Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Those of a certain age might remember Leeroy Thornhill the long-legged and long armed dancer with The Prodigy.

    Youngsters you mean? :-)

Hahaha. Nir does look like Leeroy.

Does he still play keyboard for The Prodigy live shows?

Will see them at Benicassim in July.

  3. BMCUW – Dinner will have to be twice as fancy this weekend! She’s a converted tim in Kentucky now, asked me at weekend as I came down from cave upstairs “did we win?” A hoop lass in the bluegrass.

Auldheid – Panto style indeed! Love the kid, composed head beyond his years. His good self and Brown are quite the duo.

I know he is a DJ now. Think he has worked at some Prodigy gigs since 2000.

He looks about the height of An Tearman 7 foot tall. :)

I find that a truly fantastic line!

It is possibly the greatest, most concise sentence that I have seen, showing what it is like being a football supporter. ` Turns out`!!!

    Paul67,

One of the most pleasing aspects of recent performances is The Tank.

Yesterday was a perfect example of being as strong in the last minute as in the first.

The tactic of teams digging in against us, then having a go in the last 10-15!minutes is nullified.

Between the intelligent team selection and introduction of top class subs, we sustained the performance yesterday, even after the physically and emotionally draining game on Thursday.

For me, that augurs well for Sunday, as we will have to be at the top of our game.

Notice of Outcome of Disciplinary Complaint

Alleged Party in Breach: Rangers FC

    Disciplinary Rule(s) allegedly breached:

Rule 101: Offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature

That on 20th February 2015 during the Scottish Professional Football League Championship match between Raith Rovers FC and Rangers FC, supporters of Rangers FC were heard to chant offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature towards Stan Collymore.

    Notes of Reason

Before his career as a professional footballer took off, Stan Collymore worked part time as a valet for the local Vauxhall franchise in Stafford.

Following his dismissal as a pundit by BT Sport last week, Collymore’s employment status was ridiculed by a group of Rangers football fans with the chant:

    “Back cleaning Astras”

No offensive, insulting or abusive language was used. Spectators, match officials, SPFL delegates and viewers on the television were clearly mistaken in their uniform view that the chant contained derogatory references to Collymore’s presumed religion or colour.

    Outcome: No case to answer.

  11. The only reason this charge has came about is the vermin used the word ‘black’, they sing about FBs every week and it goes unchallenged.

  12. looking at the league table I’d be surprised if Aberdeen get more than 86pts.

based on this Celtic would need 27pts from 13 games to reach 87pts.

this could be 9 wins and 4 defeats or 8 wins, 3 draws plus 2 defeats.

therefore Celtic WILL win the league!

Obfuscation is a lot older than Sevco.

Any sectarian offences where the guilty party was arrested for singing the Spanish National Anthem? German? etc, etc. This remains a country with a deeply anti Irish/Catholic/all encompassing Celtic problem.

Much more so since the demise of Rangers and their doomed attempt to refloat the Titanic and sail in it as the Titanic.

Deflection and criminalization of Celtic supporters now propped up by the Offensive behaviour act, but much more importantly Police Scotland and aided and abetted on a daily basis SMSM.

Most of these spurious ‘sectarian’ charges get thrown out of court and will continue to be, despite a deeply mortally wounded establishment. The realization that they have nothing other than a zombie company, running a zombie club, is very difficult for a ‘Protestant’ country to take.

Celtic and our supporters are an easy target, and it will may worse, before it gets better whilst Sevco are allowed to run amok and kick out in their latest dying throws.

They’ve tuped their old songs and each one is a nail in the coffin of the world record breakingly short lived Sevco who are toxic and uninvestable.

Stan Collymore laid a perfect trap for the Huns, and they marched straight in,jackboots and all.

Inadvertently he did the same for the Scottish MSM. By criticising the racial element, they condone the sectarian part which they have previously ignored and failed to condemn.

By ignoring it completely, they condemn themselves.

Their wee brains are in knots trying to figure it out, witness the few columns on the subject. Contrast that with the one from The Guardian that I posted about 830 this morning.

    ……………………….

Patronising little post from you. Congratulations if you can speak Irish but most of us on here can’t. The majority of Celtic supporters who sing the song at matches would have been born in Scotlandband attended schools where Irish would not have been taught. That doesn’t prevent us from having strong Irish cultural backgrounds and having a certain reverence for our Irish roots and identity. I sing the correct English language version of the song without add ons. I bet you think O Come All Ye Faithful should only be sung in Latin.

‘You have to consider the issue in its correct context.

And that context is that for generations of Celtic fans Celtic Park was the only public venue in Scotland in which they could safely express and celebrate their Irish Catholic identity’.

And you think it was any easier in Belfast?

Catholicism is better expressed in church than as a terrace chant
