DEREK McINNES got off to a false start in his career at Rangers as the team dropped two points in their 1-1 draw with Dundee United at Tannadice this evening.
Amazingly, it’s the FOURTH successive season the Ibrox club have failed to win their opening Premiership game of the campaign.
Lachlan Rose hit the breakthrough goal for the hosts in the 38th minute when he took a clumsy touch from a low right-wing cross.
The ball deflected towards the bottom right-hand corner of the net and the Govan club’s new keeper, Ivor Pandour, was slow to react to the dange as the effort crept over the line.
However, McInnes’ side were gifted the equaliser in the 56th minute when blundering defender Michael Forbes sent a suicidal header across his own box straight to Thelo Assgaard.
The Dane took a touch to take the ball to his left foot before walloping a shot high past the startled Jack Walton.
Jim Goodwin’s men had the perfet opportunity to seal three points in the 84th minute when Jesse Randall was allowed time and space to run in on goal.
Remarkably, the United player tamely hit the ball straight into the grateful arms of Pandour and the chance to win the game was gone.
It wasn’t the start McInnes had envisaged in another new era at Ibrox.
But it could have been worse.
