Weah has opportunity, for now

152

St Mirren have earned only 12 points from 21 games this season but one of these came in the 0-0 draw with Celtic at Paisley in September; the champions have a score to settle tonight.  St Mirren rescued a 0-2 deficit against Alloa in the Scottish Cup on Saturday but have suffered five straight league defeats to Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, Motherwell, Aberdeen and Livingston.

Football is not always straightforward, but Brendan Rodgers will demand his players take all three points tonight.

With Odsonne Edouard returning to fitness, Leigh Griffiths on sabbatical and Vakoun Issouf Bayo awaiting clearance, I expect we will see Timothy Weah start tonight, after his scoring debut from the bench on Saturday.  Within a month the striker position is going to be heavily contested, but for now 18-year-old Weah has the ball.  I expect him to make the most of the opportunity.

Enjoy the game.

  1. WHAT IS THE STARS on 23RD JANUARY 2019 12:41 PM

    Lawwell has to go

    You said it.

  2. Believe it to be very cold in the UK just now.

Here in North America we deal with this kind of chill on a regular basis during winter. The further north you are the colder it gets.

One huge difference is how prepared we are to deal with such.

I have an office on 42nd st beside Grand Central station and i know that when i walk out the station to go the 100 yards to my office the streets will be salted and cleared.Shops and businesses are liable for accidents on their immediate sidewalk and the ever present threat of litigation has them afraid.

It’s the same in Connecticut where i live.

Even in the worst weather the equipment and manpower is there to keep the roads open.

Because this is relatively consistent the budget for this is included in city and state budgets.

People also dress accordingly as its just not the odd day of bad weather.

In Glasgow my wife is always bemused at the habit of hunching the shoulders with hands in pockets to ward off the winter chills.

  3. Having watched Weah in pre season tournament,he is a lot more gallus than he showed on Saturday.Lovely flicks and one twos.Bags of skill. We need to get him up to speed,Olly also.Only got them till the end of the season.Use them.Would be nice to see Eddy and Weah playing together, hopefully against St Johnstone.Tonight,Calmac,Christie, and Jamsie to supply the ammo.

    Looking forward to this.

  4. FANATIC,

Is that not a dangerous place to work.Every time I watch a movie,or American series, some bassa,or terrorist mob are trying to blow Grand Central up.Get a new office,FFS.

    ==================

Whoooaa, haud the bus there, survey monkey.

Every generation of the Celtic support since the club was formed has sung from this genre of song.

Unless you want to back up your spurious claim with actual data of all the Celtic supporters since 1888 you have surveyed on their singing habits/preferences at matches/at home/in pubs etc.?!!

    Didnae think so.

Ever sung the Fields of Athenry?

HOT SMOKED on 23RD JANUARY 2019 1:29 PM

Most Celtic fans don`t sing at all during the game

    ======

Exactly, so how can anyone put a number on the % that sing rebel songs dating back to 1888…’twas ever thus’ ?!

Certainly against St Mirren at home there won’t be much singing, but against Aberdeen at Hampden there were 30000 Celtic supporters and BOTOB, Roll of Honour and others were given very loud renditions.

Again, not saying all the songs are to my taste either but no point hiding from the fact that rebel songs have always been a feature at Celtic games, some more than others, of course.

Would definitely start Weah tonight. His movement is what we need against teams who sit back and defend.

Another winger doesn’t seem like the highest priority, but it depends on what type of winger he is.

If he can go wide and get crosses in or get to the byline and do a cutback then fine. If he is just going to drift inside into all the congestion then I don’t see the point

  11. Trad88

You got something aginst monkeys ?

We’ve all sang rebel songs just like we’ve all had hot urine on the back of our legs, at CP.

From where I sit now the overwhelming majority no longer join in with any rebel songs,

The Fields isn’t a rebel song per say IMHO

    BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 23RD JANUARY 2019 1:38 PM

Nah chief not monkeys per se, surveys are a different matter.

As Hot Smoked pointed out, many fans don’t sing at all in many home matches, doesn’t mean we can be presumptous that they don’t sing rebel songs at Celtic games. Many don’t sing at CP out of self consciousness because some sections are so quiet.

Look at how a song like Grace took off and reverberates around the ground. Unless you came up the Clyde in a funny shaped boat with Mad Mitch you’ll know what bands sing songs like Grace.

Oh, and nice shift of the goalposts…. the Fields is not a rebel song?! Why, because its got PLC approval and is also a love song?! ‘Against the famine and the Crown’… what were we doing against them, if not ‘rebelling’ ?!!

  13. Paul 67,

Re Your parking comments the other day.

As another yellow ice warning is issued for the Greater Glasgow area we have Meltin John, David Plowie, Slippy McGritty and Grittiest Hits working to keep our main streets clear.

However, who does the pavements and walkways ?. If and when the new parking restrictions come into effect at Parkhead, it will surely lead to reduced attendances when the weather is inclement.

    HH.

PS : My Crystal ball tells me, in the foreseeable future there will be a full scale onslaught on the motorist in Glasgow.

  15. Talking of pee down the back of your legs in the old Jungle reminded me of a wee story.

I was at a game around 1970 and was the height of fashion with a pair of troosers that were 24″ bottoms, or big flares to the uninitiated.

Anyway conscious of the risk of getting the bottoms dirty I turned my troosers up by about 6 inches.

Jungle was mobbed and into the second half there was a smell of burning but noone was really bothered.

At the end of the game I went to turn my hems down when I discovered a smouldering fag end had burnt a big ****** hole in my good trews!

    Gutted a wiz!

Trying to get through the station is becoming a challenge.

The NY police terrorist squad.NY Police,Ny State troopers,National guard and guys in FBI vests have all greatly added to the congestion .

The worst are the wedding tourists posing in 35 ft long dresses for pictures with their entourage and the constant tour guides.

Some Scottish sayings fly right over her head.

    She is originally from Kerala.

Recently we were back in Scotland for a funeral.

We were all sitting around chatting and a lady i went to school with who is a real character came to pay respects.

She starts to tell a story about buying a mass card.

She says i went round to the chapel but that robbin bassa priest wanted 20 quid so a said to him am no subsdising his holidays wae that extortionate amount so a jist went to the Hamiltons and got warn for a quid. She then looked at my wife along with everyone else in the room and said oops.

My wife hadn’t a clue what had just happened especially as i was greatly amused.

When i explained it to her later she thought it was hilarious.

There was no intentional racism just a wee wummin using the vernacular .
