Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

  1. The Exiled Tim – I am only hearing excuses. We need to find a way around work permit restrictions. Sebastian Coates the Uruguayan defender at Liverpool has a Scottish father for example.

The club should be lobbying UEFA/FIFA/GB Government /whoever they need to with a view to challenging these restrictions. Scotland has the same TV audience as the EPL, with TV licenses and satelite subscriptions in Scotland the same as across the UK, yet how much of those funds make their way into Scottish Football , as opposed to English – somewhere else political pressure should be brought into play. John Reid didnt appear to do anything in this regard ?

Falkirkbhoy – not really sure why you are turning this into an excuse to have a go at Martin O’Neill’s signing policies at Celtic and Sunderland. Martin done what he had to do, and was supported by board policies at the time. We sold Kenny Dalglish and the stadium wasn’t burnt to the ground, we are not like some fans of other clubs.

whats the matter, is the problem that “honest businessmen” not getting their cut, or is it eating into tobacco and bevvy profits, are dividends down.

Your story might carry a wee bit more gravity if its compared to similar level drugs like booze and snout, no that wont do, cause that would make your argument look like sour grapes, innit

Really disappointed if true, 5m and Lennon already saying he’s not sure of he will get any of it. Surely this should have been discussed.

5m is poor business no matter how some people try cover it up by saying he’s not 1st choice .

I agree with your point, and have been following the wee man’s battle all year.

It is a superb gesture from PAUL67 to dedicate his leader to him.

He will always be in our thoughts, which is as it should be.

However, with the greatest of respect-we have posted frequently in the past-does this mean we should turn a blind eye for the day to what is happening at our club?

I don’t think so personally, though I am clearly in a minority amongst the current correspondents.

I think we are being diverted from a few events which should be looked at,and those who question the actions of the board at the moment are being sidelined.

I would love to know why, because it’s not because said board are getting it right.

    Is it?

Just read back , this is definitely an all time low for this blog.

Go back and read the leader and then tell me how people can come on here and post the drivel we are getting today , and before anyone comes back with” its a blog and thats what you do ” tripe some of the stuff is disgusting.

Have a wee look at the link MWD has been posting regarding what this club means to some people and think before you post the personal insults which some are far too quick to do , you would think it was us and not them that are up to our necks in crap reading here today.

    Not making excuses.

The law was brought in to try and restrict foriegners, and to force clubs to use brit players.

You gave one example of a Sth. American having scottish ancestory, I would imagine one would be about the ammount.

As long as england are doing badly at the big tourneys, there is no chance of the law being changed.

Now, if the the huns were to request the law to be changed, I would bet my last penny that the SNP would lobby on their behalf for the law in scotland to be changed.

It has nothing to do with the football powers, so talking to them is a waste of time, it’s a waste of time talking to them about football matters, just look at what the huns are doing.

If true £5m is underwhelming, even if he is 5th choice central midfielder with 18 months on his contract.

It doesn’t help player values when those who run the game, step forward CEOs of SFA & SPL, undermine the game in this country with their hysterical hyperbole of impending armageddon brought on by the non-accomodation of the cheats.

I did mention that I was critical of the Board on £50 SBs and the singing of Irish songs of commemoration …… Just seems to me that some posters don’t take kindly to the fact that I feel the Board are doind an absolutely job, generally…….and one poster was downright ignorant and abusive, as witnessed by Paul’s earlier message………that poster was not you and I’m sure you will agree, his ongoing behaviour today has been similar, but even worse than his behaviour on Saturday evening …… It is obvious he intends to contine with this behaviour, so I will be bypassing his posts from now on……….I like a good robust debate now and then, but he is trying to equal FF in terms of abusive language / content……..

  29. T.E.T – my point about Coates, which I didn’t realise until this morning incidentally, is that there are many South American players of European ancestry where work permits may not be an issue. I dont disagree with the gist of what you are saying however.

If not South America or Africa then there are EU countries where our scouting system doesn’t even touch. Slovakian captain Marek Hamsik has been in Italy since he was 17. Lubo was the greatest ever Slovakian footballer in many eyes and we had a connection with Dr Jo, we should be sniffing around lads like that, even if it is only to sell them on at great profit at their peak.

With some of our recent signings I think we are being more creative but there is still scope to improve on that.

  32. JinkyvJohnGreig-saysitall on

£5m for Ki sounds like we have done a deal to keep the true value quiet – maybe it’s £5m upfront with £1m if they stay up and £1m if he plays x no. of games…

Hope so, £5m alone sounds too cheap.
