In time we will forget, but for much of Celtic’s 0-9 win at Tannadice earlier this season, Dundee United held their own and forced the champions off their game.  An early Kyogo goal provoked United into action.  It was Kyogo’s second, on the 40th minute, that did the damage.  Before the break it was 0-4.

That game was Jack Ross’ seventh and final game in charge and eclipsed their 0-7 reversal in Alkmaar two weeks earlier.  In the vernacular, United ‘chucked it’.  We could expect a change in attitude when, after the players got their way, they arrived at Celtic Park in November.  The visitors levelled on 87 minutes, only to be denied a point by the team that never, ever, chucks it.

Since the World Cup break, United have lost only once in six outings, a home defeat to Newco.  That run took them off the bottom of the table; they are now tied on 20 points with Kilmarnock and Motherwell, three above Ross County.

Fully rested and in great form, I expect no problems for Celtic on Sunday.  United can look back on their early season woes and comfort themselves with the fact that at least their 7-1 aggregate hammering came to the team currently second in the Dutch league, whereas another Scottish club had the same outcome over two games against the fifth-place Eredivisie side.

Paradise Pit Stop

Every now and then the Celtic FC Foundation, YOUR Foundation, does something that stops me in my tracks.  With the cost-of-living crisis having such an effect, from next week they will open the doors to Celtic Park lounges on Monday and Thursday evenings, when volunteers from the club and Foundation will serve food, provide warm shelter and facilities for kids to play and study.

Celtic cannot solve the problems of poverty, but opening their doors twice a week to provide warm food and shelter to the needy is an incredible act which reflects our founding principles.  If you are involved in this, well done.  If you can only contribute monetarily, your efforts are invaluable.

What a club, what a support.  Just incredible.

  1. A stat doing the rounds Tavernier has scored 64 penalties for Sevco,(and he’s missed plenty), Celtic have had 64 penalties in 15 years…..but these things even themselves out….aye very good….

  2. Tontine Tim, Markiebhoy,

We do not expect all our players to have the same emotional attachment as we have, but we expect them to be professional.

    Re NFL.

Christopher Ajer was an example of professional. Others not so.

    Ho ho ho.

    Business as usual.

Let’s keep pushing a fact based narrative.

Sevco top a European league of net penalties awarded/conceded across a six year period when Celtic won four trebles.

Sevco are the only top flight club in Scotland who have not had a referee review the VAR monitor leading to a negative outcome.

    Not one !

I watched the 2nd half of Hibs v Aberdeen this afternoon on RedTV.

You’ll see it on Sportacene but the 6th goal to me epitomised the couldn’t-care-less attitude of the Dons players.

Corner to Hibs. 8 Aberdeen players standing in the box. Ball comes over and Fish heads home unchallenged from 12 yards. Not one of the 8 Dons players moved a muscle from the corner being kicked to the ball hitting the net. Not one of them even moved their feet an inch.

    Unbelievable.

TBH Goodwin was at his level at St Mirren then he had to use tactics other than park the bus with Aberdeen. However he did reinvent that tactic against us at home and the sheep 🐑 fans went tonto.

Would imagine that was a catalyst for his players too who had enough 🙄

    PRESTONPANS BHOYS

I agree. Also the throwing away of a 2-1 lead at home to Newco in stoppage time when Goodwin refused to defend the lead must have sickened the players.

Jim’s Aberdeen team had a right good go @ Celtic first game of the Season and it made it an excellent game to watch considering most teams are uber negative. They played with 3 sometimes 4 players up top. I’ve not really seen anything like that since way back in the 80s frae a club that isnae OldfirmFC. I was going a bit mad early 90s though.

My memory is terrible but that game stood out for the reason stated.

On a scale of one to buttock curling embarrassment where does Willie he teaches at an RC school Collum really rate? I blame Kafflik schools ? a majority of referees including new pin up boy Nick Walsh.

Walsh just cannot stay away from Rainjurz games and if he’s not in Govan he’s somewhere as head VAR boy.

Two fingered arrogance from the already deeply incompetent Collum hit a new low, protecting his match fee livelihood and from being banned again from the only Marble staircase in town.

Breathtaking, plain sight cheating imagine what it would be like had Scotland not changed?

  13. Prestonpans bhoys,

He totally reversed the Aberdeen home game – maybe overthinking things.

It was interesting to read Liam Fox’s comments about what Ange had to say when they spoke as Managers do.

“Ange just told me to be clear in your mind of what you want and how you want your team to play and go with it. He is a top manager and he has a top squad who has worked at the highest level. I really appreciated him taking the time out to give me some words of advice.”

    Just did my research.

Tavernier has been with Newco just over 7 years, during which time he has taken 60 penalties, scored 49 and missed 11.

Good shout from Paul 67 the other day, Cormack’s statement and today’s radio performance was that of someone not in control.

Just watched the interview with Cormack on Shortie.

Fair play to him fronting up.

As I said the other night, his arrogance annoyed me when he arrived on the scene.

Talk is cheap and he’s certainly been dealt a harsh reality.

It will be interesting to watch how they respond.

Well, at least, Sportscene called out Collum for the 3 ridiculous, game changing, decisions he made.

    …………………………………………………………..

It was only Michael who really called it out (ThompsHun did a snide laugh when Truth was being told), he did call it out in a clever way – highlighting Collums quickness in decisions and brandishing of cards and destroying the dude as an impartial Referee. A very Intimidated Ref should be what he is labelled. Give it up.

Michael wullnae be getting mair BBC gigs methinks.
