We spoil the league

782

Illustrating the very high regard the business community and people of Barcelona hold Celtic fans, one of the city’s top restaurants, Cinc Sentis have donated lunch for two towards our annual charity causes.

I am assured by our resident food critic (WDH), Cinc Sentis is a fabulous dining experience.  The auction has just gone live – so get a low bid in early – and ends Sunday.  If you’re heading to Barcelona next week, or anytime thereafter, get your eBay bid in here.

Many thanks to Cinc Sentis and WDH.

Read lots yesterday about the vast majority of people in Scotland missing the ‘Old Firm’ games.  Trying hard to inoculate myself against any “bravado” I really don’t see this.  The edge we used to feel when going into the final minutes of a game needing a goal is no longer there, but I’m really not sure that edge is healthy or necessary.

More than this, I don’t know a single fan from another Premiership club who regrets the liquidation of Rangers, or feels their life is enhanced by the presence of Celtic.  Everyone is aware of the harsh reality – we spoil the league.

We do, of course, sell copy, as did the liquidated lot.

Cowiebhoy, did you win the award last night? Yer buddy won the award today for crapping out of a drive to Aberdeen for a fish tea and went to fly his kite instead:_))

  4. The digging up of the old hang Mandela stuff is always worth doing, because it illustrates how wrong someone can be. It’s ultimately wasn’t worth a hill of beams to the man himself.

Mandela forgave much much worse than some ABC1’s wearing a slogan t-shirt, and as such he should be an inspiration to us all. I know I don’t have it within me to forgive in the way he did. 30 years of his life stolen? Locked up and beaten. Tortured physically and mentally. I could never let that go.

And it he forgave and forgot.

I think Mandela was the greatest human being alive until a short while ago. The first amongst equals on planet Earth.

When he was released I was in Brussels, in the company of 30 or so Africans, a couple were refugees from SA. I just sat and watched. And learned Such pure joy and happiness.

We could all learn so much from him. Maybe we have already.

CRC, fancy a wee dabble into my world of buying and bottling? I’m looking for two more for a six man syndicate and thought of yourself and Doc.

Drop me an email and I’ll fill you in with the details. I already have three CQN’rs signed up in principle and a cask in mind for a pretty good price. I was hoping to run it past Doc today but he shat oot because of a wee breeze north of Dunblane.

It is sometimes so easy to forget key people an events, and so very easy to completely miss the vision and radical nature of certain people because over the years they are seen as “safe” or “mainstream” or even “establishment”.

Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment at the conclusion of the Rivonia trial on 12th June 1964 and for the next 18 years he would be confined to the prison on Robben island.

At around the same time, a young Belfast born woman by the name of Paddie Bell was asked to join a folk group in Edinburgh where she had been staying. On the first night she played alongside the trio who had invited her to join them at the Edinburgh Festival — the group played in a pub — there were only 8 people in the audience.

By the end of the Festival the pub was packed each and every night with people who had come to hear the folk group.

So here is an early recording of that group from the early 1960’s– clearly not long after Mandela had been imprisoned.

Paddie didn’t sing on this track but this was the Scottish Folk movement in the 1960’s — long before the Bono’s, The Jim Kerr’s, the Geldofs and who have you.

This is Paddie Bell and the Corries Folk Trio— yes originally a trio!

It was the business I work for, and No we didnay, but enjoyed the trip, that was until I left this morning,

Held up with the accident on way oot of Birmingham, air ambulance needed.

Then headed to Manchester, and couldn’t get out of there as that bridge was blocked

Incidentally for those discussing a few weeks ago, there is a brand new stadium just been build right next to the water, as you go over that big bridge at Trafford

Then held up at Gretna, with another lorry blown over

Hope all are ok, that were involved in any of those accidents

Home now though :-) 12 hrs later

CRC, it’s been a struggle getting the cask from the bond to the bottler but I’m reliably informed it’s next in line to make it into glass. It’s touch and go whether I’ll have it for Christmas but if the stars align…………….it could just be ready.
