Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

I agree with your point, and have been following the wee man’s battle all year.

It is a superb gesture from PAUL67 to dedicate his leader to him.

He will always be in our thoughts, which is as it should be.

However, with the greatest of respect-we have posted frequently in the past-does this mean we should turn a blind eye for the day to what is happening at our club?

    ..

This is a Celtic blog..so l think 99.999% of us would like to talk about Celtic and today Oscar..l did Not think l needed to state that..Paul67 deleted what l was referring to..as l said a Celtic Blog..There is a Difference..

I’m probably a bit Over Emotional on today’s Leader..Hey Ho..

  2. With the players we have freed/sold, we have saved circa £80k a week. That amounts to £3.8m over a season

With the probable sale of Ki and what should be a CL Group campaign (circa £15m) there is no excuse whatsoever for a couple of decent additions to the starting XI

  3. hopefully fee more likely to be this

Losts of figures being banded around for Ki, Swansea offered £5m + Dobbie which was rejected, today offered £6.5m potentially rising to £8m

Wow Lenny and Gary Oendry just jogged past me …too slow with camera damn!

I would tend to agree with your post. Probably rising to £7m tops imo

    Google Maps:

    Glasgow to Troon: 33.9 Miles

    Start from Celtic Park?

I think that would be a more CQN thing to do and could get more publicity that way.

Although maybe a more CQN thing to do would be to start from a pub…

I agree that eastern europe is where we should be looking due to the restrictions.

I have no idea why JP doesn’t look at some of the Balkan countries, it’s like they are a no go area for him.

Thanks for the reply,mate-it was couched in much more reasonable language than mine,if I’m honest.

I still believe you spent a tad too much time supporting the board in the face of,IMO,overwhelming evidence, but what the hell,it’s a blog, and we are allowed different views.

Delighted to see you mention the songs,though-I was right next to the Green Brigade that night, with my Dad and my uncle.

If the add-ons had happened,we would have heard it.

In particular,it gets my uncle’s back up.

It didn’t. We were astounded at the charge.

We were absolutely disgusted at the club’s reaction to it.

A first year law student would have got us off with that.

In their infinite wisdom, the club gave us the same reputation at UEFA as the huns have.

    Any idea why?

  10. Proudbhoy – just read the BBC report – haven’t seen any quote from Neil re not getting any of the funds; they are saying c. £6m – would like to see full quoted statements and details of fee from Celtic (but that may not be forthcoming). Disappointed to lose Ki for sure, but if he does go I trust we will spend – just might not be in this window; not much time left to make the most of that money.

  11. Larrybhoy

NL saying he didn’t know if he’d get any of Ki money came from a tweet from BBC’s Chris McLaughlin who travelled with team to Sweden

  12. Summa thanks for the quick reponse, glad to hear your ghirl is on the mend. My ghirl will be in touch in the next few days. All the best Hail Hail Hebcelt

  13. Steinreignedsupreme on

Ki’s fee appears to have dropped by £3m in a few hours – but then the information is coming from the same people who are claiming there is a waiting-list for Sevco Franchise season-tickets.

  14. Ten men won the league.

It is by no means certain that Celtic will qualify for the CL.

Infact it will surprise me if they do .

Celtic will not gamble on CL income.

Therefore you can deduct £15m from your calculations.

Then take into consideration that we are running at a loss.

The saved wages may only reduce our negative balance.

Celtic do not have much money to spend .

CL money may not even change that.

Our latest financials will be very poor.

Sevco will be back soon enough , without any debt.

Out board will ensure that we are atleast on a financial level footing with them , when that occurs.

PL and our board , know what they are doing.

  15. I emigrated to Australia less than 7 years ago. Why is everyone intent on holding me responsible for the plight of the Aboriginals? Ach well, if they’re blaming me, they’re giving Peter Lawwell a break. :)

Not long back from a long weekend away and just watched a recording of the game. Painful viewing. I liked how Tokely was laughing at the Celtic support as he walked very slowly to take a throw-in, about 30 seconds before Celtic equalised.

    Karma!

  16. I'm Neil Lennon (tamrabam) on

For me, 5 million quid for Ki is a good deal. He isn’t even a first team regular and will struggle to get a game behind Brown, Kayal, Wanyama, Kayal, Forrest, Sami and Commons.

If the money is spent on a decent centre half, it will be a good deal

If the money is put into the bank to make up for a ST deficit, it’s probably still an okay deal.

IMO I would still shift a few more players, in the current climate especially, EVERYONE is for sale

    Spend if we qualify?

I still laugh in the face of those who say “only spend if we qualify” for the CL. Why? If we have qualified then let’s be honest, qualification is our goal, the sum total of our ambitions. If we have already reached that goal, then why spend more money ? We are not expecting to go and win it are we? The spend is to improve our chances of getting the CL money only.

    CL Qualifications without sevco

We probably have at least 5 clear runs at the SPL title and CL qualification. Lets say, we do the safety first thing and we don’t sign any players in preparation for trying to qualify, well who would really be surprised if we didn’t qualify in that case. (but hey we didn’t spend)

Imagine we then followed the same, safety first, route for the next 4 qualification attempts and didn’t qualify at all. I don’t think that many of us would be happy that there was a 75 million quid kitty up for grabs during the sevconians absence, and we didn’t get any of it and now lo and behold the huns are back in the SPL again and during their absence our income had dropped.

    Guarantees/Odds

Now I know that spending 10 million doesn’t guarantee us qualification, but it probably increases our odds a little, and only one qualification in 5 seasons would repay that spend

Spend your income, but make sure your income increases

The policy of spend what we earn makes sense, of course it does, but if the amount “what we earn” is reducing every season, then that needs to be addressed. While our spending has generally reduced since 2000 onwards, so has our income, funny that? Its sort of defeating the purpose.

    Selling club

Incidentally in about 40 years of supporting Celtic, we have always been a selling club and have sold our best players routinely. The policy of selling to make up income shortages however often causes further income shortages. The old board proved that. We don’t need any proof about how to run a club down, we have already done that before and it wasn’t buying players that caused it, in fact it would be fair to say not buying players contributed more.

Probably the only period that I can ever remember when our best payers didn’t leave us and signed second contracts was under MON.

What you are going through, and most of all your wee lad,is way above and beyond anything football related.

I amd just glad to be part of this great and generous Celtic Community with Celtic F.C. and The East End of Glasgow at its heart.

I have bought my CQN badges, because I wanted to; I am filling up the auld change pot….my wife adds to it,and my best mate,an Englishman with little interest in football (!) has thrown in a generous donation because he believes in what you (and we) are doing to help save your wee boy’s life.

I know what you are going through, believe it. If I could do more,I would. I wish you all the best that could possibly happen for you Your entire family’s courage is moving.

I’m struggling to believe your a Celtic supporter, especially when you dont think “they” will qualify.

But regardless, its been asked a few times over the last dew days without response, how have the books got into such a bad state the year after our first decent run in europe for a while, especially when we dont count on european money

from what the club are telling us, the season ticket sales are similar to the last few years with a 5% increase in proce , so how come “they” have made such a mess of it

NL: I might not get the Ki money. Could be used to service the debt. I don’t know yet. #Celtic

“That’s a worry, and a dangerous route to go down IMO.”

Aye I agree, what the heck does Lennon think he is doing giving the media in this country a stick to thrash him, the board and the club with. No prizes for guessing tonights phone-in topics “World Record Attendances” “Lennon gets no money from sale of player”. Tomorrow’s papers will no doubt almost forget the CL game in the evening and hyperbole this comment for maximum milage.

Have we no learned how to play this mob yet. It is the same game play they use every time. Rangers(IA)/Sevco swoop, celtic manage to bring someone in. Rangers(IA)/Sevco snatch a thrilling late equaliser, INjury time questioned in Celtic’s game, Rangers(IA)/Sevco fans are referred to as legions, celtic fans often get hordes. Craig Beattie rejects Sevco offer “Craig Beattie denies his demands caused deal to collapse” Someone rejects Celtic “Celtic couldn’t match someone’s worth”

    and so it goes on.

  28. NL on Sky saying Ki money will probably service debt, does not know if any money to strengthen ,even if we get to CL ? Nonsense.
