Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  4. As someone stated earlier, we are all attracted to the club for different reasons.

For me it is very important that we are a club open to all.

So I like to see this kind of Initiative from Celtic

CELTIC Park celebrated the Chinese New Year on Sunday and the club welcomed a number of important guests to the stadium as part of the celebrations.

Huazhong Zhang, Deputy-Consul General at the Consulate General of China in Edinburgh (pictured above, left), and Limin Zhang (right), also Deputy-Consul General, the Consulate General of China in Edinburgh, met Celtic Chief Exectuive Peter Lawwell before the game. And he presented the guests with a special Celtic shirt to mark the occasion.

He also made a special shirt presentation to Lui On Lee (right-hand picture, second left), Chairman of the Confederation of Chinese Association in Scotland, Thomas Ho (left), First Vice Chairman of the Confederation of Chinese Association in Scotland, Teresa Wan, Chairman of the Confederation of Chinese Women Association in Scotland, and Andy Chuang, Chairman of the Euro Chinese Golf Association, all of whom were also invited to Celtic Park on Sunday as guests of the club.

And around 1,000 Chinese students currently studying in Scotland were also at the stadium to see Celtic beat Hamilton 4-0.

I’m not really fussed about the Soldier’s Song personally, however regardless of which language it is sang – the Celtic support sing it best.

Most Cringeworthy and disrespectful is All-Ireland football and hurling finals, seems to be interrupted earlier every year. The sing it in Gaelic, well the first half of the song anyway.

  12. I thought Scott Brown was as good as i have seen him in a Celtic jersey yesterday, head and shoulders above the rest,it could be the introduction of Bitton ,which has helped him be a bit more consistent of late. After the Euro Qualifiers ,if Scotland don’t qualify,i hope he retires and we will get the benefit in future seasons.

  13. Ralston stated that the message about sectarian ,offensive singing put out by Stan was correct, but he was the wrong person to do it as he had around 20 years ago had a spat with Ulrika.

For those who think Chelsea fans are just the same as Sevco`s, can you imagine a response from Ibrox anything like the response from Chelsea? Their Manager came out strongly against the racist behaviour; their Captain did likewise; their Club officially disowned them and their supporters held banners condemning those involved.

What have we heard from Ibrox re the recent ( well, 100 years or so) behaviour of the supporters of either version of their Club?

You think it is an expression of faith to add that line to a national anthem?

Does it ‘belong’ there then and did the Irish miss a trick in not seeing that is where it ‘belongs’?

I understand your love of your anthem, particularly in your native language, and the displeasure you must feel when it is rendered incorrectly.

But,as I said earlier-and HAMILTON TIM and a fair few others have also pointed out-those days are largely gone. It is sung correctly by the vast majority.

We canny sing it in Erse/Gaelic,we can only sing it in English. And some of us struggle with that. I’m proud of my Irish heritage,I’m proud that I know an increasing amount-thanks largely to this site-of the pain my ancestors endured.

I’m proud that when my Dad and his pals founded a supporters bus in Ardrossan 45 years ago that you wurnae allowed on unless you knew the rebs back to front.

I think you are wrong to take the anthem of a free Ireland for your own and deny it to anyone else. A free Ireland came about as much because of those Irish people who lived elsewhere as it did for those on the frontline.
