It looks like Lazio did not prioritise the Europa League this week. Only four of their starters against Rennes have started more than half their six Seri A games this season, three have yet to start a league game and one, Quissanga has started only once.
Lazio are a point behind rivals Roma in the league and two points off a Champions League spot.
They visit Glasgow in three weeks then face Fiorentina in Florence, who currently have two points less than them, three days later. The game at Celtic Park might be too heavy a load for Lazio to risk the full first team.
The return leg comes between a visit to Milan, currently 16th (!), and a home game against Lecce, who are one place below Milan.

Whether Lazio play their reserves or not, they are a more expensively assembled group of footballers than we have got.
Immobile cost 9m euros and has been transferred for 18m euros to Dortmund- he is still only 29
Leiva cost £5 million, Berisha 7.5m, Correa 16m, Durmisi 6.5m, Luis Alberto 4m, Bastos 5m, Marco Parolo 4.5m, Milinkovic-Savic 10m, Lazarri 10m, Vavro 10m, Neto 8m, Bruno Jordao 4m, and Acerbi 9.5m, amongst others. Although, we too have a £9m player and a couple of 4-5m players, they have over a dozen of such players. Some of those reserves would be stars with us.
In recent years Lazio in Europe have managed :-

2015/16- Round of 16 Europa
2013/14- Round of 32 Europa

For a team not concentrating on Europe, they have a far superior record to us. As they lie 6th in Serie A with 3 wins and a draw in 6 league fixtures, I have no doubt their strategy will be similar to that of the past decade- Aim to finish high enough in Serie A to be an Italian qualifier for Europe- most likely in the Europa AND go as far in Europa as you can without endangering your league aim. Six of their last 7 campaigns have seen them qualify from their group and 50% of those have seen them get further than our last 32 high water mark.
I will be pleased enough with a home draw against them and absolutely thrilled if we take all 3 points at home.
Just because their fans are nasty, does not make me doubt their abilities and experience.

It seems strange that we used to complain about our alleged Sports Science weaknesses resulting in too many squad injuries and yet one of the World’s big monied clubs is after one of our cogs in that sector.
An element of the Lazio fans are probably nasty … but we probably shouldn’t judge since I think most of us (I know I did) loved Di Canio in the hoops… am afraid he is probably your biggest Mussolini supporter … I just loved Paulo the footballer :-)

I realise that our guys can fetch even more than you speculated upon. Especially with this heated market next to the EPL.
But Lazio do buy many more bigger money buys than we do and, above all else, they achieve more in Europe than we do.
We can beat them but we should not expect to beat them nor think they are not taking the Europa seriously.
