We want a win, but let’s not kid ourselves

964

We are almost week on from Morton (our only mustn’t lose game in March) but there will be a business-like atmosphere around Lennoxtown today as the team prepare to go to Ibrox, scene of three consecutive wins since Newco were promoted to top flight football.  Brendan and his players are all too aware of the big talk coming from Murray Park.  If ever they needed motivation, they didn’t need to look far.

Fans of either colour, who have been around long enough, will recognise the occasion, but this is not the way you and I used to feel about going to Ibrox.  Back in the old days I preferred to go there as slight underdogs, which was often as good as it got for Celtic fans.  Now, we travel to every ground in the country as strong favourites, no matter what our form.  This is nothing like it was in the pre-liquidation years.

I want to win, of course, but I would have been devastated if we’d lost to Morton.  Sunday’s game cannot reach me the same way.  This is a step on the road to what will hopefully be a treble, don’t pretend it is about winning the league, it’s just not.

It’s funny but I know a lot of Jambos who are thoroughly decent, non-sectarian guys and some Hibs fans who I wouldn’t want to share a beer with.

However, I still want Hibs to win every time they play.

    Almore.

Probably watch it at home myself. But text me anyway.

Wife just back from some International Women’s Day conference in Belfast so she is starting into the ironing backlog while I watch football. Bloody feminists!!!

  4. G64: ‘Squaddies on the Frontline’ is a programme I recently recommended people on here to watch. Very good insight into ordinary british soldiers views of their role in the conflict in Ireland.

  7. That awkward moment when Brendan might just have discarded Scott Allan a wee bit early.

On current form I would be far from happy if Sevco somehow managed to secure his services in the summer.

And that McGinn fella is definitely worth the watching!

I was trying to answer points that were made by others – which isn’t easy right now because my laptop is malfunctioning and so I can’t see what I am actually typing until its posted.

Madman – you keep on posting your point of view and I doubt we are as far apart in opinion as you think. If Scottish Football doesn’t shape up lots of people will walk away from the whole shebang and I will be one of them because you can’t stand for corruption but I do believe that it won’t come to that.

I think I am saying more than that I hope things will be ok. That is based on being here in Scotland and having a fair amount of contact with people within our club and others. It is the others who give me most confidence because i listen to them talk about their attitide and how it differs from years ago.

What would I have said to Bob Kelly?

I would have said to him that he should fly the tricolour in any event no matter what the SFA said.

Celtic Park belongs to Celtic – who are the SFA to say that Celtic or any other team for that matter cannot fly a national flag – an internationally recogniseable flag.

Kelly won the day because that was just another example of all bark and no bite and he rightly stood up to them.

Where we totally disagree is that I ansolutely and wholly believe that the east end of Glasgow is the route and trunk of Celtic Football Club.

The east end in particular, and Glasgow as a whole, is far more than just a branch, or an offshoot or a temporary residence. We are Glasgow Celtic. We were conceived and born here. it is our spiritual home and i would like to think we will remain true to our roots rather than cut and run to play under some kind of flag of convenience somewjere else just because it is easier or because it might put more cash in the bank.

    Signing off for the night.

By the way if we play to our strengths we will be the Govan lot hands down.

They are no more than an occasional distraction and a permanent irrelevance as far as I am concerned.

Well done Hibs. There’s a decent chance Levein starts talking about Scott Brown again in his pressers.

Speaking of squirrels, are there any media types out there who can explain the ‘Morales news’? I recall news of their ‘approach’ for McInnes broke at 7.30pm on the evening we played Anderlecht and were likely to qualify for the Europa league play=offs.

I always thought squirrels were released to deflect post bad news. Why before? Having the financial clout to rebuff 11 million offers is something I thought they’d keep up the sleeve for Monday to deflect from another pumping.

What has changed in the world of media management?

WITS/T&T – Casa Tall is going for the Fred Winter. Sorry for giving you a bum steer.

  12. Celtic should transfer Scott Allan to Hibs as part of a move for McGinn, who although will never be CL type class he is exactly what we need to assist Scott Brown, as its the SPL we play in for the majority of any season, and what generates the revenue for continuous tilts at Europe.

10 in a row will be won in Scotland not Europe,so build accordingly. Sign McGinn, get Celts in the team.

Did I tell you that I found myself speaking at a Masonic Dinner a couple of weeks ago?

I thought it was a totally different type of dinner and didn’t know I was meant to be speaking at all until i found myself sitting next to two men who I learned were the honerable master and the provincial grandmaster, both of whom asked me to reply to a toast in memory of someone whom i didn’t know!

I was pretty surprised, but not as surprised as the 50 or so Masons when i told them that i was a Celtic fan within the first 20 words of my address!
