‘WE’LL KEEP CHASING McGINN,’ HOOPS BOSS

BRENDAN RODGERS insists he will not give up his pursuit of Hibs midfielder John McGinn.

The Celtic boss saw a £1.5million offer for the Scotland international rejected at the start of the week, but admitted more talks are planned.

Rodgers said: “I just wait to see what happens between the clubs, really.

“That will be organised, hopefully, between the two clubs – and, hopefully, we have another player.”

Rodgers also refused to be drawn on suggestions Liverpool had put a block on a loan bid for Welsh winger Harry Wilson.

But the Hoops gaffer admitted he is determined to bolster his squad for the Champions League bid which starts in Armenia on Tuesday.

He said: “We need to strengthen. We have a core squad that’s very strong and we want to add to that.

“But I don’t need to add guys who will be on the bench. I want guys who can come in and affect the team.

“It’s going to take a bit of time and negotiation.

“To improve, the reality is that there has to be investment. We can’t deny that, but the players here have developed very well, players who have been fantastic for two years.

“To bring someone in who is ahead of them is going to take money.”

Everton have been linked with a £25million bid for international left-back Kieran Tierney and Rodgers added: “Kieran has been absolutely brilliant, as per normal.

“He’s totally focused and, thankfully, he’s at a club he loves. There has been no change in Kieran.”
