‘WE’RE NOT HALF OF ANYTHING…’

CELTIC responded swiftly to Ibrox chairman Douglas Park after he described the club as the “other half of the Old Firm”.

The Parkhead club insisted they’re “not half of anything” after the Govan gaffer wrote to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon over the Scottish Government’s criticism of how they handled fans’ unruly and law-breaking title-winning celebrations during a rampage outside the stadium that carried on to George Square.

Louts breached strict lockdown restrictions by attending illegal mass gatherings and leaving the council with wreckage to clear up in George Square after mindless damage to property.

The Ibrox outfit were accused of not doing enough to encourage supporters to disperse, but responded, in part, by claiming that police should have been better prepared following Celtic fans protest against the club’s board in December.

Park wrote: “To claim that the ‘silence was deafening’ from Rangers is inaccurate, unbalanced and unfair.

“Police intelligence indicated that some fans would congregate in groups given the fact that is not only a historic achievement, but also due to behaviour from the other half of the Old Firm outside Parkhead in December.”

It’s an excerpt which has obviously irked Celtic as they issued a brief statement of their own last night.

A tweet read: “Celtic Football Club Statement: We’re not half of anything…

“Not our problem.”
