Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Maybe the word ‘feinian’ triggers their filter.

Maybe it’s the incorrect name for where Raith play?

My money is on the former ;)

  9. I would settle for two draws this week

4:4 in San Siro and 0:0 at CP.

There is more necessity for Aberdeen to win, than us.

They are running out of games to close the gap, and for this reason they have to take something out the game.

If they draw, and all other games go with form, then they would have to beat us at Pitoddrie later in season and look for snookers to claw back deficit.

Their need to win, will mean they will open up, and we will beat them.

Sadly, I think reverse will hold true in Milan.

In my opinion this week for Celtic is all about making the best use of our player pool on Thursday if we have to have any chance at all we will have to play the game at a very high tempo for 90 plus minutes. We need to get into the Inter players faces and not allow them to stroke the ball around while at the same time we need to find a way to score a goal or two while keeping the back door tightly closed so all in all it is going to be a hard shift for the players. Now if we succeed on knocking Inter out of the tournament it will obviously put us on a high for Sunday but to be honest it is more likely we will leave Italy on a bit of a downer over an Inter win.So on Sunday some players will have to be built up to forget Thursday and forget tiredness and some fresh legs will need to be brought in as Aberdeen will surely be up for the game. However, should Celtic win both games Rony and the Bhoys will be heroes and Rony will have justified the faith of those few who have always believed in him. H.H.

    Agree on your preferred results.

However, I think they will only open up a bit on Sunday in the last 20 minutes if it’s level, as they won’t see a draw as a knock-out blow, with us still having to visit Pittodrie.

They’ll play it tight in the first half, looking for mistakes to capitalise on and set pieces, I think.

Most of the problem with this legislation rests with the word ‘sectarianism’. I was involved in the early consultation for the first legislation and pointed this out to Jim Wallace who was leading the consultation. My point was that the word should be ‘bigotry’ as everyone knew what that meant but ‘sectarianism’ was a much vaguer term.In the shambles which followed ,this view was shared by Si Tom Devine and several senior legal persons. However, we stumble on ,with the vaguery leading to confusion and mis-carriages of justice.

I only worry about Celtic mate and I know for a fact we are the better team, have better players and are playing well. All that considered we’ll win more games than every other team in the league including aberdeen that’s why I’m 100% sure win.lose or draw on Sunday we’ll win the league HH

  20. All the earlier chat about add-ons in songs got me smiling at an incident on my stag do.

The song in question was the Fields of Athenry. I’m sure of you know that when the line “against the famine and the crown” is sung the add-on of “f*** the crown” is bellowed out by some.

Well, as I was saying this being my stag-do and we had had a right few pints my cousin was a bit worst for wear.

The singer started singing ‘The Fields’ and the bar fell silent.

The singer gets to the line “for you stole Trevions(sp) corn” and my cousin, getting his lines mixed up, lets out a massive “f*** the corn”

Cue the laughter from everyone in the bar, including the singer.

A big reddy was the order of the day

He still gets ribbed about it to this day and we all sing his famous line now as a homeage to him :-)
