Weeoscar4life Glasgow quiz night

893

The good people running the weeoscar4life campaign have been in touch and asked me to pass on information regarding the appeal and forthcoming quiz night in Glasgow later this month:

“As many of you will be aware the weeoscar4life campaign team have recently been involved in raising the profile of a wee 3 year old boy from Belfast called Oscar. Many of you have kindly supported this initiative by purchasing CQN badges and wee Oscar wristbands and taking part in the “Small Change for US, Big Change for Oscar campaign”, with the money raised all going towards getting Oscar the treatment that he so desperately needs.

The next event that we have organised to help raise the £250,000 required for Oscar’s treatment is a quiz night. This will take place on the 29th September in The Phoenix (Previously Eastenders) on the Gallowgate with a 7pm start.

The quiz will be made up of a variety of questions, 50% Celtic related and 50% general knowledge. There will be raffle prizes and we also hope to have some live music after the quiz has finished.

Tickets are priced at £5 and you can buy as many as you wish for friends and family so long as they are over 18. Don’t worry if you aren’t able to make up a team of 4/5 as we will arrange you into teams before the event. We hope to be able to offer a ‘print at home’ ticket service so that you would be able to simply bring your tickets on the night.

Until then if you can contact us at weeoscar4life@gmail.com then Wecan begin to allocate spaces to those who have expressed an interest.

Thank you once again for your continued support.”

It is sure to be a fantastic night so please book early.

You can continue to read CQN Magazine FOR FREE, or can subscribe for £10 or £20 and our sponsor, Executive Shaving, who offer an enormous range of grooming products, are offering readers a £20 voucher for all £30 CQN Magazine subscribers.

  1. Just watched Alastair Lamont on BBC Scotland trying his best not to criticise Green and thon deid team. He even goes on to suggest that the FTT had not reached a decision on the EBTs, conveniently forgetting that they HAVE but that the deid team had contested that decision and so we have the current situation. The deid team were found GUILTY, in case anyone has any doubt.

By the bye, I tried to buy Downfall in the Fort’s W H Smith this afternoon. Wasn’t available, I was told. Hmmmmm……(as someone who runs this blog has been known to opine.)

  3. Evening folks.

Can’t believe it’s 27 years today since big jock passed away.

I was born in 1963 so can’t remember the beginning of the glory years too clearly or the long barren years before that.

I started attending the games in the late 60’s, but did not really begin to learn to appreciate the game until the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Like lots of my fellow Celtic supporters I became a supporter through my father taking my brothers and me to the games. It was a glorious era, regularly getting to European cup quarter and Semi Finals. League titles every year and cup finals galore, although we lost a few of them.

I can remember beautiful days in the Celtic end at cup finals, the Hampden Stour rising when we scored. The sea of Green White and Gold. Also being drenched when the heavens opened (the Celtic end being uncovered).

But always in the background there was big Jock. It was only in later years, with my Father recounting the good and bad years that I got a better understanding of what many fans had went through

My Father has attended Celtic park since the 40’s, he is 82 now and still going strong, although he does not get along to Paradise as often as he used to.

I learned of the Clubs history through my Father’s stories. He told of how through bad management (board level) cheating (referees) we did not win the trophies we should have or at that time were not the club we should have been.

He told me we of regularly during the early sixties not even being in the first four or five in the league standings. Of going out of the cups, being beaten in cup finals, regularly being beaten by Rangers.

Then Big Jock came on the scene. He remembers a headline from one of the English Sunday Papers, just after Stein was named the Celtic manager. It read something like “Move over Rangers, we are taking over”. The big man meant business.

As they say the rest is history. Two short years later we were kings of Europe. We won the league 9 times in a row. Another European final and regularly reaching the later stages of the European cup. But perhaps the most important aspect was the way his team played. To win of course, but to win in with an attacking, exciting attractive style.

We will never underestimate what the big man did for our club. He gave us success; respectability around the world, a way of playing that was envied and admired.

Big Jock god bless you and thank you. YNWA.

    Dan

It was a nice, traditional, local pub. We sat in the front part and were joined by quite a few old folk in for their daily constitutional. There is a larger part further back which they should whatever the EPL game of the day was.

Might be best to pop in beforehand to check if they’ll show the game.

Welcome aboard you picked a good day.

Get the popcorn out this is going to be good :))).

Chuck has been trying to get someone to put them out the game and give him someone to blame.

having read D&Ps statement its obvious they were all in it together as we all knew.

So its over to Regan, Donkey & Ogilvie we will soon find out how much they were in on the charade,by their response to being stabbed in the back by green.

Thats what they get for making deals with the devil.

ONLY AN INDEPENDENT INQUIRY will get to the bottom of this.

I really liked this. It sounded like the noise I would expect a can of worms to make when opened.

  13. Andy Hinkle

As a long time resident of Andy`s home town Stuttgart,I can honestly say that the first three of his twelve pro years were by a distance his best.

He was never the same player after his move to Seville.

I prayed that his move to the Tic would re-ignite the fearless flames of his youth and although Andy gave his all for the jersey , he never again scaled the early heights.

You may be asking yourselves “who is this ghuy”.

Well my intro went under in the “Great Flood”a couple of weeks ago.

My moniker makes the introductory inquiry superfluous.

  14. Charlie pandering to the lowest common denominator of the Orc again, reading between the lines he is trying to save face as he knows that they are goosed.

Titles will be stripped, of that I am certain .

Charlies statement is really the white flag being raised as he knows the outcome. Just points scoring with the orcs.

Dumb huns deserve all they get.

I am expecting a severe censure for the SFA from UEFA. A strongly worded letter telling them not to do it again.
