We spoil the league

Illustrating the very high regard the business community and people of Barcelona hold Celtic fans, one of the city’s top restaurants, Cinc Sentis have donated lunch for two towards our annual charity causes.

I am assured by our resident food critic (WDH), Cinc Sentis is a fabulous dining experience.  The auction has just gone live – so get a low bid in early – and ends Sunday.  If you’re heading to Barcelona next week, or anytime thereafter, get your eBay bid in here.

Many thanks to Cinc Sentis and WDH.

Read lots yesterday about the vast majority of people in Scotland missing the ‘Old Firm’ games.  Trying hard to inoculate myself against any “bravado” I really don’t see this.  The edge we used to feel when going into the final minutes of a game needing a goal is no longer there, but I’m really not sure that edge is healthy or necessary.

More than this, I don’t know a single fan from another Premiership club who regrets the liquidation of Rangers, or feels their life is enhanced by the presence of Celtic.  Everyone is aware of the harsh reality – we spoil the league.

We do, of course, sell copy, as did the liquidated lot.

  1. The more things change the more they remain the same…..corruption, mismanagement….https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Lanark_A.C.

The orcs will always be with us in some shape or form just not they way they were. After all they are the default football club for probably 70% of the population of Scotland.

Very intrigued with the previous post about McColl and Murray having a breakaway sevco 2 team/club.

Who will play at the bigot dome? Craigie bhoy will be rubbing his hands in anticipation if that scenario comes to pass hehehe

Another previous post asks about the bigot dome safety certificate renewal……have things gotten that bad over there?

I grew up with the ecstasy of humping the orcs when we won and the absolute despair when we lost but after a year without them I ask myself “what was it all about?

It used to puzzle me that we had 10K more season books which meant 10K more sales on everything yet they still spent more than us……until Hector came calling.

What we have now is the just rewards of being honest and diligent in the running of the club.

I DONT MISS THEM AT ALL………

Saw Vaughan miss a 2 foot tap in at the weekend. He did put away a tidy penalty later on mind.

  3. Listening to Graceland by the marvellous Paul Simon at the minute.

He is a wonderful human being when you read about him.

Kinda get the feeling he would be a Hoops fan if born in New Camlachie rather than New York?

  4. Ryecatcher,

Yes, I do mean late 70s.

On the Valves, I think it is a one off, as I don’t think any of the band are still involved in the music business.

From memory , they brought out 2/3 singles, and recorded an album which didn’t get released.

One of my fave Clash gigs was the busking tour, around 1984, when they played outside Dukes Bar in the West End.

No my mate Dougal was in the crowd and jumped on the stage. Joe Strummer let him sing out a song with him. Don’t suppose the bouncers were too impressed.

Having now read further, I note your comment regarding their difficulties with accommodation. Should the need arise at some future date, I would be happy to help in that regard. As you know, Paul has my email address.

Is Mick J a Celtic fan?

I know he appeared in a video with a Celtic top on from 80s, but I wasn’t sure if it was a fashion statement, or to annoy his cousin Grant, or is he one of the chosen ones?

I saw BAD in 80s at Barrowland, and also two years ago in NYC – brilliant band live.

Kev from NZ pointed out the differences in reporting PL’s comments about Rory Bremner and the outcry it caused and the media silence regarding the high heed yins at the top table at the Grosvenor (including wiggy) laughing at child abuse jokes. Unsurprisingly both Dalziel and Macca claimed to know nothing about it and couldn’t possibly comment. Delahunt knew exactly what he was on about (or should do if he ever reads his own twitter account) but chose not to comment. Kev said he was surprised that no one in the media commented on it but it took a caller from the other side of the world to speak about it.

I met Mick after a concert in Derby. I was there in the Hoops. Mick was Celtic minded, maybe not a fan but very aware of our culture. He was more aware of Irish politics. This was just after the Brighton bomb. A very articulate and humble man. I was a teenager in awe of him. :)

The reason the MSM and MH don’t want anyone (including TRFC fans) to understand the version of events disclosed by Hugh Adam on the voodoo economics implemented by Sir David Murray is pure and simple – self preservation!

The story being spun is that up until SDM was duped by CW, everything was ok until he was forced to hand over the club by HBOS/Lloyds for a pound. Up to that point RFC-NIL was, as per Paul Murray, doing everything expected of a club – they were winning things while getting the debt down. Moreover, the findings from LNS and FTT exonerated the club. Only problem is its not true.

Not only did TRFC ensure that they implemented a scheme whereby rules regarding FULL disclosure of ALL payments made to players was reneged on and hidden, but they also refused to set aside money in case the HRMC won the FTT. Since the WTC had been agreed to be settled by RFC-NIL, thus admitting their guilt, this was suddenly taken out of LNS scope for his verdict, making his ruling (which did not exonerate RFC-NIL!) incomplete at best.

So why is it so important to gloss over this and have everyone believe CW was the Bad Yin who did all this to an innocent party and ran away? That up to that point TRFC’s debt was manageable?

Answer is simple – because up to that point, everyone in Park Gardens was up to their neck in it.

No one either at Hampden wants anyone to look under the carpet at the following problems:

    (1) Why despite Hugh Adams public statements, there was no SFA inquiry to ensure RFC-NIL had disclosed in full their payments to the players.

    (2) Why they employed a man (CO) whose fingerprints/signatures were all over documents relating to the WTC regarding Craig Moore/Ronald De Boer and Torre Flo – a case that was ACCEPTED as guilty by RFC-NIL and their lawyers – and a settlement reached (forget for now the ineligibility for the UEFA license as that is another matter!)

    (3) Why was the WTC excluded from LNS?

Perhaps the reason is that all these are connected – simply put, the SFA cannot be shown to have employed the very man who was at the helm of the WTC. Or that it was shown to be complicit in it – after all what other party other than RFC-NIL gained anything by having higher profile players coming to the country that could not be afforded? Only one really – the SFA – with this bigger profile, they were able to be on a bigger footing at UEFA meetings, getting CL finals to be held at Hampden and much more freebies for the SFA brass! Why bite the hand that feeds you?

Why did the SFA’s rules and regulations break down? What has been implemented since to ensure it never happens again?

As my old teacher used to say, if you don’t understand what the problem is, how can you fix it?

Or is it easier not to fix it since that would mean we can bury the problem of non registrations and the involvement of CO on all of this and move on?

Forget all the spinning emanating from MH regarding NewCo/OldCo, Scottish cup games and such.

The real story is in the misgoverning of our game, how it happened, why it happened and what is being done to fix it. This blog should be asking the questions the media does not ask. Let’s ask…..

  23. Tis the season to be thinking about whether you can trust your former partners in crime….

    As Flo-rida says

“Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby

    Let me know

Girl I’m gonna show you how to do it

    And we start real slow

You just put your lips together

    And you come real close

Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby

    Here we go ”

There are 2 types of whistleblowers.

The first type are the ones who have been outraged by the actions of their peers or governments. Clive Ponting, Mordechai Vananunu, Harry Markopolos, Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden are all well known examples. Agree or disagree with their motives, they felt a need to make public what was being hidden. Their crime, in legal terms, was to breach their contracts or a confidentiality agreement.

I’m sure we can all think of information which was important in the context of Scottish Football , which would have remained hidden from public scrutiny if it wasn’t for the actions of individuals who took some risks to expose cheating, corruption and worse.

The second type of whistleblower is the guy who has been waist deep in dodgy dealings . He has either been the leader of immoral and/or illegal activities, or he has been a significant cog in the wheel . Important enough to be able to prove a case that would bring jail sentences and the destruction of reputations.

Barclays Bank just saved themselves £hundreds of millions by turning in their accomplices in crime. They probably felt it was only a matter of time before the truth came out, and best to be outside the tent p*ssing in rather inside the tent being p*ssed on.

Sammy the Bull Gravano, was guilty as sin. He was complicit in just about every crime John Gotti committed. He cut a deal, he effectively got a slap on the wrist for nailing Gotti.

Why did he do it ? Simple really , he realised Gotti was about to turn him in . He was going to be traded for a lighter sentence for Gotti. The instinct for self preservation is usually stronger than the instinct for loyalty.

The UTT will be sitting down early next year, late January, to determine whether MIH ran a tax scam. The Aberdeen Asset judgement must have sent a shiver down the spine of those at the heart of this . What is absolutely certain is all concerned will be considering their options.

Will The Rangers Gotti sell his foot soldiers down the river. Will The blue nosed Sammy the Bull get in first and save his own neck. Will anyone from the various lawyers , accountants, tax advisers and journalists have a crisis of conscience and feel compelled to expose the bad guys.

The question they all have to ask themselves is self preservation or loyalty to someone who may be preparing to save his own skin by setting them up to take the fall, worth the risk.

    Et Tu Brute

“He that has eyes to see and ears to hear may convince himself that no mortal can keep a secret. If his lips are silent, he chatters with his fingertips; betrayal oozes out of him at every pore.”
