We spoil the league

782

Illustrating the very high regard the business community and people of Barcelona hold Celtic fans, one of the city’s top restaurants, Cinc Sentis have donated lunch for two towards our annual charity causes.

I am assured by our resident food critic (WDH), Cinc Sentis is a fabulous dining experience.  The auction has just gone live – so get a low bid in early – and ends Sunday.  If you’re heading to Barcelona next week, or anytime thereafter, get your eBay bid in here.

Many thanks to Cinc Sentis and WDH.

Read lots yesterday about the vast majority of people in Scotland missing the ‘Old Firm’ games.  Trying hard to inoculate myself against any “bravado” I really don’t see this.  The edge we used to feel when going into the final minutes of a game needing a goal is no longer there, but I’m really not sure that edge is healthy or necessary.

More than this, I don’t know a single fan from another Premiership club who regrets the liquidation of Rangers, or feels their life is enhanced by the presence of Celtic.  Everyone is aware of the harsh reality – we spoil the league.

We do, of course, sell copy, as did the liquidated lot.

  1. Ex Southend centre half Billy Moshead quoted on RM saying that Sevco can match Arsenal’s invincibles season this year.

It defies belief the delusion that Rangersitis creates.

    It really defies belief.

Like comparing Top class French food with third rate Oranges.

There really must be Cognitive issues over at Govan, that nobody else in the world would believe.

It is beyond embarrassing to think that someone actually believes this.

  3. Ryecatcher,

I think it would be churlish of us to mock another Sevconian world record in the making. Its not easy beating teams whose players have just come off the nightshift. Credit where credit is due.

Does the phrase ‘deferred salaries’ sit in any of the paragraphs that a big fat Glasgow Herald erse is sitting on?

Tennents varies greatly from pub to pub for whatever reason.

I dont like it in eg Oneills Merchant city or The Goose, but The Brazen’s my favourite draught lager in UK, that I’ve tasted anyway.

  8. traditionalist88 @ 17:47,

That’s very true, you would think the regular attendees would be more keen on some sort of sequel (actually I think some of the diehard Ibrox visitors do) – than the diaspora.

It could be because it was a genuine big event, put Celtic on the map, so to speak.

Still I’d have a UCL game every time.

    Hail Hail

  9. I’ve been to hundred of Old Firm games, hundreds. I ‘ve enjoyed the highs and suffered the agonising lows but I have to say I really do not miss them one bit. I hated the atmosphere of pure hate and vitrol which was everywhere. Hunman is disgusting, with all their pent up , unjustified hate, ignorance, arrogance and downright corruption of football and all of Scotland. Shameful, that’s what it is. As far as I’m concerned the sooner that low life scum are totally out of football the better, can’t come too soon.

Don’t let the meeja fool you, they bring absolutely nothing to football, never have, never will.

    Rant over

Let’s leave the STEINREIGNEDSUPREME story for the moment, fellas. He has already said that it is subject to legal constraint, which is being argued about.

He has dropped enough hints for most of us to get the drift, and the details will be available to those who can figure them out.

My thoughts, for example, include the possibility that rather than pay a bank their charges for deposits and withdrawals, cash is being funnelled via other routes back and forth.

And not perhaps quite tallying up.

    However,time will tell.

Maybe the Bougherra incident never really happened? That’s two nights shortbread have covered it and not one mention. Can’t imagine there have been no texts/emails. Or maybe they’re just not reading them out? Surely not!!!!!

Only joshing my man…..everyone has different taste buds.

I thought the stuff tasted ok when I was an under age drinker in Glasgow late 70s.

I only had Alpine soft drinks and Creamola Foam to reference it to then.

Tennents Brewery and it’s near neighbour Mothers Pride Bakery always struggled for people to work weekends around the 12th July………

They were all sitting in Duke Street, in the Ballochmyle pub and the Bristol Bar waiting for their buses for the Stranraer to Larne ferry.

Hated Tennents Lager and Mothers Pride after witnessing this up close.

  19. Touching on a couple of items mentioned here:

One Saturday night I was watching Sportsreel or Scotsport, I was still at school at the time which is why I was at home. The deid team were playing kilmasonic at ayebroke and the wee bunion aka wullie henderson was running amok. My mother, who was well read and educated, was in the living room doing her ironing when I blurted out “I hate him”, too which she replied “you only hate those you fear son”. Makes sense now as to why they hate us.

Moving on I’m hame on holiday and at CP for the old Glasgow derby, the deid team go one up courtesy of fat boy and he immediately runs tae the dug out and jumps on jock wallace, he’s always been a butt kisser, we equalise in the 2nd half with a Maestro pile driver, that day I witnessed the worst striker that I’ve ever seen play for them, bobby williamson.

It was belting doon that day and we were in the Celtic end close tae the Jungle, absolutely soaked. At half time as they read out the scores the announcer said “Morton v Dumbarton – late kick off. Some punter up the back remarked “they’re still waiting for the tide to go oot”.

The following Saturday I’m doon at the Goldstone Ground in Hove watching Brighton play Blackburn Rovers. A young Dean Saunders is in the home side as was former Spurs player Gary O’Reilly while Blackburn have NI internationalists Noel Brotherston and Jimmy Quinn.

It was a gorgeous early September day and I’m sitting there with a short sleeved shirt, sunglasses on and a pint or 3 in my hand. After the game Mrs. TT says to me “did you enjoy that” to which I relied “aye, but I would rather have been at Easter Road the day”. We won 5-1 BTW after losing on penalties at the same venue in the League Cup midweek in a game that finished 4-4.
