not AS DIFFICULT ties at home. Nothing’s been lost but our dignity in German company- we still have a good set of Euro fixtures to negotiate and enjoy.
We cannot hire coaches like Ange and Brendan, and then ask them to be Stein domestically and Herrera in Europe. I know Stein is alleged to have defended once v Dukla in the 67 semi final but no-one has footage of how defensive that was.
If we employed a more defensively minded coach- we’d be wanting him sacked within weeks
A club open to all. : Indeed.
————-
nope,
a club/plc that is open to everyone who can afford it.
£34 a ticket for a kids seat at champions league.
17000 unsold seats for the league cup.
open to all ? give the tickets away to those in need.
I know Stein is alleged to have defended once v Dukla in the 67 semi final but no-one has footage of how defensive that was.

you might have still been away.
jock had done the same against vodvodina, fiorantena, both milan clubs, and several other ties when needed.
i linked to newpaper articles of the times.
we played attacking football mostly, but won several times with defensive tacticals needed.
master tactician, beat the continentals

*well what do you expect him tae say, he didnae do it after the barca hammering but also remember what MON told the players at his first team meting, he said he would NEVER lie to them, but the would hear him telling a lie tae the media and that was the huns were the benchmark, 6-2 comes tae mind after that.
Tuesday was a bad night, a dreadful night. Pretty much everything went wrong. Possibly, other than injuries.
However, I don’t buy the idea that tactics can’t be changed or personnel asked to perform differently.
Teams do it all the time, within the 90 minutes. Subs are used, defences tightened, formations tweaked.
We could have, and we still can, play differently when the opposition demands it.
Full focus on Ross County now. Europe can wait
for those who lived and watched the tema in that halcyon period,
were gemmel, mcneill, connolly, hay , and mcgrain world class defenders ?
might be my schooling but losing 3 or 4 nuthingis a better outcome than beaing beat 7-1.
i am convinced it will come down to goal difference, and we were naive to allow that to happen. if the team was naive and shell shocked brendan lloked like he was going to burst out grretin.
How about a manager who can sing a Champions League song as well as an SPL song?
And how about sacking him when he can’t get his notes out properly to take away the club run by the wee gang hut fae the sheltered village look?
Just back from a chill afternoon in the company of an alcohol free BRRB…aye it happens, Leggy, Iniquitousiv and Auldheid. Stand out photo was BSR in his black n white bumblebee element sporting the compulsory facial hair ;-))

Had to switch off as flashbacks of the Covid season started to enter my mind.
He’s far from perfect, but I’m glad Brendan Rogers is our manager.
what was jocks worst result in european ties ?
3-0 in amsterdam and befica ?
how many times did the team not get beat when away ?

PCS – I don’t read or attach any more kudos to Paul67 than any other blogger. To much history in the last 10 or so years has gone against the narrative set in blog-headers,LNS especially, title stripping for me,more recently Brendans reappointed where imo the blog-leads attempt to
praise the team and omit Brendans impact, especially in turning our season around last year and becoming champions again.
I disagree with your suggestion of disagreeing with lead then go start your own,na that would make it personal,Paul knows its difference that makes our opinion strong,we don’t have to look to see what uniform opinion and no questioning of hierarchy brings.i have total confidence in Paul as a person I just feel at times it’s a reflection at times akin to jock and the Lions without mentioning erm…umm..Jock and that would be silly.
One Celtic PCS.:-))

A wee question from Brendan’s biggest fan here,IF we had Atalanta away in the last game of our section, and we knew that we only needed a draw, how would it play out?
For me, 1977-78.
0-3 in Insbruck.
Although in mitigation, it was a poor Celtic team that year as we had lost Kenny, Danny McGrsin and Pat Stanton from the previous season.
Also, without Kenny, Joe Craig and Ronnie Glavin weren’t the same.
Stivs…Tuesday has been done to death, hopefully Brendan has learned some humility and embraces pragmatism….it remains to be seen…our focus is now on getting a result against Ross County tomorrow

bada, it would dependent on what result atalanta needed.
if a draw or defeat didnt matter to them, we might have a chance.
Saint Stivs on 4th October 2024 7:22 pm
In my humble opinion, Danny McGrain was and George Connolly might have become, but we’ll never know. The others were first class international footballers, but world class is a step above. Alex Ferguson said Celtic had two world class players, Bobby Murdoch and Jimmy Johnstone.
St. Stivs
We lost 3:0 to Wacker in 1978- Jock’s final season
Shipped 3 goals in the opening half hour and lost Andy Lynch with 10 minutes to go.
P67 posts as if he has a personal grudge against Brendan…that’s on him…personally I don’t really care. He provides this platform for us to discuss all things Celtic and for that am thankful…even if some of you are permanently wrong lol 😂

Nite y’all
Agree with Celt55’s assessment- Danny McGrain- definitely- George Conelly- would have been.
But I disagree with Swalex- we had 4 World Class Players- Jinky, Murdoch, Gemmell and Lennox.
Tommy may not qualify as a world class defender but he was a world class player nevertheless.
We will play tighter in Bergamo,no matter what BR said today.Count on it.
He thought his team had the pace to worry Dortmund, but half the team playing below par, which happens, and Dortmund exceptional, which happens, recipe for what took place. No one has mentioned it yet,but what if we had all the team on song, and Dortmund had a stinker, which they had one and a half games of previously, losing 7 goals. As I keep saying, shit happens.Move on.
BelmontBrian…ma bad…I assumed we were due a Saturday league kick-off…WTF is it with all these Sunday games
H.H.
It seems to me that a big majority of posts on here are blaming the manager`s tactics for our heavy defeat. Surely we cannot REALLY judge those tactics if so many players were off form?
On the World Class topic. I feel Danny McGrain was our only world class player.
!!BADA BING!! @ 7:46 PM,
“A wee question from Brendan’s biggest fan here,IF we had Atalanta away in the last game of our section, and we knew that we only needed a draw, how would it play out?”
That is a very good question
Yet the fact remains we have eight games, four at home and four away.
Here’s a thought, let’s change this around, we have Dortmund at home for our second last game in January and we had Young Boys away last Tuesday
Could we really be expecting any points in January?
Would Young Boys away be a must win, and if so how should we have approached the match?
When we meet the teams and whether it is home or away is key, so for me that is a very pertinent question.
The fact is we were lucky to get Dortmund BVB when we did, we were also lucky to get them away.
The three best outfits we play we play away and shouldn’t be expecting any points, it wouldn’t be so much different if we played them at home, so that’s good news
Arguably the three easier teams we face, we have two at home and one away, we already have three points and getting another six will not be straight forward, should we set up not to lose these matches?
The remaining two teams, you feel will determine the success or otherwise of this campaign, Brugge and Leipzig at home, these games will come after the Atalanta game, so presumably we will still be on three points when we face these two home games.
Should we set up not to lose these games?
For me it is simple, play to the teams strengths, that doesn’t mean the tactics can’t change, e.g. that doesn’t mean you can’t play with three CH’s later in game to consolidate a lead/draw like we did at home to Athletico
That means you play the first sixty minutes playing your best game and see where it take you.
Still, let’s hope we have CCV back for Atalanta, cause we certainly don’t have strength and depth in defence
Hail Hail
Around 20 still to get their Superbru predictions in for tomorrow at 3 pm
