Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

NL: it’s been our strategy at the club for a few years. We cultivate players then move them on. #Celtic

Neil Lennon on Ki: Advanced discussions with a club. Hoping a deal will go through. We feel it’s good business #Celtic

Good point about salesmen. Imagine trying to get £9m+ offers for Ki after Regan and Doomcaster’s talk of armageddon and slow lingering deaths! Morons like Burley don’t help either stating that it wasn’t saying much that M’Villa bossed his team against us [to a 3-1 defeat whilst get sent off in the proces]

Sorry but to me, every club is a selling club.

There is no one who isnt for sale at the right price.

If you buy a player for around a million and within a couple of years they are being chased for 5mil+…. thats good business.

The McGeady transfer has been mentioned but there are several other examples.

He was a remarkable one, bought in for nothing, that money more than covered his training costs

Even Danny Fox: 300k in summer, 1.2mil in january I think

Kenny Miller: Bosman yeh? 3Mil to Derby a year later. They then offloaded him to teh forces of darkness for a mill a further year later.

Selling Ki now represents a good investment for Celtic. Especially if the player wants to leave.

    Depressingly.

Maybe we can get Zoloft to sponsor the blog.

The Scottish leagues sits next to the most arrogant, myopic and self-obsessed league in the world.

Scottish football is also absolutely terrible at marketing itself,..

As yet we have not sold a single player for a decent profit.

I agree that we are at the begining of the experiment, and if Ki goes for a decent amount the plan is going to plan so to speak.

We still have a problem though, the support demands success, thew support are not prepared to wait for the prospects to arrive at their potential, just look at the posts on CQN for the proof.

We also have another problem in identifying players who can be sold for profit, we have signed a few duds who counteract the good ones.

I endured the same nonsense from awe naw on Saturday evening ……… When he descended to calling me “retarded”, and other superlatives, I decided to have nothing more to do with him ……. It was a justified decision when I read the strange bile he is continuing to use on CQN today, I have confirmation that I made the right decision……..

I’ve been on the site for about five years, tend to post when I feel I actually have something to say. You might want to give that a try rather than bore everyone else with pointless or obnoxious drivel.

    Off to do some work

Hail hail fellow Celts and big up to the lads putting in the time to help Wee Oscar

  10. It’s not about sell sell all your players, the working model could be ala porto/udinese. effective scouting system, buy promising talent, scout potential replacement, sell talent at profit, buy scouted replacement talent. Sprinkle a few enduring ‘finished article’ signings to bolster the young developing talent and you’ve got a sustainable model.

Do it well and you’ll have a sustainable competitive model.

You’ll also have the excitment of seeing how your new talent performs and develops.

I think we started down this road a couple of years ago Ki/Kayal/Hooper/Wanyama/Rogne/Matthews, hopefully the replacement talent is ID’d and the ‘finished article’ signings and Ive no problem picking up big profits on all the above (not in the one transfer window though) and thanks for your efforts lads.

  11. Ki Leaving ? Sad if true.

Ok, the money we make is welcome.

Unfortunately, its a sad indictment of the Scottish game that his skills were not allowed to shine through. This guy is a very good footballer; he’s got a great future; just sorry it won’t be with us.

Is there another Celtic blog that you use ?

I used to post on KDS as jazzman but stopped that as I was worried I was being groomed.

I also used to post as Nevermastered under the soccernet message boards but that quite quickly died out.

Is there an alternative to celticquicknews

I think it would be good for everyone. Me, you guys (especially the prayer meeting brigade) , Paul67, Celtic FC no not sure about that

That was my point about Porto.

And Philvis is correct, it’s national governments who decide on the rules.

Britland is at a distinct disadvantage compared to the rest of europe when it comes to employing footballes from outwith the EU.

  15. Just logged in to read todays article and was taken by surprise by this!! :-D

Im not going to start naming names I just want to say thank you all so much for what you are doing for Oscar. It is very humbling. Obviously we are going through a very difficult and very stressful time, and the support we have been receiving has been immense. You expect it from your friends and family but not so much from complete strangers. There really are some amazing people out there and a lot of you fall into that bracket.

Oscar is doing really really well since he came home almost 2 weeks ago now. He is eating and drinking again and having great fun (and fights) with his little sister and best friend Isobella.

His immune system has been very low for a long time now but it has creeped high enough to take him out a little so Leona took him out this morning and bought him new trainers!! Blue ones with green dinosaurs on them. AND lights!!! (he’s just off the phone to me). He was SOOOOOO excited to get out.

He will be getting a bit of radiotherapy to his liver next month which will take him into October and it is after that when we will be looking to take him abroad for this immunotherapy treatment (the main reason for fundraising) which we hope will mean it never ever returns. (Another reason for fundraising is so that we can take him abroad immediately if he relapses. Relapse rates for neuroblastoma are very high and UK treatment isnt great. To stand any real chance of cure you must go abroad).

There is light at the end of this horrible tunnel we have been travelling in since November. A setback now is unthinkable.

    Fingers tightly crossed CSC

NL: I might not get the Ki money. Could be used to service the debt. I don’t know yet. #Celtic

That’s a worry, and a dangerous route to go down IMO.If we don’t get a decent level of investment in the team, interest and ST sales for next few seasons will decline.

    Just in,so not read back-apologies.

Seems Ki,the only potentially world-class footballer in recent Scottish history is being hawked around at a derisory £5m.

Perspective-Blackpool turned down the same amount for Matt Phillips.

    Aye,that’s right. Blackpool and WHO,exactly?

It seems we are being prepared for some poor financials after a year which saw us signing eff all, winning the league and having five-I’ll repeat that,FIVE home European ties.

During that time, our esteemed Chief Executive is pulling a salary equivalent to around 1800 season tickets-and that’s without adding his NI and pension entitlements.

Yet he still sees fit to treat the fans similar to something stuck to the bottom of his shoe.

Is there ANYONE on here who genuinely believes that this man has any respect for the fans?

He clearly does not credit us with any intelligence, and I would L-O-V-E to know why he thinks he can get away with it.
