Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

    TKF Predictor 2012-13

The Kano Foundation are running our usual Predictor Competition once again. This season though it is going to be a fully online version – basically the same idea as the one we ran for the Euros in June.

However as this is is to try to taise some funds for the Foundation we are asking for a small joining fee, details of how to pay etc will be sent to you all once you have joined up. The fee this year will be a one-off payment of just £5.

We had a fantastic response to the Euros Predictor and would love to have a similar if not greater response to this one.

Currently it will be an EPL based Predictor only (they dont so SPL apparently) but we are considering doing a Celtic-based idea, but more on that later.

Anyway it’s dead simple to join up, simply clink the link below, enter the code and you will then be “sent for approval”. Once we do that you can make your predictions and its Game On!

    Pool name: TKF Predictor

    Pool code: gothposh

Be great to have as many of you join up as possible – and as its online, the scoring will be done automatically……no doubt to the pleasure of many of you TKF Predictor veterans!

    Thanks in advance

The campaign for WeeOscar4Life is much larger and I just wanted to give a special mention to these CQN bhoys & ghirls that have already put in tons of work over the last week or 2, as part of the team to enable this to get off the ground. It is more than just BB and CRC!!!

You make an excellent point on Newcastle. They also have a very shrewd transfer policy now as they are running their club like a proper business.

I agree that is hard for Celtic to compete with such clubs, so why then does our CEO receive a salary commensurate with a top end of the premiership club ? That appears a bit hypocritical to me.

It’s also worth noting that clubs such as Porto have similar problems to Celtic in that they are next door to a country which is supported by massive TV income that they cant compete with. They use this to their advantage as a gateway club for many players, which they then sell on at inflated prices. This is something Celtic should be doing rather than providing pensions to the likes of Daryl Murphy, no disrespect to the big man. If you look at the age profile and calibre of player Newcastle are signing then you can see this is something they are looking to do too. Porto also have a smaller budget than Celtic yet have pulled away from us in Europe since the point when both clubs were at a similar level 10 years ago. We should look to clubs such as that for a way forward not at the EPL.

I’m sure a ‘good greet’ never did anybody any harm.

It is only when the same people repetitiously make the same utterly predictable & banal criticism, about the same targets, that it becomes TEDIOUS.

If they were to OCCASIONALLY say something positive, then their moaning would be more understandable.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

absolutely ……. It would be nice to hear something positive now and again from those (very few) posters who wander towards ‘bhun mentality’……heaven forbid they should ever cross that threshold, however ……. LOL

I think we could easily get 2 million for Charlie Mulgrew.

How brilliant would that be ?

Imagine telling your sevco buddies. Peter Lawwell sold Charlie Mulgrew not just the once but twice. Scottish player of the year 2 million spondoolies.

IF we sold everyone then we could have about 300k in the bank more than them.

    Sell Mulgrew

The point you make about Porto is a very valid one. It is very similar to the model that Udinese have here in Italy.

They have a fantastic scouting network, especially in Latin America and Africa. They buy young emerging talent cheap – eg Alexis Sanchez (sold to Barca last year for c£25m) and sell for top dollar – although they never quote ‘crazy money’ for a player in case they scare off potential buyers.

Unlike Porto they have never won a league championship or European honours, but have finished 4th and 3rd in Serie A in the last two seasons.

Their annual turnover is a lot less than CFC, and their average home attendance is under 20,000. But every year they are in the black, which is almost unheard of in Italy!
