Wee Oscar 4 Life bucket appeal nets over £31k

511

The fact that the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign inspired hundreds from the Celtic community to raise money for the treatment of Oscar Knox will surprise no one, but the stunning amount of money raised by the bucket collection outside Celtic Park on Saturday, £31,918.05, is breathtaking.

I know those who decided something had to be done to help Oscar have no interest in our congratulations or respect, but they have it nonetheless. Well done to all who helped on Saturday and to those behind the campaign. You are a credit to our community. Again.

The team released the following statement:

At last Saturday’s Celtic game against Dundee at Celtic Park over 200 volunteers collected money on behalf of the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign as part of the Oscar Knox Appeal.  Wee Oscar’s Green Bucket Army raised an astonishing £31,918.05 in just two hours between 13.00 pm and 3.00pm before the Scottish Premier League game.

This campaign was launched by supporters of Celtic Football Club (the Celtic family) to raise money for Oscar Knox, a four year old boy who has recently been diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma- a rare form of cancer which mainly affects children. All funds raised on the day through the bucket collection will go directly towards helping to fund immunotherapy treatment abroad for Wee Oscar to help him beat cancer for good.

On the day, the campaign team and family were also joined by four supporters of Rangers and one supporter of Hearts. Oscar’s dad Stephen flew over from Northern Ireland and he also brought along some of Oscar’s family. Also taking part were the partners of Celtic players, Lisa Hague (Partner of Kris Commons), Alana Roe (Girlfriend of Charlie Mulgrew) and Debbie Lawlor (Girlfriend of Tony Stokes). Lisa Hague has just been appointed Patron of the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign and commented on the day: “It was fantastic to take part and get involved on Saturday. I was overwhelmed to be asked and amazed at the support offered by the fans. I jumped at the chance to be Patron, even though I am 7 months pregnant, because this charity really stood out to me, not only because of wee Oscar but the level of support from Celtic fans. I’m determined to do as much as I can to get wee Oscar the treatment that he so desperately needs”.

Oscar’s family are from Belfast and Stephen Knox commented: “We are totally blown away with what happened on Saturday, I flew over myself with a couple of friends and I am so pleased that I witnessed the generosity of the fans first hand. In particular I want to thank the entire Wee Oscar 4 Life team who led this campaign and made it happen. I would also like to thank each of the 200 strong bucket volunteers who are playing a huge part in helping to save our little boy’s life.”

Oscar is fighting stage 4 neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer which affects 1 in every 100,000 children. He is currently responding very well to treatment but unfortunately neuroblastoma has a very high relapse rate and so to give him the best chance of survival he needs immunotherapy. This helps to stimulate the immune system, so that if the neuroblastoma was to return, his own body can recognise and attack it. The treatment is not currently available to Oscar in the UK and so the family needs to take him abroad to get it. The treatment is likely to cost up to £250,000. Sadly Oscar was also born with Jacobsen Syndrome, an extremely rare chromosome disorder. There are little over 250 confirmed cases in the world, and as far as we are aware, Oscar is the only child in the world ever to have Jacobsen Syndrome and then be diagnosed with neuroblastoma. The odds of this are about TEN BILLION TO ONE.

  1. Craiginho,

Why is it that I am suprised at the brassneckery every time an employee of Sevco or a former employee of the now-deceased Rangers opens their mouth to defend 12 years of the taxpayer funding their attempts to stop a well-run Celtic dominating Scottish football. From the moonbeams of Murray to the Cardigan’s criticisms of Lloyds, to McCoist’s musings about needing to sign players to beat teams staffed with guys who train on their days off from work. Everything they say is so far removed from reality, humility and civility that I should come to expect it.

Alisatair Johnstone’s bumping of the gums today is fitting from a man who thought it acceptable to use a terrorist slogan in an interview with the BBC. “A breach of procedure” is a jaw-dropping description of tax evasion, a string of unpaid debtors and a sporting advantage that would make Ben Johnson blush.

I should feel delighted that the totem pole of bigotry has been chopped down and that the new totem pole has been erected in SFL3. I should feel pleased that Scottish football fans united to stop any attempts to further subvert the rules and allow Sevco to start in the SPL. But through all of this I just feel flat at the extent of their cheating, the lengths they went to prevent us winning, their lack of recognition of everything they did and the complete absence of anything resembling guilt or remorse.

I remember May 2003 and the heartache at losing the league on goal difference. I’ll never forget the long drive from Portpatrick to Edinburgh saying not a word to my wife after watching Black Friday. And I remember the long walk home from Easter Rd after drawing 0-0 and losing 4 in a row. All of those memories are now made even worse with the knowlegde that they won it with tax evasion and illegally registered players.

If those titles remain carved on Rangers’ tombstone they will have got away with everything in my eyes. I have no doubt that Celtic would have won every title since Martin O’Neill arrived in Glasgow had it not been for Rangers tax evasion and bad debt mountain.

The SPL have to right this wrong or the game is up in this country.

  11. Tx4,

If you are still up. Sorry for the late reply, as Donegal’s homecoming took precedence tonight.

    Nose bleed? High horse?

What are you on about, man?

If ever there was any excuse for a right thinking person to support that club, whether by parental influence, or a need to attach themselves to a “successful” club, even allowing for their historical sectarian policies, then the last year or so should have opened their eyes to what they were giving their allegiance.

I don’t buy the “this thing is bigger than us” type excuse.

Remember, we are talking about decent, right minded people here, not the dregs of their support.

As gedboy7 related tonight, he witnessed people, whom he considered friends, refusing to make eye contact with him, refusing to talk football now, after probably years of exchanging “banter”.

I would be a hypocrite, if I thought any differently from being puzzled how a perceived decent person could identify with that club.

Many people have found it impossible to remain in their birth religion, remain in personal relationships, remain in jobs and careers, when they find their integrity or conscience are compromised.

If Celtic were guilty of even one of the crimes of that organisation, I would not be associated, in any way with them.

If you think that I am sitting tall in the saddle on that, then so be it.

I recognise the Mask when I see it and did so, even when I lived in Glasgow.

  12. EBTs were loans huh?

HMRC have already declared that these were not loans but a deliberate and calculated attempt at paying players their salary using the EBT scheme, for which it is NOT, repeat NOT legal. The FTTT is an appeal against that decision. ie You have already been found guilty. Launching an appeal against that decision does not make you ‘sweet sweet innocent’.

All loans paid through this scheme must have a repayment plan set out.

Not a single penny has been repaid on ANY of these payments to the players.

We have all seen the evidence of the side-letters and other correspondence showing that those involved knew that what they were doing was illegal but went ahead with it anyway.

Further to this, Mr Souness was paid money through this scheme many years after he had left the club.

All of this smacks of corruption & fraud at the heart of RFCia and the SFA.

Perhaps that veil of secrecy, that shroud covering all activities of the masonic masses gave them a sense of security, that they’d never get found out.

No amount of MSM spin nor masonic hand-shaking is going to cover this one up.

    You have been sprung.

Alas, no amount of evidence will ever persuade the diehard, bluenose Sevconians that they aren’t victims of a Tim conspiracy (Opus Dei, Vatican spies etc… – and they call us paranoid!).

I love the term ‘sweet sweet innocence’. Makes them sound like a bunch of little angels doesn’t it.

We all know different. We have seen the hoardes of rabid, hate filled followers of Sevco in action.

Sweet little innocent people don’t go around threatening death and violence on anyone who happens to disagree with them. They also don’t go around wrecking just about every place they visit.

People can say what they like about the SPL missing RFCia or not.

I thoroughly enjoy not having them around. I hope BDO, the FTTT, the fraud squad, the EBT tribunal etc… make sure they never ever arise from the ashes.

  13. To say I am utterly disgusted tonight at Alistair Johnstones so call statement would be the understatement of my life. It is quite astonishing in its attempt to belittle the clear guilt of oldco, to try and steamroller the now mythical continued existence of the huns and to drag everyone else, including Celtic, into the fury.

Celtic now must go on the attack. The SFA and SPL are cowed – but we are not.

If we allow this to happen unchallenged the whirlwind will grow.

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Spartak Moscow midfielder Romulo will miss most of the season after injuring his knee in Sunday’s league match, the Russian Premier League club said on Monday.

The 22-year-old Brazil international, who joined Spartak on a four-year contract from Vasco da Gama in June, tore cruciate ligaments in his knee in a 3-1 win at Rostov.

The defensive halfback will have surgery in Germany, the Muscow club said on their website (www.spartak.com).

Spartak, who host Scottish champions Celtic in the Champions League Group G match next week, have several key players out with injuries, including captain Sergei Parshivlyuk and leading striker Welliton.

  17. Oh, saddo Johnstone, let’s be ‘avin’ you……are we expected to believe an spl player has to plead penury in open court re. the payment of a relatively small fine and asks for time to pay as he only gets £1,000 per week and he has the payslips to prove this?

Oh, saddo Johnstone, either said player was bein’ taken furra mug, he had a side contract well hidden from the court, or it was bungs in envelopes under the table.

Oh, saddo Johnstone, will you please pick from one of the three boxes? Because, as sure as you are full of it, the rank rotten corpse that is rankers in all its guises was bang at it, and the legal hounds of hell are gonnae rip you and it to tiny little pieces.

Oh, saddo Johnstone, depart these shores soon, or be prepared to get torn to shreds in a court of law, you sad grovelling bluenosed grunt.

    MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti)

Spartak Moscow defender Nicolas Pareja has returned to action after a month out with a calf injury, the club said Monday. The Argentina international missed four league games, as well as Spartak’s 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday. “The Spartak players had a training session at Tarasovka today. Encouragingly, Nicolas Pareja returned to the main group,” Spartak said in a website statement.

The announcement came on the same day as Spartak revealed midfielder Romulo could miss the rest of the season with a ruptured cruciate ligament. Additionally, defender Jose Manuel Jurado hurt his hamstring in Spartak’s 3-1 win over FC Rostov on Saturday. After the match, coach Unai Emery said Jurado could be out for three weeks. Spartak said he would undergo a medical examination Tuesday.

Midfielders Kirill Kombarov and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov are both set to return to full training Tuesday after minor injuries, the club said.

That story is 100% true. It was Eidur Gudjohnson if memory serves me correctly. He was being paid £1000 a week, produced the wage slips to prove it in court and thus dropped a bombshell on HMFC … which I believe HMRC have billed them over.
