Weah has opportunity, for now

152

St Mirren have earned only 12 points from 21 games this season but one of these came in the 0-0 draw with Celtic at Paisley in September; the champions have a score to settle tonight.  St Mirren rescued a 0-2 deficit against Alloa in the Scottish Cup on Saturday but have suffered five straight league defeats to Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, Motherwell, Aberdeen and Livingston.

Football is not always straightforward, but Brendan Rodgers will demand his players take all three points tonight.

With Odsonne Edouard returning to fitness, Leigh Griffiths on sabbatical and Vakoun Issouf Bayo awaiting clearance, I expect we will see Timothy Weah start tonight, after his scoring debut from the bench on Saturday.  Within a month the striker position is going to be heavily contested, but for now 18-year-old Weah has the ball.  I expect him to make the most of the opportunity.

Enjoy the game.

If our transfer business is finished at least January 2019 has given us new reasons for not signing defenders:

‘We have enough unsuitables already and they’re our unsuitables!’

But hey Lustig played at CB once so we’re fine. Maybe we can get Tam Boyd back to cover RB as he played right back a few times!

Increible, as they say in Valencia. Who incidentally will probably take full advantage, despite their struggles in La Liga. With the exception of their last match like most La Liga sides they play the ball on the deck. They took 4 pts out of 6 against Man Utd and passed them off the pitch at Old Trafford for 50-55 minutes.

Need a minimum 2 goal win to give us a chance in Spain. What chance with a crippled or makeshift defence?

Best wishes to Leftbackagain’s , prayers said for your family, from a bhoy from the brig.

  3. I hope Tim starts tonight. Having so many Home games coming up gives a good opportunity for new players to fit in quickly.

Apart from after an 8-0 victory, I wonder if I will ever read ONE page of comments which are either neutral or positive about my team?

Constructive criticism I can accept ( whilst questioning the credentials of the critic) but constant putting down of our team really is a pain.

I am really looking forward to tonight`s game.

PS Do freezing temperatures affect artificial surfaces?

  4. Tim Weah from the start would be great. Think they’ll be a lot of Celtic players out to prove a point this evening… Will be good to win playing with, pace and flair…

Sevco Rangers have a tricky match at Kilmarnock…

If they drop points and we get the win, we will end their almost 4 week, record breaking run at the top (joint).

    Hail Hail

  5. Better minds than mine will need to fathom out who advises Neil on certain matters,…… who knows….maybe he thinks aligning himself with the blazers is a good thing. If that is indeed what’s occurrin’.

  6. Chairbhoy

I am being a tad pedantic here but they are not joint top. We are top, they are second.

At least I think that`s the case !

If the title were to be awarded today, who would be declared the Winners as it stands?

If we sign Shved does that give us a shed load of wingers, should keep the whingers happy though.

    Anyhoo…

On to tonights 4 extra jumpers and 2 pair of socks game tonight for us not in the standing curve..

    4 nuffin the hoops.

  8. I reckon that Celtic will be the only team in the top 6, who will gain 6 points in the two games this week. Three wins against Perth Saints and Treble Treble is close.

  9. Just been watching the videos of Maryan Shved, the latest player strongly linked to us.A right winger with a hammer of a right foot.Great goals and assists record.

Have look and see some stunning goals.Around 2 million.I know he is not a right back.

  10. HOT SMOKED @ 10:06 AM,

Yes, was a bit tongue in cheek… it was the SMSMs BBC et al, declaration after the Ibrox match that they were now joint top…

…no such claim was made about Kilmarnock a few weeks earlier when Sevco were top on goal difference;)

My Prediction… the Compions will be top of the league tomorrow…

    Celtic 4 – 0 St Mirren

As long as he scores more than we concede from our right back area we should be alright then! :-))

Maryan Shved once turned down Valencia to sign for Sevilla, per Wikipedia. So probably didn’t then.

  13. TRADITIONALIST,

I agree ,we need a right back, but who.We are still in the hunt for our two targets,so have to wait until nearer the deadline. As far as I know,or read,we have offered the correct money, but both players not too keen on Scotland.Quelle surprise.Brendan himself said very difficult to get the class of player required. It is what it is.I dont think its for a lack of trying.

Waiting on an excellent post from SOT,on the Castagna guy.If no one comes in,we may still land lucky.

” 4 extra jumpers and 2 pair of socks” You`ll be able to don 50 shades of green tonight :-)

Yes. I had forgotten the fact that Killie were never Joint Leaders !

I hope, come tomorrow, we and not the Compions are top !

    Cheerio for now.

Like your prediction of 4-0 so much that I am going to invest a few shillings at Willie Hills on that score.

    Weah 4-0 scorecast too. Cheers

  16. Our problems haven’t been conceding too many goals, its been lack of scoring chances and goals against livi, Hibs, Motherwell and the currants, recently at least.

If we sign Shved that’s 4, hopefully decent, new additions to give us more options

  17. HOT SMOKED @ 10:25 AM,

Anyone but them… but I’d settle for us:)))

    DELANEYS DUNKY @ 10:26 AM,

    Racing certainty I’d have thought..;)

…glad you had a blast in the Dam.

    Hail Hail

  18. Like the look of Shved, terrific options to mix things up from the bench. He reminds me of a Paddy Roberts but with a fiercer shot.

Weah, Odsonne and Sinclair on the left.

Forrest, Shved and wee Mikey on the right.

Big Bayo in the middle with Leigh as a back up.

Upgrades on Hayes and Morgan. I think we might see Burke more central, in a Stuart Armstrong kind of way but with bigger thighs and less beautiful hair.

Would a wee cheeky RB arriving be too much :)

    Mon the Hoops.

No smoke without fire as they say, the Castagne one hasn’t gone away. At least we are (seemingly) casting the net again with some of the moves.

Come next week I hope there is no sense of the frustration felt in the summer by the manager.

I’m coming into the Blane Valley on friday to meet up with Richie & hopefully BT,It would be great to see you again.

  23. In reality,up to this point we have signed a permanent deal Bayo, the other 2 are loanees,so if buy another winger fine it means we’re building a team for next season,as for a Right back,I may watch Kilmarnock v Sevco, don’t normally watch that mob,I will pay particular attention to Killie back O,Donnell, personally I think the guy is ok,but we will see,and punt Morgan and Hayes up to Aberdeen,in a deal to sign McKenna, just my opinion.

  24. We should continue complaining until the Catman or Lennybhioy come on with their white smoke machine puffing furiously.

  25. I don’t expect Weahto start tonight. If Ralston is not fit that would be the only change. Except we know Gordon has the number 1 jersey for league games.

Every other position will be as you were.

Bringing Weah on against tiring legs and more space seems like the ideal way to continuing his integration with his team mates.

    ========

Starting him against one of the leagues weakest sides, at home, particularly when we do not have an abundance of options, wouldn’t be the worst decision.

The lad is itching to get started. And given the issue with the pitch, he may be itching afterwards, too.

  27. Celtic are on the brink of sealing a £1.75m move to sign Ukrainian international winger Maryan Shved after his club left him out of their winter training camp to complete the deal.

The 21-year-old Karpaty Lviv ace has a clause in his contract that allows him to move to foreign clubs for €2m, giving Celtic the advantage over Dynamo Kiev, who are also interested.

And his club have confirmed he is in advanced talks for a move after they excluded him from the squad for their winter training camp in Turkey this week.
