What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

    Keep some for me!

Mark down the last Friday in April for a rematch,or the first in May.

That gives me a few weeks to do some homework, might not be such an obvious dunce this time.

It also gives The Horseshoe time to restock………

  2. Trophybhoy,

I was being a little facetious – there have been discussions on parallels Irish nationalism and Scottish nationalism on here before, My point is that they are two totally different situations, and a position on one should not imply a position on the other.

There is no contradiction between wishing to see Ireland united but Scotland remain in the UK . Supporting a nationalist position in one setting does not demand its support in a very different context.

  3. Just heard Chuckles stated Sevco would be limiting sponsorship deals to One year due to the ‘uncertainty’ of their postion in Scottish football.

MSM obviously feel it is not worth comment.

  4. Jobo, if you click on the time part of the last post you read and then refresh it should then refresh with that post at the top of the page

  5. BOBBY,

I cannae wait. You are very well versed in politics, it was good to hear what you were saying but no offence intended, I’m really anti politics.

A genius meets a walloper and it was still an amazing day, I was that walloper.

I won’t be going into politics in our next meeting, hopefully by then, I will have shed another 2 stones so I can enjoy “Tennents” ;)) and all the Carbs that drink contains. :)

Typing on the phone so will try to keep it short and error free . Honestly i was not thinking of ireland at all . When i speak of unionists i speak of the uk. Mainland . But i am pleased to hear that you dont agree with all unions being for the greater good . I am scottish i want to choose who governs scotland. I hold socialist beliefs and think these will be better achieved under a seperate scotland. I am a labour party member but realise they are a joke of an opposition both in scotland and the uk. I believe we should sink or swim on our own and stop blaming london. We can only do this through independence. I love scotland and i love my wife i never asked to see my wifes bank balance before i married her , i will take the same position with my country. I love my children but do not own them. I will try to guide but accept they may choose to become independant one day infact i am teaching them to do just that.

  11. Over 25,000 RIFC shares have been bought in the last 24hrs which is quite remarkable seeing as prior to that there had been no ‘buys’ in the last 12 days.

Does somebody know something we don’t?

I hope you are taking Goji Berries/powder everyday now.

As I said, the effects of these things are not instantaneous but if you take them for 1 month, never mind 1 year, My testimony is the most powerful.

Camu Camu is very hard to source now in the UK, that gets me (you know me) very suspicious.

While you’re at it you might want to teach your weans to spell independent correctly.

What is it with nats that they repeatedly spell the word wrongly?

    Is it a Freudian thing?

  14. Thankfully, Scotland will never vote for Independence. I have a dread of nationalism in all it’s flavours.

C’mon Andy, make it a Burns Day to savour son.

  15. Trophybhoy,

I picked you up wrong – apologies.

I don’t see independence as a road to any sort of socialist utopia. As an internationalist I believe we should be working to bring countries together, not separate them. Work together rather than against each other. Bring different peoples closer rather than split them apart.

  16. Or as i said wrnie posting on a phone ao wull tri to kewp mistakws to min.

Smart arae. I assume you get the jist eveb tho the spelling is bad.

Time to make new history, make it a Murray day.

    OMFG

    The spectre of celebration.

  18. The Battered Bunnet on

Aces the first. Murray ahead by 2 sets to 1.

Got to hand it to Federer though. There is a marked increase in intesity on all the major moments in the game. The guy might be technically perfect, but he knows how to scrap as well.

  19. The Battered Bunnet on

Looks like Federer nipped out for a wee smoke break. Wonder if he’s a Davidoff man? Probably Dunhill mind you, given the sponsorship.

    Back on court. Fed serving.

  20. No problem gordon

I dont think it will lead to a socialist utopia either but it will be a step in the right direction , and the opposite of the path london is currently taking.

  21. I'm Neil Lennon (tamrabam) on

It appears that chuckie moonbeams is on the back pages again. He wants to make Ibrox bigger (are they still calling it Ibrox btw?) by filling in the remaining two corners and building on top of the club deck.

Personally I think its time for us Celts to be a bit more magnanimous. Yes, we should help them by offering not to fill in. not only the two corners but also the entire stadium (with concrete). But it sounds a wee toatie bit like a previous leader of the auld deid rangers, who claimed he was going to build a hotel and a casino (or maybe it was Kazzie)in the wealthy suburbs of Govan

Oh and just for fairness, there was a part in the same article that mentioned that the all new shiny sevconians will make a trading loss this year despite their 30 million quid turnover. Now this is where I started to wonder.(probably best to stand back then) 50,000 season tickets at £200 each is 10 million quid.

So either the new sevconians must have bought about a trillion blue nose pies at half time or that alleged 30 million quids worth of income includes the recent share issue? If the new sevconians lose money this year, when they just had a share issue, and their players wage bill has been slashed how the hell can they last through next year?

Looks like the only way they can make 30 million quid turnover next year, while playing the likes of the mighty Dumbarton etc, will be to have another share issue or sell either

150,000 season tickets at £200 each

100,000 season tickets at £300 each

50,000 season tickets at £600 each.

Oh now I can see why chucky wants the bigotdome to be bigger than the maracana, he must be targeting breaking even next year. He is worth every penny of the £750,000 salary that he takes.

Is it any wonder that Sally wants them to be fast tracked to somewhere.

  22. !!Bada Bing!!

Get Ivan in for a wee chat with our lads prior to the Juve game? ;))

Paul67 is so fn progressive, the moonhowlers are Celtic moonhowlers and give everything for the cause in a different style.

SOT is feeding back amazing information. 0-0 at home, the nightmare scenario is 0-0 over in Turin.

Penalties, ffs if it gets that far…….. I’ll still Believe we will win, can you believe that. ;)

  23. Richard Wilson,

    Great article mate.

That striker you identified (Philipp Hosiner) looks like a great prospect!!

Would love to see him in the hoops.
