What chance we see rival SPLs next season?

1081

I wonder if we will see two rival Scottish Premier Leagues next season?  We could see a SPL consistent with the threats made to SFL clubs last week, let’s call it SPL Loyal, with Hibs, KIlmarnock and a few others.  They would sit atop a feeder league containing whoever they could attract from the SFL and Sevco, who due to fan power would be excluded from the top division, no matter how few teams that division had.

Meanwhile a rival SPL could setup, let’s call it SPL Solvent, with Celtic, those from the Gang of 10 who realise they are better-off participating in a league which is likely to survive until next May, along with the teams who last season finished near the top Scottish Football league.

SPL Solvent would make no threats to exclude SFL clubs who were due promotion on merit, and would therefore attract the balance of SFL clubs; which is likely to be the overwhelming majority.  This league would contain the only club with the ability to underwrite the commitments needed to bring broadcasters and commercial partners on-board.  It would also be free of, moral and ethical questions, where clubs are united with their fans on what it means to organise sporting events.

It’s not the worst idea floated in recent weeks.

  1. por cierto, thanks.

NeilR, alas, I expect the actual future to be more incredible still.

Tim Malone, Doncaster will surely be one of the early victims of the new order.

Chairbhoy, agree, Hibs fans will be far from pleased.

Auldheid, any of them will do.

Philbhoy – I admire your ambition but I’d gladly settle for reaching the ole group stage of either the ECL or Europa.

  5. After this one, Paul, I am getting suspicious that you might be tapping Regan’s and Doncaster’s phones. Wrong! I just realised you used the word ‘ethical’.

    Good summary.

I think we are close to their exclusion, which will be for at least a year, before they

Once again, big thank you for your “Xenophobia trumps racism for Brits at Euros” article few weeks back.

Zbyszek -congratulations on putting on an excellent tournament. The technical level of play, with one or two exceptions, has been very good and a nice change from the dreary ball thrashing of the SPL.

    Poland played three games!

    Thank you very much, DBBIA.

I loved that tournament and all games with high technical level of play. People in Poland are proud and time shown that we could be good hosts for these tournaments. I hear that guests were happy as well.

I can’t resist to say that BBC and other western media were not right with their concerns and accusations. As for so called accident in Cracow with the Dutch team, the police and UEFA investigations confirmed that Dutch black players were not racially abused during training session by the Cracow crowd. I’m sure BBC did not say a word about it. Did they?

I remember I had an argument with one of the posters who was sure the accident happened.

If I’m not mistaken, no one during this tournament in Poland or Ukraine was racially abused by the hosts. The only punished for racial abuses were Russians (not once)and Spaniards.

  13. The best pies I ever had came from a wee baker’s down in Whiteinch. Bought 16 of them, snaffled 4,took 12 dahn sahf and introduced a couple of friends to a Glasgow delicacy. An’ y’know what? They demanded more…

Anyway…tonight’s match SHOULD be a brammer!

    HH!

  14. Paul67 – With all due respect, I don’t believe proposals for the “worst idea floated in recent weeks” is a contest worthy of your intellect ;)

  15. If Celtic were going to instigate a League, i would rather it was a Euro League with the big clubs from the smaller countries rather than start a league with a bunch of nobodies. The Scottish league is finished. A League of this sort would be much more exciting both football wise & financially

  16. Shocking blog Paul, imo. Let Others divide and conquer.

If I were Celtic I would have opened a line of communication to very senior levels within UEFA, FIFA by now. The financial stakes for Celtic are too high to leave to the incompetents of Scottish Football and time is running out for a successful conclusion to this mess. Your proposal might be a goer if this was the case. We are the only real power in Scotland at the moment. As long as Taylor or Roxborugh don’t get a sniff of it and pass it back to the circus of hodge it and bodge it back here in Scotland.
