Celtic are spending £11 million on a 25-year-old Danish striker with just two seasons of top-flight football behind him. On the surface, that looks like a gamble.
The Player
Høgh is 6’1″, powerful, and deceptively quick. He’s not a poacher waiting for service — he’s a complete forward who creates and finishes. His game is built on three pillars:
Physical presence — He uses his frame to bully central defenders, win aerial duels, and hold the ball under pressure. Scottish defenders will not enjoy these matchups.
Intelligent movement — His best work comes in transition. He runs the channels, pulls defenders out of position, and creates space for teammates. This is not a static target man — he’s mobileand alert.
Relentless pressing — High intensity, sustained effort, closing down from the front. Exactly what Martin O’Neill needs to fill a recent gap.
The European Pedigree
He scored against Manchester City and Atlético Madrid in last season’s Champions League. When the lights are brightest, he produces. That’s the profile Celtic need for the group stage.
Why Now?
Høgh is 25 and entering his prime. After early injury setbacks and a breakout spell at Stabæk, he found his level at Bodø/Glimt: 12 goals in 2024, 17 goals and Denmark caps in 2025. The trajectory is steep.
The concern is system dependency. Kjetil Knutsen’s Bodø/Glimt side is tactically drilled to perfection. Whether Høgh’s output scales outside that structure is the £11 million question.

A striker who can:
– Lead the line alone or partner with Duran
– Score in Europe
– Press from the front
– Win physical battles Scottish football demands
– Resell for £20-30m if he hits his ceiling
The Risk
Two seasons of elite production is not a long track record. The injury history is behind him, supposedly. But Celtic are betting that his rise continues on a bigger stage.
This is a calculated bet on a player with the physical tools, the European pedigree, and the right age profile. If he adapts to Celtic’s demands, we have an interesting player.

Those type of players are very strong on paper and so it is finally some positive news.
We have however lost 14 players from last season and importantly five of those were regular players in the first xi. Others will surely leave so loads of work still to be done. Loads.
Well done to all involved in getting this signing to the Club, much more like what is needed.
The risk, while there for every player, is worth taking in this case as we have had numerous 2-3 million pound punts with none of those attributes as well as none of that two year record of results in Europe. Better the 11 million pound man than half a dozen 2-3 million pound men, who with the odd exception, have contributed next to nothing for the team, went on loan and by and large disappeared without trace.
My prediction is that every keeper in the SPL…

Magnificent signing, for all the reasons stated. No guarantees but the fans can have no complaints in the unlikely event it doesn’t work out. The club has given us what we’ve been asking for, so absolute kudos for that. I agree that the plan should be to sell him for significant profit in 2-3 years to the EPL and replace in kind (accepting such ‘sweet spot’ players are subject to stiff competition). It’s a model that’s proven with Engels (assuming he goes to the EPL this summer) and isn’t realistic for every signing… but possible for highly selective signings.
It is a gamble, absolutely no doubt. But so is gambling on a Shin Yamada.
I can see all the Santa Claus hats and white beards being donned by the Celtic Park faithful to salute Kasper’s first CP hat-trick.

We’re buying close to the top of the arc for the player. Not our typical MO, though most agree that a blended approach is needed re signings.
As BSR post shows, quite a few first team plus wider squad have departed. Work still to be done.

I’d prefer the young Italian guy…(I’m only comparing youtube clips)…he seems more versatile. Hassan is left-footed, plays on the right and likes to cut inside. Quite predictable in my opinion…

From the bits and bobs I’ve seen online, he operates at the back post, 6 yard line, and finishes well with head or feet. A classic striker.
He’s a decent size, fairly strong, fairly mobile and decent feet, so a handful in the middle of the park, back to goal.
But there’s nothing online showing him creating anything of note, and there’s no footage showing him as part of a press, relentless or otherwise (although that’s not exactly shop window material, granted).
He looks like a Martin O’Neill striker, albeit less height & more pace than the MON archetype of yesteryear. But he’s by no means some sort of chimeric Maeda-Sutton splice that you have portrayed above.
I’d say, from the little that’s available, that he’s like an upgraded Gary Hooper – bigger, quicker but same canniness and instincts.

I think we have a star in Duran. If Hogh is as good as advertised, we are in for a feast of goals, add Jota and its party time. We badly need a tough physical midfielder. Thinks are starting to shape up nicely.

Last I read Berg is in talks with West Ham. But As mentioned the other day, Bodo probably have several players who would improve our team and are not on big money.

Very basic stats but for a striker about as low risk as you’ll find playing for a team of that standard and who’ll come to us.
Plenty of assists as well, 11 last season in all competitions, 30 games, so not just a goal hanger.
By comparison Kele gave us 1 last season against Thistle
We’ve added ten champions league goals from last season in time for the qualifiers. Some great work done by the Club, and possibly a significant upgrade.
