Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

  7. Paul67, will support Wee Oscar in any way I can. Bundoran and CRC (amongst many othere)have been doing a great job!

A wee message of support to Chloe Duffin (9) who is currently going thru a major op in Edinburgh today. She has had about 20 operations to date and this latest one is to help create an ear for her. Her condition is known as Goldenhar Syndrome and is quite rare. Hope Lynn and Brian stay strong for her.

    God bless,

  10. I feel that the club are scared to adopt the ‘buy cheap, sell high’ model for fear of the fans reaction to constantly losing our best players.

As it is we have adopted a ‘buy cheap, run out contract’ model that makes for easy business calculations but a life of diminishing returns.

To go back to my Newcastle example of earlier they were on target to break even without the £35M Carroll sale, but obviously that gave them a huge boost to the transfer pot.

Obviously we’ll never see that for a player but if we were to uncover an absolute diamond I doubt we’d ever take peak value for him.

I absolutely don’t mind being a ‘selling club’ if we can see it being used to find other exciting prospects. Put it this way, I’d rather watch an exciting prospect for two years and lose him as he’s about to peak, than see 5 years of a dependeable journeyman that would cost the same.

  11. Tallybhoy – Udinese are another great example, and Villareal to a lesser extent, although they seem to have messed it up recently as they changed their policy from buy low sell high.

There are a number of players in our squad, Ki, Wanyama, Kayal, Izzy , Ledley, Hooper and Matthews instantly spring to mind who are all capable of playing for teams in the top half of the EPL. The key is buying guys like these and keeping them for 3/4 years as Porto have done with their various teams since 2003 , before selling them at the peak price in the cycle. We achieved this with McGeady, but not with Boruc. If we get north of £6m on Ki then that is probably the max for him, so it would make sense to take that and spend on the likes of Henriksen from Rosenberg and maybe Russell or Mackay-Steven from United.

Porto are really not a good example to use.

Porto enjoy a very different employment policy to Celtic, we can’t raid the South American market like they can, they bring in prospects, many of whom are sent back cos they don’t make the grade.

A bit of fresh air, sunshine and exercise helps you see the world in a much more positive light. A bit of currywurst wouldn’t hurt either.

Don’t you worry too much about Neil Lennon’s Celtic: they’re champions, they’re the biggest, richest and best supported club in Scotland, and they’ll be playing in Europe till Christmas at least.

I think they’ll be just fine. None of the people running Celtic strike me as idiots. I trust that they know their business. (thumbsup)

  20. The Honest Cover-up on

    weeminger

I don’t think we are deliberately not selling. I think it’s just too early to sell Wanyama and I reckon injuries have got in the way of cashing in on Kayal and/or Izaguirre. The fans accepted the McGeady sale was needed to balance the books. We got good money, everyone was happy.

Like you say, for this policy to work we have to sell at the right time before their contracts reach the final year.

I don’t think any sensible fans object to this policy if a decent chunk of the money is re-invested in new talent. Except Aw Naw of course. He really can be hard work at times!

Though personally I’d object to selling Joe Joe Super Joe as I am starting to have Henrik-esque feelings for him. If he became a future captain here and stayed for the rest of his career I’d be delighted.

Most of the others are for sale at a good price. Would love to see Johnny Russell in the hoops soon.

  21. The Exiled Tim- Porto are exactly the kind of club we should be looking at. Why not change our employment policy ?

The South American market is one that we have not even looked at, yet there are numerous Uruguayan, Argentinian and other prospects where players hold dual nationality therefore there are no work permit issues. Even if that is an issue Celtic managed to obtain work permits for Du Wei and Koki Mizuno from lesser nations than these so that is no excuse.

Suarez came to the UK via Holland. There are South Americans playing for Copenhagen , which is just as cold and uninviting as Scotland.

If things do not change in the coming years we can wave goodbye to the following players: Matthews, Izzy, Vic, Ledley, Kayal, Forrest Hooper and further down the line Watt and McGeough!
